Utah fan here. Devastated, but Utah didn’t lose because of the holding call, they lost due to extremely poor offense and going scoreless in the second half. I think Utah’s defense played amazing and gave BYU fits all night, but the cougars came out with clutch plays after having not really played all that well and got that lifeline. Credit to them for capitalizing on it. It’s good to have the rivalry back.

BYU fan here. That was a wild game. Thanks to Utah for some impressive competition. At halftime I was devastated that Utah was apparently having their best game of the year against us. Crowd was amazing, too, a difference maker for Utah so well done to their fans. Rose looked really good and seemed like the best QB of the season for Utah. Refs made a couple bad calls that went both ways. That holding call at the end saved BYU. It wasn't an unfair call, but it came a such a critical time I can totally understand Utah fans being upset. I'm going to have to stay up another hour for the adrenaline to wear off. Good game.

The game was rigged. At 5:34 you see number 8 throw the ball directly to a BYU defender with no recievers within 10 yards, but not before missing a wide open receiver.
To anyone who thinks the refs tipped it in BYU’s favor: 1. The replay showing the hold on 4th & 10 was about the most clear and obvious hold I’ve ever witnessed - but should it have just been a no-call since it was so far away from the ball? Absolutely NOT because that hold completely obstructed a key receiver from getting open on a game-defining play. 2. The refs called TONS of stuff against BYU the entire game. 3. The face mask call on BYU right before the half was a HUGE incorrect call in favor of Utah - it looked like a face mask at full speed, but the slowed down replay showed extremely clear angles of Glasker not touching the helmet even a little bit. That call was a 25 yard difference for Utah that easily could have made the drive not result in a TD. Lucky Utes. 4. BYU should have gotten the chance to kick a field goal before the half, but the refs called the 10-second run-off ending the half. On the review though, it showed the offsides flag being thrown with the clock at 12 seconds, which means BYU should have had the chance to kick with 2 seconds left. BYU played sloppy and coaches made a ton of mistakes - but the refs made some critical errors that could have cost BYU the game.

I’m so proud of this team. We committed a litany of mistakes that had us in terrible positions throughout the majority of the game, but to beat Utah in front of their biggest crowd attendance in the history of their venue to continue an undefeated season is an indescribable feeling. Go Cougs!
Oregon Duck fan here. Utah fans complain more than every other fan base I've ever seen. Your team could have won several other ways, but you complain about a penalty where your corner was holding the receiver which help create a sack. Enjoy the L!

Good sport! Am BYU alum and cheered for Utah when they were undefeated during that 2008/9 season. They beat Alabama, but we're only ranked number 5 at that amazing season closer because of the screwy standings system. Ya, cheer for any local Utah team when they have the good fortune of remaining undefeated all season, no matter the stripe!

People saying BYU made a lot of mistakes. While it’s clear they did not play their best, I think this is ACTUALLY reflective of coach Whitingham. He absolutely annihilated the O with all the defensive schemes. It was amazing to watch. This BYU O, normally who can drive at will, got absolutely pummeled by the UTE defense. They certainly had to dig deep to pull it off, and yes there were penalties that influenced the game, but to those new to this rivalry, that is just how it goes. Welcome to BYU vs Utah, perhaps the most complex rivalry in all of college football.

We should. Our clock management has been horrific for years. It's always been because of our OC. Ever since our very first game with him on the staff 6 frickin' years ago, we've had to burn 1 (or MORE) timeouts to avoid a delay of game penalty. I have no clue why or how in the world it somehow has not been fixed yet, but it takes FOREVER for the play call to get to the offense. More insane than that itself is the fact that it still happens at least once every game

The officiating was poor. However, it was poor both ways. Phantom facemask call against byu. Roughing the passer when BYU defender gave Ute QB a slight love tap. Utah called for a late hit on BYU QB when the defender was pulling up. The head of that officiating crew came with Utah from the PAC12. The Cougars won that game. They played a full 60 minutes (and many of those minutes were played poorly.) Utah defense quit after the 4th quarter defensive holding call.

