He died 2024. And his important friend, Frank Stella died 2024, too.😢 They shared a studio when they began their careers. Their early works may need to be re-examined in terms of collaborative exploration. It is an important epoch in art history, the birth of minimal art. Just as Georges Braque and Picasso were engaged in a joint exploration of cubism.
I don't know if he killed her or not. This is what Wikipedia says about it: "Andre was charged with second degree murder. He elected to be tried before a judge with no jury. In 1988 Andre was acquitted of all charges related to Mendieta's death.” (Wikipedia, 20 May 2020, at 00:36 (UTC))
she goes off the trails on the subject of the "encounter" with industrial prefabricated unites and the factory "worker." Andre's Minimalism defies verbal explanation, so she feels obligated to fluff it up with some proletariat angling.
Perhaps they should be seen in urban spaces to really complete the picture. Then they could be abused and stolen. Now that would be a context. Note how fabulous they look in such an aesthetically perfect environment. A room of carefully placed junk from a Dollar Store would be great to look at here. It could be placed by art curators familiar with Carl's aesthetic. Thus no need for an artist at all. Really minimal.
Nah he was tried for it and was acquitted because of reasonable doubt. meaning that its doubtful that he did. People are just being reactionary because its en vogue to be reactionary
The transcript from the police investigation is available if you research it. You will see that there were way too many unanswered questions about that fateful night.
@@Millylerks Nah, he killed her. Scratched on his body and her inability to even place her self in a position to jump out that window, coupled with her fear of heights. He did it.
This is a great example of people buying into a brand(person), and not seeing it for what it truly is... I hate to be the villain in all of this but it's just simply the way it is. Art is very subjective to the individual but when you take a plain tile floor and say that some famous artist bought the prefabbed material and simply set it on the floor, does that truly make it art? In my opinion of course not, that's ridiculous to even consider. It's a tile floor that looks like a tile floor, bought from a tile manufacture. Where is the art or sculpture or creative thinking? You are literally building a tile floor, or buying a wooden block and placing it on the floor, or a round ball.... I understand everyone is going to voice their opinion on that, but where do you draw the line on art vs someone manipulating an audience that puts trust in you and will believe and listen to what you do and say. Cmon now?
What if the artist became famous with this tile on the floor, then is it buying into a brand? The bran of this artist is defined by tiles on the floor as funny as it sounds. I completely understand your frustration but i think that what artists do is manipulate your perception and since there is no actual definition of art i think that what is art is subjective to what you believe art to be. This to me means that if i perceive tiles on the floor to be art then they are... to me. To you they are not and that is fine. As you said it is subjective to the individual
@@yanagoncheva4416 Fair enough. I just think art should be created by the artist, not bought and placed on a display for it's intended use, in it's exact same form, only to be reclaimed by an artist for it to now be considered his "art". Okay just re-watched some of the vid. Had to revisit it b/c it's been a year lol. This is more about the artist selling people the story behind why the artist chose a particular item to be placed in a particular spot or corner in a room. It's more about a story rather than the item itself. Basically the story is the art, not the piece itself. The item/art itself was already created by someone else. His "art" is more about the story he is trying to portray after placing the item in a certain way on the floor. He's a "story artist" if you want to call it that lol. His goal is to get people to think and to use their own imaginations, that's why he is so heavily focused on being simplistic. It makes the viewer focus heavily on the storyline rather than a simplistic wood block that was created by someone else. Him fabricating his own items would ultimately take away from what he is trying to achieve. You are forced to use your imagination no matter what, sense he didn't actually create the items. Whatever that form of art would be called, not sure but I'll just call it "story art".
Because it makes you think? makes you question what is culture and what is art? if you ever need an entry point into any artwork think about what it is and why it is.

Where is Ana Mendieta?
Wah, apart from Carl's genius, isn't this curator/speaker so clear and equipped with good content? Love this
Beautiful show, the presenter is amazing , her talk is a concise highly intelligent review of his work , focuses on the multiple meaning of his work.
she really is excellent
She is awesome and he doesn’t deserve her intelligence.
