When the inn's owner was asked if this was anything he could’ve ever prepared for, he laughed.

We are with Carter at the Big Lynn Lodge at Little Switzerland. Awesome seeing Queen City News here!!
I’ve stayed at the Alpine Inn several times. I’m so sorry this has happened. Glad to hear you are willing to rebuild. I will be one of the first to come stay with you when you reopen!
My grandfather lived between Boone and West Jefferson, North Carolina. I spent lots of time in all the towns along the Blue Ridge Parkway from Boone down to Ashville growing up. To see these images of North Carolina is just crushing my spirit. My heart aches for the people affected by the devastation wrought by Hurricane Helene.
I have many fond memories of taking trips to Little Switzerland during the summer when I was a kid. Have been there a handful of times as an adult as well with my kids. Was there 2 years ago. Hate to see the damage, but glad no lives were lost.
Blessings and a speedy recovery for this man and his business.
Business on a dead end with now no existing roads going in?🧐🤨🥸
Visiting little Switzerland is still on my bucket list. Good luck, see you soon.
It was very nice. Beautiful area.
Little Switzerland has always been one of my favorite NC towns. Hope you get to visit. You won't regret it. 🩵
Been there once always wanted to go back but never made the time…..my loss🥺
Let’s keep them in our thoughts as they face these tough times. Pray for NC! 🙏
There is no way to economically restore and stabilize that slope to rebuild in that location. I’m glad no one was hurt.
That was my take as well .
Telling Yanks “never” is a fool’s mistake 🗿
Watching from SWITZERLAND 🇨🇭....
Just here in July. Our house is down the road and we are lucky it was spared.😢
Thanks for covering this town. This is the first story I have seen about the mountain towns, probably because they are much more difficult to reach after the hurricane.
Asheville has been covered.
@@zacharywilliams2904 Yes, towns and cities in the mountains have been covered, but all of them were in the valleys where the damage was caused by rivers and streams flooding. This is the first video I have seen about a town damaged by landslides in the town.
@@ericfielding2540 What? Landslides are everywhere. 100s of miles of landslides. You're obviously not looking for it then. Theres coverage of everywhere.
Start scouring utube it's everywhere and not good
I lived down the Valley below Little Switzerland in the 80's; breaks my heart seeing all this destruction and hardship!
I stayed at Alpine Inn the weekend before Helene hit. Devastating yet surreal!
The current building location is too unstable, and I doubt they can rebuild on the same small lot they own, since most of that property is now down the hill. Hard to find a good lot to build on in the mountains.
I stayed there many years ago, I love that area. Sad to see so much damage to places that hold so many dear memories to me.
1:38 That front motorbike tire is installed backwards. The treads are supposed to look like a "V" from the front.
💔 Little Switzerland
I’ve stayed there. It’s as perfect as heaven. Glad to hear they will rebuild. God bless.
My daughter has a lil shop right next door to Books and Beans Store in Little Switzerland, NC... but she cannot make it there to check everything since the hurricane :(
We spent our honeymoon at the Alpine Inn. I was hoping it was spared being so high up 😭 This whole thing is just devastating.
I am from Wisconsin and I lived in Asheville and Marshall and I miss it and these people so much more grit than people in the big cities that why I will go back to Asheville some day
I was there last year this time, that place is high up in the mountains! Geez! A hurricane?!
Think it was rain a d flooding not wind😊
I love this place, very sad
I sure hope the bookstores survived! we were there the summer before last, camping along Buck Creek!
The comment about rebuilding was pretty quick. I can imagine that the building codes now and immediately in the future (to preclude the current failures), will make it financially impossible, or at least irrational, to rebuild there.
Why wouldn't they find a way help this man?! 😡
So he’s at the top top ? WOW
Here in Florida we know we're on our own during storms😢.
My BF lives not far from there, no news from him. We chatted almost daily.
I hope you hear soon.
I never see any recent migrant volunteers?Thats a large labor pool…Whats wrong with this picture?😒
So much for 911 during a real emergency! Been there many times!
What was the Ann's owner emergency . He want a ride to safety up.miles away or was the fire dept suppose to keep the hotel from.cradhong down the mountain
@@RobertBee-fs8hvtrue.Some real morons commenting here.
Amazing that sucker has not collapsed before. it looked rickety as hell. That look like a straight drop down. No thank you.
I can’t believe no one else who’s stayed there has pointed this out. Your comment is the first I’ve seen and I was getting ready to say something myself. My husband and I weren’t surprised at all when we found out that building had collapsed. We stayed there a year or two ago and I couldn’t believe how unstable it was. Walked down below to see if they had at least reinforced the structure and whatever they did looked shady af. That tiny town lets the owner get away with alot. It ONLY collapsed because it was very unstable to begin with.
The integrity of that structor was already compromised, My wife and I stayed there a few years ago and I even ask what was up with the uneven floor and was told it had issues, When we ate breakfast the next morning we both had concerns on weather the whole building was going to slide down the mountain. After that we decided to stay down the road at a much safer Inn, Big Lynn.
'No way a hurricane, force, with that much force and power could do that 3,200ft on a mountain'. LOL- Is the man a new comer to mountains? Especially The Sourthern 'Blew Ridge Mountains (BRM)'. Checking the geography out on a Topographic map I see the view he is looking out over at 1.32 is a clear-way. From there, south west all the way to the the Atlantic ocean coast there is nothing but open skys and air. Air of corse being a principle composite of a hurricane. Check out American geological surveys where they think that the BRM range used to be higher than the Europian Alps. So Granite peaks towering to some 16,000ft. All now reduced by wind, rain weathering errosion to less than a third their original height many many mileniums ago. I remember some decades ago in the early eighties moving to a new home on a valley side leading up to the ridge. It was only about 400ft ASL and really looked sceanic and nothing at all to be concerned about except the walk to the shops. That was before the 120mphs winter winds came which blew day after day, night and day. I used to drive up to a viewing lay-by parking to watch the long distant views. But had to move my car from there as things felt as if the wind may pick the car up and flip it over the east side. My guess is it started me looking at the area and trying to understand why. It was then I saw that the ridge I was on was the first ridge from the west, here in England. So 20 miles west was a large open water river and opening to the sea and further west was the Atlantic Ocean. So whilst I saw land all around. The map showed a desending gradient to the coast and nothing to prevent the wind coming in from 3,000 miles west.
So in Mountains beware of ridges, cols and saddles. Some parts of them can really catch the wind.
I am glad to hear him speak about some major factors..
Water, wind, alone, did NOT do the damage we are seeing in these rural areas .
Weather weapons were used under the cover of clouds and rain....
And time will prove me correct.
Time not needed, we know you’re correct right now.
We are in central FL and were talking during the storm that this was a very weird storm weather weapons definitely
@@thebabaa5001 Yeah, Sleeper Joe, who is so mentally challenged somehow created this storm to disrupt the November election. Gadz, that guy is so devious he has you all fooled. What a mastermind. Try using your head for something other than a place to wear your hat.

