Why would it fall on the house if you used these methods like professionals use the outcome is always the same when using wedges as long as the v notch is cut right then hammer wedges so the tree falls in direction you cut v notch in for it to fall away from house and away from those powerlines you'll be good both of you I been doing trees for 20 years and when I started I cut trees down inches away from houses with all the neighbors outside watching me I dropped trees right where I wanted them and to be funny I even set soda cans where tree will drop to crush the cans for the neighbors this was before TH-cam

That's the definition of something close to home feelings wise.. We had an old apple tree back at my parents place where me and my brothers used to go climb and play when we were kids. It really hurt when it had to come down a few years ago because of root rot. Tree held as many memories as it did

Trees are a great blessing. Sadly like everything in the cycle of life, it has its time. I do residential removals and there’s a lot of energy in the air whene a tree comes down. Some of the memories are revealed in carvings, light post hangers hammock screws, bird feeders, horizontal limbs with ropes, nails, and and worn down bark. 🌲 🌳

I know i am not Billy, but the reason is to make sure that the tree doesn't fall back on the saw. That way, you would be available to put a wedge in, and if it set back, then there is almost no way to put a wedge in there hope that makes sense

He made a comment about the weight. That first cut and wedge was probably an additional insurance that the tree would fall away from the building, just in case he found any unstable interior rot as he was making the usual face cut. Otherwise, a face cut could have released enough tension against the backweight to send the tree backwards into the building.

with a hard lean back, if you break the front plate with an undercut it goes back further, then when you go to put yer back cut in it instantly sits on yer saw and yer screwed . with back cut first there is all gains , yer never behind, great for small diameter trees
