Greetings from Thailand. I love the beginning live performance and want to share the meaning of the dancing to non-Thai audience for more appreciate the performance.
Modern dancing and Thai traditional dancing are blend together to present stories from Ramayana, the Indian epics of a war between humans and demons.
The performance on the stage consists of 2 scenes separately. The 1st scene is about a human lover couple, Ram and Sida. Ram is the crown prince but doesn't want to rule the empire, so he moves to live in a forest with Sida. Unfortunately, the king of demons also needs Sida. The demon king asks his uncle to transform himself into a golden deer and attract Sida.
When Sida sees the golden deer, she really likes it and asks Ram to catch it.
Ram follows the deer into a deep forest, then the demon king grabs Sida and takes her to his demon island. This event leads to the war between humans and demons. The dancers on the stage are Ram, Sida and the golden deer.
The 2nd scene, the human army tries to build a road across the sea to the demon island. The demon king commands a princess of fish to destroy that road. She and all marine creatures can work this job effectively under the sea. So the human army
has to figure out why the road cannot be completed. Hanuman, the white monkey soldier, dives into the sea and sees the princess of fish. The princess tries to escape but the white monkey soldier can catch her. Although they both are enemies, they finally fall in love with each other. The dancers of this scene are Hanuman (white monkey soldier), princess of fish and many marine creatures.
Hope you guys enjoy the show.