What did he expect calling 911 would do for him. Perhaps the police could write a report for him. Or help him with his insurance claim. Are you in imminent danger? No but my hotel has fallen down the hillside. OK, thanks for calling, I need to take calls from people who are in imminent danger. It's a terrible disaster, but he didn't actually need help at that time. Many people did and for many it came too late. At least people and government are getting in and doing what they can now. There's a lot of BS about the military not being there. People on the ground say they are there, but sometimes the equipment they have just can't get in where it's needed. You can't land a CH-47 in someone's yard.
Exactly
Thank that there are many with common sense. Time to get rid of agendas and whining. Do what you can where you can.😱❤❤❤
Ehat happened to the little goat?
So..now some Officials are “tying the hands..so to speak”..of those trying to help..which is sooo wrong. Thankful ..that’s not the case in all Hurricane devastated Areas ..where people are helping save Lives, cleaning up and are Thanked and appreciated! Prayers for all affected ..including my Georgia Area!!! 🙏🏼
You might want to actually fact check that Nationally spread lie verses North Carolina Facts.
Shut up and go away trumper! Y'all are all the same!
@imonkeylover
I've seen those same videos from people on the ground in the area.
I don't get why the media isn't all over this tragic situation.
We can only hope that more Americans get this information & start pushing back by posting on social media, calling their representatives, & making some noise.
I hope more people will decide to be ungovernable & help no matter who tells you not to.
I saw a video of someone who listened to "authority" & turned back when told they would be arrested. That person says they wish they could do things over & they would not listen.
The authorities turning away help if its not "sanctioned" are literally causing people to die.
The federal help isn't coming to save anyone, it seems, only to collect your bodies.
I saw an X post from a rescuer in an earlier hurricane & he explained what is going on.
The feds will only use their "preferred vendors" (for bringing in food, water, search & rescue etc), so they will reject all other supplies & rescuers, which is mind-blowingly stupid in this awful situation.
@AprilsJessesGirl keep your head up Trump's and FUX NEWS AZZ , know nothing echo chamber, 🤡.
So tired of people like you.
This is the area where armed men were stopping aid workers and citizens asking what they are doing?? A person that they tried to stop realized they were not legit and ran through their roadblock..
Okay, let’s say you will rebuild .. WHERE ? Your land no longer exist. It’s part of the a valley somewhere. There’s no road through your area, you’re on a dead end street now, because the land the street was on is GONE !
You’re a tourist destination, ONLY accessible by Mule.
It’s almost laughable if it wasn’t so sad. I was just in Boone and Blowing Rock 3 weeks ago now, hard to imagine this damage.
Screw TH-cam
Why what's your beef
Censoring comments probably
Keep in mind the ground was already saturated by rain from a previously stalled out front. When the storm came it got blocked in and the deluge began. Mother Nature at her worst.

