  • I wanted to try something I had seen on the youtubes: carrying your fixed blade horizontally, in case one carries a fixed blade on occasion. Like I do.
    Heres the link to where I personally have seen in in a variant the first time: • Bushcraft & LB Custom ...
    ... not saying other might not have done so for ages, unbeknownst to me.

    been lashing my knife to my belt horizontally for ages, just like you said its the most comfortable way to carry a real knife without it getting int the way. i use a minimalist type belt buckle and the knife only replaces even less than what the bull-riders win at the rodeo so i feel no discomfort. thanks for the tutorial!

    Sometimes it is good to see that I am not the only one who throws out furtive attempts at projects that go wrong. Good video. Thanks...

    When you're talkin full sized, fixed blade knife, horizontal belt rigs/ configurations are the smartest way to go.

    How about more than a 1/8 second reveal of the finished product?

    thanks for showing all the mistakes as well, makes me feel better about mine :) I´m looking for a good design to make an leather sheath for the Karambit knife I made out of some old scissors. Think I´m going for the horizontal carry...

    I love this type sheath, and really appreciate you sharing mistakes. The captions were hard to read in the time they were up. I had to keep rewinding and pausing to keep up. Love the work though. Great job.

      Smü I was hoping to see how you put the belt loops. Horizontal carry is not common here in New Zealand... I have never seen a sheath made or carried like this

      @smu1129  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rick, I've made a few sheaths and holsters by now and I think I will revisit this project. You know, make a better one.
      And this carry method is not common over here in germany neither.

    Hello, Nice demonstration. What type of manual press are you using. I've only been working with leather for a few months now and find I am getting more and more interested in the antique tools that were used by artisans in the 18 and 19 century. Thanks for the look into your technique.

    You didn’t explain anything. Why did you even show the failed attempts if you weren’t going to show making the good one?

      Fair point, in retrospect. I thought explaining what I did wong would be sufficient.
      WIll do better next time.

    1. Großartig. Ich habs mal mit einem Fällkniven F1 in einer horizontalen Kydexscheide versucht und bin zu dem Ergebnis gekommen: Horizontale Trageweise hui, Kydex pfui. Soetwas hier würde mir auch gefallen, sehr elegant.
    2. Das bist doch der Smü, der sich auch mal auf ZS rumgetrieben hat, oder? Das Internet ist klein.

    • @smu1129
      @smu1129  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      ad 1) Danke dafür! Nachdem ich inzwischen eine knappe Haut für Lederzeug verbastelt habe, bin ich immer noch begeistert, ich würde es allerdings nicht als "elegant" betiteln, dazu ist das zu ungeschlachten. Aber "proof of concept" ist erfolgt.
      ad 2) Ja, das Web ist klein.

    • @gesamtszenario
      @gesamtszenario 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Smü :
      Mit "elegant" meinte ich auch viel mehr die Idee und das generelle Konzept ''vorne, horizontal, parallel zum Gürtel' ("Cross Draw", nennt das der Connoisseur wohl), nicht die Ausführung in allen nickeligen Details. Perfekte Lederarbeiten sind eh eine Wissenschaft für sich, da kann dir jeder Schustergeselle ein Liedchen zu pfeifen...

    Nice to see how you did it. In my case of course, should I try, I might remove my own appendix or start talking like Mickey Mouse - so I think I will ask someone that are good with hands to make one for me! thanks again

    There have been times when I have shown people a better way to do something. There have been more times where people have shown me a better way - You should have shown the correction you made. We can tell you are a craftsman, but if you are going to make videos that just tease, I personally will never watch another one from you. Not cool. Otherwise, good video.
