Backman is by far one of my favorite writers, but his writing always holds a trend: the first 120 pages are slow. In every book. But my God when he gets going, he GETS. GOING. I know that I love him and still within 80 pages of every book I consider DNFing. Backman lovers understand you

Backman's writing in anxious people is very similar to A man called Ove but I still don't want you to give up on him . He is an amazing author. I suggest you listen to A man called Ove on audio, it's available on Scribd and it's narrated by J.K Simmons who did a phenomenal job he brought me to tears so many times. If you still want to continue reading Backman I also suggest Beartown.

About Fredrik Backman: I feel like most of his books have this vibe of "here I am telling you a sad, deeply emotional story, but writing it in a funny way so you will laugh and cry while reading it". If you want to read a Backman's book that has NOT this vibe, try his book Beartown. This one is not sad-funny. It's just sad. lol It's one of the BEST books I've ever read, but it destroyed me. Definitely recommend it (the characters and the plot are really good).

I love how Noelle is always so happy but also at the edge of crazy in every video. We love to see it! 💕😁

I also DNF'ed Anxious People, but I loved A Man Called Ove! The old man was like a mix of the character from Gran Torino and the character from Up. The audiobook was good too!

omg finally someone who didn't like anxious people!!! i don't understand the hype around it, I feel like his books are just thinly veiled self help books which I didn't ask for

Wide Sargasso Sea is great! It's really interesting to read alongside Jane Eyre as well. Read both in a class about the Brontës last year!

My boss loves what he calls Dad jokes. Not only do I love your videos and vibe, but passing these jokes along is going to get me a promotion. Love it!

Jasper Fforde is brilliant! Can’t wait to see what you think of the Thursday Next series (although I recommend starting with the first book The Eyre Affair, which I think you’d also appreciate as a big fan of Jane Eyre). It’s one of my favourite series, so quirky and funny! Enjoy 😀

When I was an undergrad, I took a class called 18th Century Comic Constructions and we didn't read Pamela but we DID read Joseph Andrews which was a sort of parody of Pamela so I learned enough to know I probably wouldn't like it (but I have no other memory from that class b/c I broke my arm on the ice and spent that semester high off painkillers). However!! Anna and the French Kiss is cute and I just got the special edition, Josh and Hazel is one of my favorite Christina Lauren books, Tools of Engagement is the third in a series but it's the best book by a goddamn mile so don't waste time on the first two.

I never knew about the Don Quixote connection for Wide Sargasso Sea! I only knew it as the postcolonial Jane Eyre rewriting and I thought it was so fascinating!!!

Wide Sargasso Sea is kind of a fanfiction about Jane Eyre, actually. It imagines the story of Bertha, Mr Rochester's wife who he decides is insane and locks in his attic. I haven't read it, but it's high up on my TBR and from what I've heard, it's really good!

I was the exact same for Anxious People - super turned off by the writing style. I pushed through and finally started to enjoy it about 100-150 pages in. If you ever feel so inclined I do encourage you to try again!