You need to stop blaming officials. People were told to evacuate or they would be on their own. If they chose to stay its on them they are alive, others arent as lycky
Why would fema pay for that and not a family's home. Good luck sir.
What's truly scary is those arm tattoos.

What a Beautiful area to live in. So tragic what happened to all these places. We are living in the time Jesus prophesied about where we would see earthquakes, etc in one place after another. Mathew chapter 24. Luke 21:28 “But as these things occur, stand up straight and lift up your heads, because your deliverance is near.” Soon the fulfillment will take place and Jehovah Gods Kingdom will over the earth & Heaven as Jesus told us to pray for in Mathew 6:9-10
Didn't his disciples ask him when those things would happen and Iesus replied with in their life times. He also told them they would all be exercuted for his names sake And all but Patmos John were exercuted. 24:34 'Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, till all these things be accomplished'.
Matthew 10:34
34 'Do not think that I came to send peace upon earth: I came not to send peace, but the sword.
35 For I came to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
36 And a man's enemies shall be they of his own household.
37 He that loveth father or mother more than me, is not worthy of me; and he that loveth son or daughter more than me, is not worthy of me'.
@@MikeGreenwood51 , The apostles thought the things Jesus mentioned would happen in their lifetime but Jesus was talking about the End of the System of Things of which we are living in.

Our God does not put his wrath on his children. Which are all who believe and are saved. He is a loving God but a just God. Why would he kill babies and children? Be wise and pray for wisdom. He will not prosper a nation or bless it, but no way would he do this because of what you say to innocent God-fearing People. God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believed in Him shall have ever lasting life. God so loved. Peace!
Quit preaching say a silent prayer
So now everybody on the mountain is a Meteorologist? hahahaha There is no way a Hurricane with that force winds could do that on the mountaintop 3.200 above sea level and cause that building to collapse? Oh my Sweet Summer child, clearly you know little about the powerful force that is a hurricane and the amount of destruction they leave behind... it doesn't matter how high or how low you are. In fact, the higher you are the closer you are to the storm.A downgraded tropical storm could take a building down that high up. Given that place was built before Mt.Rushmore was built it stands to reason as to how easy it would have been for a hurricane to bring it down. Just because it never happened before in your lifetime doesn't mean it's impossible.
Mountains eventually collapse into the sea.
Yes even sooner with cloud seeding
Even sooner with demons cloud seeding
@@thehomerworkone3000let me guess...you support Trump.😅😅
Blocking roads and trade is a sign of the end of the world as Muhammad peace be upon him, 1440 years ago.
Well Mad madhamad may know something about blocking trade as after he married Khdisha his first wife who was a rich camel trades person and from the time of marrige Mad madmahmad lived off her wealth earning nothing till he turned to desert bandatory, rape and theft. By the time he had to flee from his Qureshi home as they planned to kill him, he and his once rich wife fled with so little they had to eat scraps. As turning to desert bandatory is a form of blocking trade or legitamate bussiness and so is the end of that world of legitamate business.
Yeah, I’m not so sure the State of NC is going to let him rebuild. Too unstable. Risk versus reward.
The gov will be happy to buy the land, maybe even China. Then, the residents recoup some of their losses and the gov gets to mine. Win.. win….(the last two words were said with extreme sarcasm).
There’s no way to rebuild.
They can rebuild in another location in Little Switzerland.
Maybe they should learn about erosion
Looks like there was mostly dirt under the Inn.....
