he was always one of my absolute go to's for years and years and years and some 40 years later i still feel this mans music. A true genius he was. He is such apart of me that whenever i drift into listening to blues music i may take in an RJ song or two, Howlin Wolf etc, but when i just let the music play song after song after song it's usually Mississippi Fred that is streaming. He embodies for me any way the very best of all of my favorite blues players. John Lee Hookers trance like feel, RJ's demonic energy, Mississippi Fred Hurts lyricism and long limbed melodies, and a bit of Elmo James stinging slide.
His eyes look sad when he plays...I can only imagine what his life must have been like as a black man from the south back then. As talented as he was, life still must have been hard.
Mississippi is a rough state even to this day .. my beautiful black husband is from there.. it's a poor state for sure .. roads are rough , low wages .. nice homes for the low , but if live there gotta do some home base job to find the income .. racism is still really bad there and very much talked about .. I'm just up state in Tn and it's different here .. but to be real life is hard no matter how you look at it .
I can't even imagine the depth of hardship in the deep south, but the impoverished struggles gave us the bare boned delta blues. I love it! "Hard times had a baby and called it the blues."
"..no more troubles...over yonder.. when I lay my burden down..." PRAISE be to God. Blessed be to the Lord. Whomever your Lord may be. .. love to everyone.🙏❤
How is this so perfect and beautiful? Some will try forever to harmonize with them selves and the world like this. But it won't happen, only Fred could play this Raunch!
He looks almost as if he's about to cry towards the end. Wouldn't surprise me if he actually was, as most of the older blues musicians suffered real hardship.
Yeah, he say's as much on the 'Don't play no rock'n'roll' album - Fred's great! Blind Willie Johnson had a nice thing going - all reels, like this one.
man, i'm glad this is back...there was another post same song, but it had a woman singing the back up..it seemed slower as well. classic. this is just as great tho. thanx!
Phil Noel Stop talking nonsense. This ain't about selling your soul it's about laying your shit at the cross and leaving it there. Incidentally because of Christ's forgiveness and mercy there is always a way back from what you've done.
Fred was what I love about deep blues, the kind with just a man and a guitar and what he can do with it. Everything else (drums, harmonica, bass, etc...) are just distractions, Fred proves that.
I don't see how that fact is especially upsetting because you could say that voice is an instrument too. definitely with songs you wouldn't know what words you could land on or what could come out of you. Could get away with saying things through singing that are far less easy to say, or to say in the way you would when singing. That coupled with the sound of singing is almost like a speaking in tongues kind of thing but in a clearer way.
Don't Feel Sorry for this Guy as He had a Talent that kept him out of the Cotton Fields, he was a Master of the Slide Guitar, many Black Bluesmen followed the same Route, it was an escape from the Hard Times on the Farm. Many from Both Races had to Endure the Hardships and Hard Life because Work was All they Knew!!!
You must know much of his history-he worked picking cotton and many other manual labor jobs most of his life. He only gained noterity enough to make some small amount money playing music later in life.
Another great blues man. Abused and denied in his life. "Yes you can play in here, but come in thru the back door, the one marked for " coloured" people." The land of the free! Land if racists.
Don’t care what anyone says, you can’t beat raw old blues, one happy old white boy listening to the best music of all.
Hey I'm in that same boat lol love this
Its the real music of humanity. It ain't always pretty. it ain't always sexy. It's just real. And we know this cuz real reconize real.
true heavy music
Make no mistakes, this is Gospel. This man took us to Church and he felt every word. Lord , Lord. RIP

He was respected more than a lot of people, because he had talent.

Imagination can not fathom what he must have endured and it’s what made the music to later become rock n roll

Holy god. This is another level.

He looks almost as if he's about to cry towards the end. Wouldn't surprise me if he actually was, as most of the older blues musicians suffered real hardship.
The Blues is not about playing to make you feel good, instead it's about making them feel bad just as much as you.
Make that thing talk and tell a story ❤❤❤❤❤❤😊

same tune as Will the Circle be Unbroken

Thus, you have the blues. Look up Howlin' Wolf / Shindig with Rolling Stones. He couldnt even play with his band....😡
