  • I am not sponsored by nor am I being paid by Dirty Life for this Install & Review.
    This came a bit sooner than expected or budgeted. After getting my new Dirty Life Wheels installed and getting hands on the simulated beadlock rings I reached out to Dirty Life and they informed me that they are only cosmetic and not functional as a rash ring. So here I am with the install and review of the Forged Beadlock Rings!
    In this video I will cover a little more on the "Dual Tech" technology that Dirty Life designed into these wheels. Why I needed to upgrade to the Forged Beadlock ring and the benefits of them!

    Keeping the bead of the tire down in the drop center of the wheel makes things 100x easier. I like to start with a knee on the sidewall at 6 o clock and then start working at 12 o clock. There will be a tire iron sized gap between the bead seat and bead of the tire as you start working your way around, grab the bead there with the iron and Bob’s yer uncle.

      Thanks for checking out my video Ric! And yeah it gets easier with practice and I don’t recall if I videoed my first or last wheel in this video. 😅

    Did these come with new bolts? I've got the exact same tire and I'm going to install a locking ring but my bolts are starting to oxidized and look gross.

    • @VictorVectorJKU
      @VictorVectorJKU  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes they come with new bolts! The simulated beadlock ring uses short fasteners like 1/2” to 3/4” length fasteners. These can not be used for the beadlocks as they will not get proper thread engagement. You will need to use the new supplier hardware with the bead lock ring!

      @@VictorVectorJKU Could you tell the material type? Where they just zinc-coated like the stock fake ones. Because up here in the Rust Belt I would need something more rust resistant like a stainless steel.

    • @VictorVectorJKU
      @VictorVectorJKU  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes they were the same zinc coated fasteners just longer for the beadlocks. Make sure if you go stainless you get the necessary grade 5 or grade 8 bolts however! You don’t want to have a failure with an insufficiently rated bolt just to minimize corrosion. I would hate to see you or anyone have damage or get injured!

    It is your understanding that their simulated beadlock rings won't hold up to trail use? I was hoping to run an internal beadlock with wheels that have a sacrificial rock ring. Perhaps DL's ring manufacture could make a set that will withstand trail use? I am trying to get double-beadlocks for cheaper than standard outer beadlocks.

      Hey there JD, thanks for checking out my video! So the plastic did not seem extremely durable or capable of handling impacts. If the plastic ring breaks you could start to have the bolts grab on obstacles such as boulders or roots and cause damage to the threaded mounting holes for the bead lock ring.
      So for your intent of setting up a double bead lock I am curious what you are looking at for the internal ring to create the double bead lock? Typically with a double bead lock you need a wheel that separates at the center to accommodate this. The dirtylife wheels still have the traditional pneumatic styling so you could not use a conventional ring with this to make a double bead lock. I hope this information is helpful!

      @@VictorVectorJKU oh I'm under no illusion that a plastic ring would hold up. It would have to be steel or alum. Search for coyote enterprises for a bladder type internal beadlock. These can be run on any wheel but I'd like to not thrash my wheels the first trip out. I wheel pretty hard. So being able to replace the rings when they are thrashed while protecting the wheel itself would be ideal. But I need it to be cheaper than a standard beadlock setup.

    • @VictorVectorJKU
      @VictorVectorJKU  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ok I have heard of the bladder style offering, never heard anything on how they hold up though. And makes sense on the bead-lock ring to be used as a rash ring instead. I would just confirm the ability to run the bladder with the dirtylife wheels if there is anything that needs to be considered.
      I am curious, do you have issues currently with losing your inner bead on bead lock wheels currently? That is pretty uncommon issue unless you are running under 5 psi on rocks and such or possibly 0-2 psi and running in snow. You might find that a standard single (outer headlock) would suffice.

    • @JDMyers351

      @@VictorVectorJKU I have never lost a bead in the 20 years I have wheeled with my champion beadlocks, but they are 15's with 35's. I want to go to 37's on 17's. The issue is that a beadlock wheel is so expensive. So the option to turn any wheel into a beadlock is appealing, but then I'd like to keep them nice, hence the rash ring. I may not have my cake and eat it too in this situation.

    • @VictorVectorJKU
      @VictorVectorJKU  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      With that being the case, unless you see the need to run a double bead lock I would suggest the single. Also the Dirtylife wheels to replace the plastic ring with steel or aluminum will likely end up the same cost as a bead lock if not more. I would suggest finding something you like the appearance of and going that route. That’s my opinion though.

    Good video. Are your wheels the 4.5" wheel backspacing or 3.5" ?

    • @VictorVectorJKU
      @VictorVectorJKU  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for checking out my video Damian! I went with the 3.5” backspacing to reduce the rubbing on the frame and lower control arms I had with the 4.25” backspacing i had with my steel wheels.

    What did you do about balancing?

    • @VictorVectorJKU
      @VictorVectorJKU  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey there ENDVR offroad, thanks for checking out my video! I actually had the wheels mounted traditionally and balanced by discount tire. I then broke the outer bead and flipped the tire to the outside and installed the beadlock ring. I guess theoretically the rings could have thrown out the balance but I didn’t have any noticeable issues.

    • @endvradventures
      @endvradventures 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@VictorVectorJKU I have the same setup you had previously “beauty rings” and have wheeled all over Colorado and Moab 4 times and my rings look horrible and I’m at the point where it’s time to make the switch so was wondering if you had them rebalanced.

    • @VictorVectorJKU
      @VictorVectorJKU  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah ok I understand, I would think taking them in to check the balance prior to installing the rings would be a good idea! Many shops won’t touch a beadlock due to liability, I don’t think they will even air up your tire if it’s low. I only had my wheels maybe a month prior to installing my rings so I knew my balance was still good. I hope this helps!
