I love this subject, especially seeing the inside of extant garments. Will be great to hear about why they constructed them the way they did. I'm always peering at the innards of clothes at antique stores while people look at me like I'm nuts. I'm sure yous will be a great channel and thanks for all the resources you've included.
Thanks, Hoop - me, too! It'll be a fine balance, what I can share in terms of photos of extant garments as many collections have restrictions on that, but it's something I always check/ask. Where it's not possible to share the extants, I will of course share details and lots of close-ups of projects attempting to use and reproduce what I see in the antiques that I study.
My daughter fell for the gowns on the TV series Black Sails, and has gone down the rabbit hole of online research leading her to the mantua gown. I can't wait for her to see your channel. I was familiar with the term 'mantua maker' but never knew who or what it signified. Thank you!
Thank you so much for this content! I am looking forward to watching more of your videos! You are truly a speaker that can impart her knowledge in a well modulated voice that doesn't hurt your ears. I love it! Take care!
Oh joy, oh bliss! My two favorite subjects, 18th-century history and dressmaking, combined into one joyous experience. Looking forward to joining you on this adventure.
I love your videos. I went chasing after Larkin & Smith patterns based on your words. I am working on my PhD at Glasgow Uni and costuming plays an important role. I have many questions for you and hope you continue with these. I am particularly interested in undergarments and functionality of working attire for servants. Thank you!
Hi there, glad you're finding my videos useful. I'm all about the clothing of ordinary women - what they could get, where did they get it, and how these garments were made and by whom. Undergarments are key and functionality is at the heart of it all. (Staymaking is one of my favourite topics!) Hoping I'll be in Glasgow myself next year... if you're still there, let's get together for a chat. 😀
Hi Mary, I'm glad you're finding this helpful. Please feel free to let me know what information you'd like me to cover - either here or pop me a PM via one of the social media pages in the video description. :)
I've been sewing for a number of years but just two weeks ago I thought I'd like to hand sew a shirt, I'm now going to watch all your channel to see if I can get it right, first time
I'm so excited to go on this journey❤❤
Oh, I love this! The history of the mantua makers really deserve more attention, thank you for doing this!
Glad you enjoyed it! And yes, more to come. Meanwhile, please do check out the other scholars focusing on mantua-makers, in the description. :)

Yes! Those curtains!
Need a loose back style mantua, very happy to find this channel! The most elegant dress until Christian Dior...
Glad you enjoyed it! More videos in the pipeline, as soon as this term is over.
