About the time I found this song, I had just had a daughter and bought a house for my new family. This line broke me down in tears: "oh the hare and lofty pheasant, are quite plain to be seen. Building homes for their young, round the cliffs of Dooneen". I love it.
Thoughts of my youth and all those towns, Kilrush, Kilkee, Doonbeg, Quilty, Miltown Malbay, Lahinch, Doolin, Lisdoonvarna etc ..on the west coast of Clare. Great old days.....football, singing, music and dancing ...Friends that are long gone but still edged in my memory as forever young..
Yes . I come from Miltown. I love these old songs. After all these years i still love these beautiful old songs. I have been out of Ireland for over fifty years. They Remain in your soul for ever.
I have this more then once when I hear these ballads. The Italians sing the most beautiful loves and the Irish sing the most beautiful ballads. Two great cultures of the world.
The first time I heard this song was at a Fleadh Cheoil in Kilrush sung by a great flute player from Kilmihil, West Clare, by the name of Paddy Breen. Paddy Reilly does a great job on it.
@@johnhendry6636 Lukes the man, but some songs suit others. I like Paddy on this, and I like the Tones or dubs on others, they’re all the dogs anyways!
One of the finest irish songs of all time , if you were brought up in ireland & leave ireland at a young age , because of tough times not because of want , and are in a foreign country , this song will kick your ass , love this song and there are lots of tears in my eyes while writing this , but i love my country of ireland , and i wish i never had to leave but i will come back one day ,
