    I haven't watched for a while, but coming back reminded me why I love this channel so much. It is crazy to see you at almost 72k subs! I remember watching when you had about 5k subscribers and my first aquascape was inspired by your 10 and 20L nano tanks - it was a bit of a mix between those scapes.
    Keep up the great work Mark, and you can expect to see me watching more from now on haha

    Kind of related to your tip about floating plants - trying to incorporate emergent plant growth where possible can be REALLY effective (although not possible with all aquascapes obviously). I've been experimenting with using pothos in a few low tech tanks and it has helped to severely limit algae growth in them.

    • @PaulZyCZ
      @PaulZyCZ 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Pothos, Peace Lily, Monstera... or whatever aquarium plants which tend to grow out of the water (Anubis, Echinodorus, Hygrophila).
      I've got pothos on most tanks, because it can grow out of a covered tank. Anubis and Peace Lily grow wild in my paludarium. Pothos there grows in a funny way, because of the humidity: Almost no leaves, but all the roots growing into substrate and water.

    • @IndoorEcosystem
      @IndoorEcosystem 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This works exceptionally well!
      I currently have a small pothos, 2 ficus, asparagus fern, peace lilly and a stinging nettle in my 20gal long and it's keeping the water perfect 0 everything. The only issue I'm dealing with is a small amount of hair algae but I doubled my cleanup crew to take care of it. So far so good.

    I have my tank in the living room, with lots of secondary light from the outside. Without heating, the water started reaching 28°C and the algae seemed to get out of hand.. I made screen of cardboard that covers the two sides facing the windows, and reduced lighting by 50% (to ca 900 lm). Still dosing MasterLine Golden and doing DIY CO₂. In a week, all algae was gone and the temperature in now just above 25°C. I've had it up for five weeks. My Ludwigia palustris ”Super Red” and Alternanthera reineckii "Mini" stayed red! I think I'll keep the screen there and just remove it in the evenings, until the weather starts cooling down. Great success!

    Perfect timing, as I'm currently having algae issues in my dutch style. For anyone that has anyone, what light intensity percentage do you run your Chihiros WRGB2 in your high techs at? I'm currently at 80% for 8 hours and worry its too much and the cause of my brown filamentous algae. Thank you for the video Mark! Just a quick question: I plan to do a rescape on my 70L tank very soon. I don't plant to change the substrate or the hardscape, I'll probably just move it a bit gently towards the back and maybe add a little bit of decorative sand. I just want to replant the plants, since they have grown a lot and have started affecting the health of the other plants so I need to reorganize everything. Do I need to catch the fish in such a case?

    Every LED light should be dimmable, it's about voltage. It could be lowering voltage right on the power source, but that's limited. I'd recommend getting a dimmer for the voltage lights run on and a reduction if required. Most lights have either 5 V, 12 V or 24 V. Some of dimmers come with WiFi/Bluetooth connection and a phone app. They are sold for LED strips or other home appliances, but compatible with dedicated aquarium lights (Aquatlantis, Chihiros...).

  • @Myndi78
    @Myndi78 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I started with 60% for 8 hours (2h ramp incl) with my new Chihiros. It BURNED my plants to where I had to clear out half of the aquarium and buy new plants, Ive never seen that happen before and it happened in a day. I thought algea would be the issue I would run into, but it definitly was much worse than that 😣 It is running on 12% now and the plants are doing better, but I plan to sell the Chihiros and get a light that isnt powered by the sun. I can have light on for more hours then and it looks better since I dont have to dim it so much.

    I've been struggling a lot with Staghorn algae (black, gray filament on the leaf edges)... I think it was caused by a faulty bubble counter which led my CO2 to become erratic for a couple of weeks. But I already fixed that and it's been 3 weeks and it just does not go away, once it is in, it is in. I cut back much much of the affected areas, manually removed what I could, spot treated (too many spots), treated the whole tank, reduced light (within reason) and it is still there, not horrible as before but affecting a little bit every single plants... Just making each plant uglier than what should be. I am considering nukeing the whole thing with the one-Two Punch method... Have you read about it?? Thanks!
