  • Despite the changeable weather, Barry is cracking on with the jobs with the aim of getting the Lynsey B back in the water by the beginning of April. This week he strips down the console to refurbish the covers. He also takes off the scuppers and the winch for the pot hauler.
Baz also unveils the number of tubes of Sikaflex he used in the construction of the Lynsey B.

I am glad we fish the fresh waters of the Great Lakes in Michigan, U.S.A. We have far less corrosion and maintenance issues. Although the deep winter freeze here means you have to been very careful about winterizing the engine a boat hull!

Thank you for your very informative comment.
We have friends in Canada who have the same trouble as yourselves with the cold.
In Scotland, we get all seasons in 1 day, but it's nothing compared to what you guys get.
Good luck with you fishing. Stay safe.
      All the best.😁

@@onemanandhisboat That is a right stout little ship you’ve acquired (and a bit pretty as well).
The rudder stops look as though they could catch a pot line. Can you pull the prop without removing the rudder (you may want a semi circle cut out in the rudder. My great grandfather ‘George Wilson and his bride Abigail Jones came to Canada from Scotland before settling in Michigan, U.S.A.
      Cheers….Gary!

    • @onemanandhisboat
      @onemanandhisboat  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

@highwatercircutrider the rudder stops, were taken off the outside of the boat when she arrived. They are now in beside the ram, as everything, it's very hefty, too💪😁👌🤣🤣🤣🤣
No, I can't take the prop of, without taking the rudder off, but with most little boats, we have to do that.
The closer the rudder is to the prop, you get better stearage, so cutting a hole in the rudder would do more harm than good, but thank you for your suggestion.
      All the very best.😉👍

I keep a little spray bottle of oxalic acid on my boats to squirt any rust when it becomes noticeably annoying. The crystals are cheap on ebay and you mix it with water. Spray, leave for 10 mins and it's gone like magic, sometimes takes 2x for rust I've left for too long. Seeing your cat catcher makes me want one for my 19' cygnus. Maybe a project for next winter.

      Hi Anthony.
Thank you so much for your comment and advice.
I'll try that😁👌sounds like the perfect solution to the problem. After all, prevention is far better than when it's too far gone😁👌
Just be careful on the cat catcher bud. It can add a tremendous amount of weight to the back of the boat.
The only reason I put 1 on board is somewhere to put the liferaft🙈😂😂😂 the MCA never think about space when it comes to wee boats, just as long as they abide by the rules.😡😡😡🙈🙈🙈🙄🙄🙄🙄
Good luck if you take the project on💪😁👌
All the best, bud, and thanks again for your top tip.😍😁👌

Morning Barry, Dave from broadstairs here. Having some more chemo for my leukaemia but should be out for the good weather in 2/3 weeks. What a great professional video, always enjoyable. You are very good in front of the camera, not a skill given to all. Maintaining a boat seems to be worse than maintains a house. People don’t realise the work involved do they? Looking forward to seeing you out on the water. Best wishes to you Jeff and the family. Dave

      Hi Dave.
I hope you're feeling okay with chemotherapy treatment 🤞🙈
And we certainly are sending all our best wishes and love for a speedy recovery.
Yeah, this is true about the cost of a boat and the upkeep.
I just wish these government bodies would understand, but as usual, they don't give a damn.🙄😡🙈
We can't wait to get back to sea ourselves. It's certainly been a long time coming💪
Unfortunately their is still LOTS to do, and time is ticking so fast at the moment 🙈😂😂😂😂
Hope you have a wonderful weekend, buddy.

      Hi Rick.
Thank you for your comment and suggestion.
I have designed the Lynsey B in the way the original designer ( Mr Gary Mitchell) intended these boats.
Basically, it's a BIG open boat, but with obviously a Baz interpretation of that open boat, to suit my needs.
I have had a vessel set up like this before, and it works really well, and with space limited, the last thing a wee boat needs is a big wind catching wheelhouse. Besides, I'd be too big to fit in one😂😂😂😂😂
Thanks for the countdown, I'm trying.💪💪💪💪🦞🦞🦀🦀🦀

Good work Barry. I also hate rust on my boat, I’ve had to replace “stainless” washers & nuts also. I Keep a magnet to check the grade is A4. If it magnetises in the slightest I won’t use it. Why didn’t you go for a gunnel roller instead of a block?

