  • Here is my flight review of my recent flight from London's Heathrow Terminal 5 to Ioannis Kapodistrias airport in Corfu. I flew with British Airways on an Airbus A321Neo aircraft in Economy class (woohoo).
    As a gold card holder with BA's executive club, I was able to use and review the First Wing at Terminal 5, and so I show the changes to the lounge experience enforced by current circumstances.

    Armed with your Avios guide, I have just booked BA LHR-CFU return in June for £1. I am enjoying it already!

    Does G status still keep a seat open as long as possible? Good to know as we are planning lots of euro breaks in econ for later this year 👍🏻

    • @MattsPlanet
      @MattsPlanet  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That's "Theoretical Seating" and yes, I believe it's still in force, although BA doesn't advertise it. The eco trick of booking a window and an aisle and hoping theoretical seating keeps the middle one free is the strategy I suggest....

    You would not be able to try the recline in BAs recaro seat because there’s none.

      @@MattsPlanet I know but what I’m saying is that none of the BA recaro seats recline at all. They are super uncomfortable cheaply made seats that if you have a flight longer than than 2 hours starts breaking your vertebrae slowly.

    Excellent report! I arrived at Terminal 5 only a few days later (14 September) and it was just as quiet.

      Looks like we'll be allowed back to airports in early May. Which feels a long, long way away

    My last flight before the pandemic returning the day before lockdown in the UK last March was with BA between Reykjavik and Iceland. It was strange with mask use increasing significantly and worn by many passengers although not mandatory. The return flight was the only one I have ever been on in the last 18 months where mask use was mixed and neither worn by zero passengers or 100% of passengers (most of the time).I remember feeling very anxious at the time in myself and partner being the only ones among a larger tour group without masks at the rear of the plane and not having access to purchase one either. I suspect the situation where mask use is mixed on flights will become common, I think many people will wear them on flights by choice when it is no longer mandatory for a while at least, although flights will certainly be the last environment in which the mandatory use will be removed.
    I think BA is very good at keeping and rewarding regular flyers with priority boarding, seat selection, lounge access, empty seats etc. For someone that doesn't fly BA regularly and with mainly low cost carriers it effectively means I've paying through the nose with no benefits at all when I do occasionally fly them, which only goes to drive me further to low cost carriers. For me, unless the schedule is better or destination only served by BA, I will avoid them at all costs.

      Thanks again Scott. I lived in Asia for a few years where mask use is quite common - an interesting perspective on different cultures that for years over there people have chosen to wear masks when they felt sick to protect others...
      The point on BA is a good one. Booking a LCC and adding seat selection, speedy boarding etc can still be cheaper than BA - indeed you can spend the saving on a cheeky sesh in a 'Spoons before boarding to simulate the lounge experience.
      Only time I was in Iceland I dislocated my kneecap, slipping on ice. The clue was in the name....

    Really enjoyed the video Matt and subbed - very professionally done I thought. I’ve just purchased a DJI Osmo Action which I used on a trip to Italy last week. Incidentally, I came back on another neo - G-NEOX and, without paying for it, the WiFi gets you flight data like speed, altitude etc and access to the BA app so you can browse flight deals etc (I must mention this in my next trip report). Also, you are entitled to a hot drink, you just have to ask for one as it’s not offered.
    Good luck with the channel - took me ages to get to 100 subs but I struggle with self-promotion tbh! I look forward to some more content soon 👍

      Thanks! I appreciate the kind words and I'm glad you enjoyed it. I picked the DJI over a Gopro and I'm very pleased with it - remarkable quality from such a small object. Before I stated doing this, I avoided wifi like the plague as being on a plane used to be just about the only place where I was genuinely out of contact - I need to get in the habit of investigating it for these reviews!

    So sad to see the BA lounge ordering app sent you the champagne you so detest, still you fought on valiantly.

    • @MattsPlanet

      I think the app sent me a second one too - I must have been experimenting whether the stuff got better on a second glass... It seems more socially acceptable to order a champers at 8am rather than a large g&t!

    Have you done the video about tier Point runs, and also the best site for getting the cheapest flights.

    • @MattsPlanet
      @MattsPlanet  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Gavin - Tier point run video is planned for recording next week and should be released towards the end of January. Not that we can go anywhere at the moment, but I guess we can still plan! That video will cover how I find cheap fares.
      When it comes to booking those cheap fares - I generally book directly with the airline as its much easier to deal with the airline directly if something goes wrong. Discounts you may find on published fares are generally small, and not worth the hassle if something goes wrong in my experience.

      Right now its ridiculous - flights to quarantined countries can be as little as £20 return right now... If you've got nothing to do for 14 days once you get back...

    Great video, is there a club lounge in Corfu ?

    • @MattsPlanet
      @MattsPlanet  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No - no lounge at all. I didn't do this, but if you go to the check in desk as a club passenger (or a status holder), then BA should give a voucher for use in the outlets post security. I believe a lounge will be built but that could take some time. Cheers
