I absolutely love that we’re seeing a rise of those “unknown” brands. We are now in the beginning stages of a “renaissance”. A lot of these “big guys” are using outdated models from a business standpoint and the new guys are quite literally upending the industry. I might’ve just gotten my first Acronym item, I’m far more inclined to go to somewhere like Amuletware or something like that…

It’s definitely cool that you are highlighting low-key, underground brands. A lot of these creatives create higher quality and more unique pieces than some of the big names we know today, and every aspect of promotion counts.
I also think it’s important to look at clothes for their actually creative quality and not just buy them for the notoriety of the brand, which is exactly why underground brands can be great because without a name, they are forced to separate themselves with unique ideas.
A couple other ones you might be into are Retronyma, Badson, and Roytreur.
Would be cool if you could do a similar episode in which you cover even smaller brands with cool pieces.

Everyone wants to be on the inside of the esoteric thing that’s really cool because of it’s seemingly exclusive nature. Think Escape From Tarkov, these brands, underground music, media etc.
Then so many people show up to the party that it can get ruined, changed or tarnished. Look at what’s left of the “punk” style. Something to be aware of and kind of accept as the lifecycle of cool things

    • @ThisIsAntwon
      @ThisIsAntwon  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

This is very true - important with anything like this to think about why you like something. Is it just because it's 'underground' or is there something of genuine substance there? A lot of things like this exist in careful balance of creativity/independence which they want to hang onto whilst expanding their audience. Too much expansion or creative sacrifice will alienate the core fans and vision, but sticking too closely to that original concept could make it too hard to communicate to anyone except an extremely niche market.

A personal favorite is Oree, anything this brand makes is golden to me & I’m proud to say I own a couple of their pieces
For me the process of getting to know these brands was just looking around the people they interact with in social media. Up n coming brands love to re-share people’s stories wearing their garments & if you look around every now & then some really cool people with like minds pop up which I then follow & then they put me onto more brands

I love the huni hoodies, however, the fact they're 140 euros combined with the fact it's 52% polyester makes it not worth it to me. If i'm paying that much for a hoodie, I don't want a plastic bag. I want cotton, linen, hemp, etc.

Another great brand to keep an eye on is ROSE IN GOOD FAITH. They've been steadily growing by doing a lot of projects about sustainability, such as their Plastic Soul shoes that are a competitor to the Foam Runners. They've also started doing 80's classic throwback styles, such as bomber jackets, jeans using denim from the 80's itself, etc. I think their brand deserves its own video in and of itself.

Love that Huni got some of the spotlight on your channel!! I’ve been trying to cop a Huni hoodie in the OG or Black colorway but they’re so limited 😭 also, they’ve been around before yeezy gap! Imo those hoodies were inspired by Mona DIRECTLY.
Another brand that I deserves spotlight is broken planet market. When I first saw them, I wrote them off as a CPFM clone but after copping a hoodie, I’ve come to appreciate the superior quality compared to my CPFM pieces and the whole BPM team is doing a great job of carving out their own identity with their designs and fits

Antwon, first of all, thanks for all your videos. They really have gave me a new perspective on different fashion trends and brands during these last months. In my country (Peru) most of the techwear / tactical clothing is almost unkown, but there are still pretty interesting and independent local brands that have given me something pretty close to these concepts. And more importantly, it's about the feel, the quality and the level of attention that these small brands offer to new customers.
I'll name some of them (peruvian brands) that have given me an overall good experience (both service and product), since I've used their clothes for some of my live musical performances: Flavorjack Streetwear, Kamon Clothing, and Younger Wolf Clothing.
Hope some of them may be interesting to you. Cheers! :)

This is a difficult one as small brands generally aren't able to benefit from the economies of scale that massive companies do (making 50 of something is much more expensive per unit than 5000!). However generally I find the costs are lower than luxury or high-fashion brands - making them a more accessible route into interesting fashion VS buying (some) well-known or popular brands.

You should check out IGO! Insanely high quality leather and technical garments inspired by video games and sci-fi. A lot of really high end stuff but they have some pretty affordable tees they do for the culture!

Just wanted to add my 2 cents on vinyl. Personally I like the rest of the world use my phone to enjoy music.. etc, but some albums deserve a proper physical copy that has to be touched and 100% gives the fan the musical experience as the band intended. Something TH-cam or Spotify cannot. I've never thought of this like a cool kids award/badge of honor?

Dear Antwon, love your videos, could you do a gunpla video? You mentioned it a few times and showed it off a couple times, I myself know nothing about it and I would love to see a building + showcase in your style, even if it's off brand for the channel and probably won't get so many views, I think your audience would definitely enjoy the video, even if it turns out to be a once off.

Would much rather support these people than large brands but you have to be careful of the QC and what materials are used, where and how it’s made, etc. when it’s just someone outsourcing their designs to a factory, be weary
