You sir, are the king of kings. 6 months ago i spilled a hot cup of tea on my 3 year old macbook air, stupidly i tried to dry it with a hair dryer as soon as it happened. Tried many many times to try turn it on but nothing. I watched your video and bought the equipment you mentioned, from China, so it took about a month to get here, then i went on holidays, so I eventually got around to opening the damn thing last night, and took to the logic board with the IPA about an hour ago. Your video is for the pro so I had to read a tutorial on opening my mac but I got it done after about 1 and a half hours. It being tea, with milk and sugar, I thought it was doomed. Even looking at the logic board it looked pretty dirty even after i cleaned it 3 times. I turned it on, nothing. Plugged it in, turned it on, then about 10 seconds later the thing turns on! After 6 months, and a full cup of tea the thing turns on with the same stuff I had loaded when I spilled the tea on it. Bearing in mind I brought this to PC world who declared it doomed. They also tried to get information off my hard drive and told me it was completely bust, they couldnt even access the info, this thing turns on with all of the info intact. I had not backed up in about a year before the tea so getting all the info back means so much. I owe you much, you absolute legend. Tadhg
You are really absolutely perfect buddy! Thank you so much. I spilled water over my macbook pro 2015 about 8 months ago, waited for it to dry then tried to start it - didnt start! Then I did nothing for 8 months. Then I found your video, followed the steps and boy that macbook is perfectly working again! THANK YOU SO MUCH!
GREAT JOB! This Worked Perfectly on my Macbook Air! We took it to a store and they told us there was too much corrosion and we needed to buy a new motherboard or a new computer. I followed this videos instructions and cleaned it. I did use an air can to blow everything out before and after. And it came alive!! THANK YOU!!!!
I must say for all your viewers, this is a great video and has many great instructions. Regarding ISO alcohol, it comes in many flavors. I prefer 99% lab grade, and it can be purchased on Amazon. 91% is popular in local drug stores in CA, and 80% is typical for standard drug store quality but is NOT FOR CLEANING ELECTRONICS. You should point people to 91% MINIMUM< and 99% IDEAL quality, in which case you may not need other forms of drying materials, since 99% alcohol will dry recently spilled water or liquids on a motherboard. KEEP IN MIND, you should IMMEDIATELY OPEN AND DRY OUT a computer. Do not allow it to sit and CORRODE! Corrosion will kill a computer; best to OPEN IT IMMEDIATELY AND FORCE ALL LIQUIDS OUT OF IT, and use alcohol or other means to dry it IMMEDIATELY.
thanks man, I bought everything you said cleaned it with tooth brush. and it's working now I can't believe it. but I could not remove panel completely something was holding, so i cleaned the top part only.
I have this issue, except for me the rust is also underneath the component that you touch with your tweezers at 3:23, you didn't remove this part and it is connected to the battery I believe. How would I clean this part? Thanks
Hey! I poured water on my Macbook pro about 7 months ago and I let it dry for about a week but it didnt work... I pulled it out and tried turning it on today and I can hear that sound and light on my keyboard but I see nothing on the screen should I do this too??
your method works really well, thanks a lot for sharing your tutorial, i have just fix my sister macbook pro retina from water damage, its up and running smoothly now
Great job! I just cleaned our Early 2015 MacBook pro after light water damage. Unfortunately, the battery won't hold a charge and the "replace battery now" warning has come up. If I unplug it, the MBP dies. I'll open her up again tomorrow and see if I missed anything, but so far I'm happy to see my documents, and the computer running nearly perfectly. Im getting a bunch of certificate warnings/issues whenever I browse the internet, but we shall see.
