    Happy Sunday. Great job by your daughter making the tie dye t-shirt. With the pinkish red on top you can see her girly touch.

    Hi Jeff. I have not done this myself but I've seen Sydney the plant guy do it in almost the same way you did with chopping the top off the moss pole, except he will make multiple cuts above nodes. He usually does this with the bottom half before he does a prop and chop. Usually, above every node that he makes a cut he gets a new growth. So instead of having two or three new growth near the top of your pool, like in your example, he's got five six or seven along the whole length of the pole. I plan on doing this at some point. But I've been lazy....for about 2 years, lol.

    • @EverythingPlants
      @EverythingPlants  13 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +1

      I've done this method with my crawling philodendrons.... I chop each node while in the pot and they get individual growth points

    I recently chopped a Golden Pothos that was a single vine that had branched once or twice. I planted 6 cuttings directly back in the pot to fill it out and have numerous cuttings in water and a prop box. I think I have roots on the ones in the soil but no new growth yet. No roots yet in the water or in the prop box

    If anyone is interested in Hoyas, last summer I had a Hoya with a single vine growing up on a rope. The top of the plant split into two vines, so I decided to repot it. While I was repotting it, the tip broke off and I was a bit sad. I knew it would grow back eventually, so I propagated the other cutting. Then something really cool happened: the mother plant activated not one or two nodes, but seven (!) individual nodes. They don't all grow at the same rate, but I have a much prettier plant now. That's when I realized I need more Hoyas.

    I see after cutting you stuck cutting right in damp soil. Is that better than letting end of cutting "harden off" first? or does it matter??

    • @EverythingPlants
      @EverythingPlants  20 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +6

      Honestly I usually water propagate pothos. For other types of plants like jade I don't normally let the end callous over either. But that's just what I do lol

    This was fun, Jeff! I just chopped up my Manjula that was enormous, 6 feet trailing, giant bushy thing. I put all the cuttings in water propagation, and I have been throwing many of them out because they rotted at the cut. It seems that I should have used damp moss instead or hardened the cuttings off for some period of time. The Manjula seems particularly prone to rot at the cut, compared to, say, Philodendron Micans or any of the Scindapsus. I've chopped and propped them straight into water without hardening the cutting off successfully, seems like hundreds of times. Would you say the Manjula is easier to rot in your experience?

    • @EverythingPlants
      @EverythingPlants  16 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +3

      I haven't had too many issues in the past with rot in water. I cut it and place it right in water. Make sure there is enough light for the plant to photosynthesize. I feel like this is probably the issue for most failed props....not enough light. I rarely change the water but only top up as needed.

    • @ofhismercy109

      @EverythingPlants ok I will try more light! That makes a lot of sense, the cuttings were all a good distance away from the windows.....thanks Jeff

    • @EverythingPlants
      @EverythingPlants  6 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +1