    • @onemanandhisboat
      @onemanandhisboat  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Bud.
As always, thank you for your comment and support. It means the world to us.😁👌
I actually tested every single bolt nut and washer before I fitted them, exactly like you described.
It's really confusing as every other nut and washer is fine on the boat, it's just where the pot hauler is 😲🤔
I'm just going to clean that area up and replace them.😁👌
I'm old skool 💪 plus we are were trying to save space on a small vessel....AND, rollers are no good when their are ball ups, and with the over fishing going on in my area, a ball up is certainly inevitable. 😁👌
I hope that answers your question 😁
      All the very best.😉👍

Hi Barry, just to say, after you have traced your boats name you need to pounce the letters. Pricked your traced letters, then use powdered chalk in a cloth to replicate your letters. Easy really. Oh and one stroke the letters with the paint, not bitty. Good luck fella.

the washers and nuts if st/steel will be 308 or 304 and will rust in salt or sugar so change them to 316L st/steel to solve this issue.

      Hi Marshall.
Thank you so much for your kind comment, I really appreciate your input.😍😁👌
You are so right!😁👌 but trust me bud, it's all supposed to be A4( 316L). Well, that's what I paid for!🙈 I even took the magnet to them before I fitted them🤷‍♂️ it's all very strange. 😜😲
Their are other washers and nuts throughout the boat bought at in the same batch, and they've not rusted.
It seems in that area near the pot hauler that this has happened and no where else. 🤷‍♂️🙈
I'll be cleaning the area and replacing those nuts and washers and keep an eye on this to see if it happens again( let's hope not🤞)
Hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Gady mate there is always something to be done on a boat , check this check that move things about to make it better or at least try . So far on my little tub i have had to raise the engine and try to get the motor to run in a straight line ,after getting some advice and looking on encyclopedia you tube i have had to adjust the trim tab on the gearbox of the engine all trial and error . Here we have two types of stainless 304 and 316 , 316 is the better but ive found the 314 is good enough (plus its cheaper) to see those nuts rusted something wrong there almost like there not even stainless after only 18 months , the timber will always need work doesnt matter what you finish it with oil, marine varnish the sea and sunlight will eventually get it . Just a question the landing at the back you removed what is that for creel storage ? Anyway tell geoff to stop playing with his toys and give you a hand , typical crew anytime they can skive off they will 😂take care captain .

      😂😂😂 hi Crisp buddy.😉👍
Loved that last bit of your comment about Jeff😂😂😂😁👌
Oh, you're so right about all the work that goes into keeping a vessel, and everyone has their own standards.
Some just use them as a tool, others it's their pride and joy, a triumph of working so hard and reeking the benefits of that work.
I'm glad to say that you and I are both a like. These boats, no matter the size, can NEVER be tools.😍😁👌
I hope you find that sweet spot for your engine on your tub. Sounds like you're getting closer with each little attempt 💪😁👌
The cat catcher, as we call them.
Is there for a little extra space for stowing empty boxes and, as you can see, somewhere to put that muckle, heavy liferaft!
These pen pushers have no idea that practically of their safety equipment on a small vessel, is actually a risk itself, BUT as long as we do what they say, and keep abiding by there ridiculous rules, they are happy.🙈🙄
Not that I'm complaining about having a very important piece of safety equipment aboard. It's just their way of demanding, no! It must be a 54kg 4 man liferaft😲😲😲🙄🙄🙄 aye, for 1 person, maybe 2🙈🙈🙈🙈
      Can't teach stupid. I'm afraid, though, buddy.😂😂😂😂😂
Right pal, good luck with the continuing saga of your outboard alignment, I look forward to the next edition 😍😁👌

Oxalic acid by chance / works well on rust stains, not so good on actual rust. You could also try any kitchen cleaner that has its base in citric fruits like lemon will also lift rust stains, and if given long enough surface rust on stainless steel, but that's really best done by soaking in a tub of water & citric acid.
Oxalic acid also so called 'wood bleach' doesn't smell nice, so wear a mask and gloves as it will burn you, but for all that its quick and easy.
    Good luck 🍻
