Used to work out of W.Sac for FedEx and would find myself all over the area including Grass Valley! In fact I think I used to use that same 440 machine before I moved to Japan. Now I stand in my apartment's parking lot doing the same thing as you guys in the video; waving an arrow antenna around looking for the next satellite pass. 73, N6ELF/JE6CLO
My buddy and I almost jumped out of our chairs when the PDA got fumbled.Nice way to spend a weekend morning.Lots of laughs. Thanks Randy ,and 73's..Sneakerset
Man I wish I was hangin out with you guys, retired and playing radio. I use a FT-847 w/ a pair of eggbeaters for the fm sats. I was stationed U.S.A.F. at Mather so I know right where you guys are . Great video. Keep em commin. best 73's AL
I liked the forward shot of the road on the drive in. Nice to watch the scenery. Also that jackhammer fellow was quite a persistant fellow at 8 in the morning. :)
Well line of sight. The satellite is about 500 miles up. Not bad for 5 watts and a few db of gain. If you were on a tall enough tower, you could do the same between a couple radios on earth! Randy
I like it when Paul looks up as if he's going to see the sat. Natural insticint. We all do it. I use Orbitron for tracking sats. The best out there. freestanding. No need for internet(except kep updates). Tracks up to 4000? sats. Anyhow lots. Tell the guys about it Randy.
Thanks, I really try and have good audio on my videos. Audio really makes a big difference. There are so many videos with no sound or no narration, so that you have no idea what is going on. Kind of like silent movies! Keep watching. Randy
JD0RSJ again Randy! I went to the Titanic special event, W0S on 4/14/2012, in Branson, MO. One of the guys I've become friends with in the local club does a lot of satellite contacts with his 2 meter HT. I watched him try to work a few contacts, but not much happened. Then latter that night he got a weak signal that came in. Through the satellite he was working a boat in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean! Talk about amazing! I'd love to try that myself!
I wonder, will there be any future announcements of moon bounces? I am now stationed in Japan so I should at least be able to pick up something. Right now I'm just running off of a VX-6r until the ICOM mobile rig arrives (With the rest of my equipment) keep up the good work on uploading and documenting your work. I find it enjoyable to watch.
This is my favorite Video, I never get tired of watching. You have a great group of friends, your video make it seem like we came along that day, Thanks John/KD5VKT
hi there , watched your demonstration on finding satellites with the radios and it's great to see people having fun with amateur stuff , but feel that when you actually are trying to find the signal from the satellites , i think when you waving the yagi a bit too fast for the radio to pick it up ; if you just stayed in one spot and slightly moved around , you should get something . 73's from zl .
Unfortunately, very seldom. The trees have grown below my big satellite antennas which prevents me from rotating them up. Looks like some chainsaw work is in order. Randy
Looks like youve got some great friends there Randy, good video i really enjoyed it plenty of laughs this side. Take care and I hope to make QSO one day soon. 73 Simon
Just a heads up...I tried to DL The Orbitron program from that stoff.pl site...the DL carried some kind of vicious installer program...it loaded all kinds of weird programs into my computer...I dunno if it was an isolated event...not sure. Be careful...I just got the last one uninstalled. Is there somewhere else that has such a program? KD0UDI
Yes you can be like a one arm paper hanger. I haven't fooled with satellites in couple of years. So, we gave it a try. Yes when you start playing around with antennas, the neighbors start keeping a close eye on you. Randy

They are Larsen Glass mount antennas. Randy
Hi Hi......all that crazy work in the parking lot, and no SAT acquisition. Happens to the best of us Randy!
HI, it is sold by Arrowantennas. Randy

The main problem was that his satellite tracking was set to a location 2,500 miles away from where we were! So, nothing to be heard at all! Randy
Great video! Very well produced! I hope we get to see some more of the Flower Garden club in the future!

I first saw this video in 2009 and I am amazed how the time flew so fast. Still one of my fav videos on TH-cam!

I wonder who made the noise at 7:41!!!
Btw, over horizon phased array PAVE PAWS facility up in Sagamore, MA, is under fire for potential links to cancer clusters in that area.

I am curious about your 44 element beam I bet you could get some could repeaters.
I just like the idea of having fun with your friend hams!
Edward Gómez We try
I added a link to N1ASA's DOWN TO EARTH paper which explains the correct method to operate the satellites. Look in the notes section.

You can do that with a handheld? Does that mean handheld are capable of long distances?
Was about to call Murphy a PUTZ until Randy answered the call!