What's the most baffling part of their pride is the fact that that they actually haven't done much as a program. BYU was amazing in that last drive. The game was hard fought. Both teams played their hearts out.
The game was rigged. At 5:34 you see number 8 throw the ball directly to a BYU defender with no recievers within 10 yards, but not before missing a wide open receiver.
To anyone who thinks the refs tipped it in BYU’s favor:
1. The replay showing the hold on 4th & 10 was about the most clear and obvious hold I’ve ever witnessed - but should it have just been a no-call since it was so far away from the ball? Absolutely NOT because that hold completely obstructed a key receiver from getting open on a game-defining play.
2. The refs called TONS of stuff against BYU the entire game.
3. The face mask call on BYU right before the half was a HUGE incorrect call in favor of Utah - it looked like a face mask at full speed, but the slowed down replay showed extremely clear angles of Glasker not touching the helmet even a little bit. That call was a 25 yard difference for Utah that easily could have made the drive not result in a TD. Lucky Utes.
4. BYU should have gotten the chance to kick a field goal before the half, but the refs called the 10-second run-off ending the half. On the review though, it showed the offsides flag being thrown with the clock at 12 seconds, which means BYU should have had the chance to kick with 2 seconds left.
BYU played sloppy and coaches made a ton of mistakes - but the refs made some critical errors that could have cost BYU the game.

I’m so proud of this team. We committed a litany of mistakes that had us in terrible positions throughout the majority of the game, but to beat Utah in front of their biggest crowd attendance in the history of their venue to continue an undefeated season is an indescribable feeling. Go Cougs!

People saying BYU made a lot of mistakes. While it’s clear they did not play their best, I think this is ACTUALLY reflective of coach Whitingham. He absolutely annihilated the O with all the defensive schemes. It was amazing to watch. This BYU O, normally who can drive at will, got absolutely pummeled by the UTE defense. They certainly had to dig deep to pull it off, and yes there were penalties that influenced the game, but to those new to this rivalry, that is just how it goes. Welcome to BYU vs Utah, perhaps the most complex rivalry in all of college football.

We should. Our clock management has been horrific for years. It's always been because of our OC. Ever since our very first game with him on the staff 6 frickin' years ago, we've had to burn 1 (or MORE) timeouts to avoid a delay of game penalty. I have no clue why or how in the world it somehow has not been fixed yet, but it takes FOREVER for the play call to get to the offense. More insane than that itself is the fact that it still happens at least once every game

The officiating was poor. However, it was poor both ways. Phantom facemask call against byu. Roughing the passer when BYU defender gave Ute QB a slight love tap. Utah called for a late hit on BYU QB when the defender was pulling up. The head of that officiating crew came with Utah from the PAC12. The Cougars won that game. They played a full 60 minutes (and many of those minutes were played poorly.) Utah defense quit after the 4th quarter defensive holding call.

In a few years, Utah football has gone from being one of the most beloved "underdog" teams in CFB (beating Oregon, USC and Caleb Williams, almost beating Ohio State) to one the most ridiculed and hated. They got too cocky and ultimately it became their downfall.
How did they get too cocky? Just cause they haven’t played as well as they were projected by both Utah and non-Utah fan alike and BYU finally is showing some promise.

Their AD scoffed at it like it was beneath him until the Pac imploded and the Big 12 was the only conference to throw them a lifeline. Then their coach still acts like they're too good to be here and openly says that he doesn't think they're going to be in the conference for very long (he may not be wrong just because of the game's chaotic landscape right now, but it's still a weird thing to say right after joining the league). Utah's coaches and administration clearly wanted a B1G invite and are pissed they have to be in the Big 12. They thought they would dominate it just by coasting and got slapped in the face. What's the most baffling part of their pride is the fact that that they actually haven't done much as a program. Why... because they are geographically close? Utah's home field advantage is huge. If this game was at BYU, Utah would have lost by at least two touchdowns.
BYU fan here since the Detmer days. As much as I cant stand the U. This rivalry is as big time and genuine as it gets. I really hope the poor sports in the utah administration dont punish the players, fans, and students by taking this game away from them. This is what the sport is all about!