Jerry Duran sorry about the delayed response. I just rewatched this video and noticed the comment. The certificate warnings have gone away, it had to do with the clock time. Has to be re set every time I unplug the Mac, but it still works as new. The battery won’t hold a charge, so I’ll have to get a new logic board or take the unit to the rossmann group and have them fix it. Totally worth it. It’s been over a year and I’ve been using it with no problems, although it’s been power cord bound
I've dropped a glass of red wine on my macbook like 3 years ago, and a cup of coffee about half a year ago. I didn't clean it at all after the red wine, but I did clean it after the coffee spillage. My macbook acts funny though, sometimes it ejects the macintosh HD by itself. Does this have anything to do with the spillage? Or is this a different issue?
hi I have the same problem with my Mac mid 2012 I had a small amount of water spilled on it I clean it with regular rubbing alcohol and a toothbrush I let it dry for a day with the bottom off and it will charge but it will not come on any suggestions? I cannot get the motherboard out I don't have the tri Wing screwdriver any other ideas on what to do
Apple is very clever when coming to using their proprietary screws. If you use any other screw drivers you might damage the screw. Buy the iFixit ones.
branden truss did you clean the mac by removing all of the screws and each component with the IPA or did you just clean once you removed the back case and disconnected the battery?
AMAZING! I am motivated to fix my macbook by myself! Had liquid damage and sent the machine to the Genius Bar but they told me I have to change the SSD and also the logic board. On top of that, they can't retrieve my data from the drive. Any idea? thanks!!
@@Kalaakaar-in It is the little board that shows the indicator of the charge in the battery. If you do not plug it on the logic board (beside the battery connector) and your MacBook recognizes the battery you need to replace (or clean and reflow) the little chip on that indicator board. It has three very tiny screws that hold it in place. Be sure not to remove the spongy material around the button on the board (it is no longer dust proof after this). I generally just replace them and once a month sit down on a rainy afternoon and fix the ones I replaced.
My macbook pro is spilled with lil water and immediately i put it upside down later my laptop working fine but only thing is i can see cloudy patches on 25% of my screen... How can i getrid of them please help me..... :(
Great video, I just bought a used macbook pro same 2015 model at very expensive price i did test everything before buying and after 2 weeks it suddenly shutdown, then it only gives me the repeated 3 error tones when i try to turn it on went to a repair shop and they told me its very probably that the memory got screwed up and probably needs all motherboard replaced also told me that probably that it had some humidity signs and seller might have heated the circuitry to work temporarly, i am puzzled and confused at what to do
Hello I love the video I unfortunately made the error of trying to power my system on again though it did work it stopped working after 30 seconds of being on do you think it’s worth performing this also is there a chance that I’d have to replace my keyboard and my battery? Thanks a lot
Hello great video! I spilled about 5 water drops near the enter/backspace/poweron keys on my macbook retina 13'. Maconline support told me they had to change top case, about $250. My mac powers on but shuts down if I dont press cmd or some key. I opened mine and had no alert of water spill nor corrosion. Any idea?, I didn't cleaned it though as I didn't find anything.
If you dont find the alert then dont tell the Service center guys about the spill. Just ask them to fix it if its under warranty. If it isn't then the only choice is to let it dry and test. If it still doesn't work then cleaning will be necessary.
Hey great video. I spilled a lot of water on my keyboard but I hurried to dry it. But before I watched this video I turned it off then back on. The screen is black. How bad is my situation looking?
Do you hear the apple chime? And does the keyboard backlight light up? If yes then your screen module may have been damaged. There is no alternative but to replay the entire screen. Btw where are you from?
+Shawna Ph.D Dont use blow dryer. It pushes the water more inside. Also this video is about how to repair damage. If you think your board is not damaged then just catlitter might work
mate its been a long time forgive me but i want to give you MASSIVE THANKS! great vid but i got some different problem form the water. My magicboard is OK but my retina screen has some water spot or like that. What should i do for recovery my retina screen? Can u any advice for me?
Hello sir i hva hp laptop nd today I just appling screen guard on screen nd for make my work essier i put some water on screen nd then i applly. Screen guard nd when i was finish to apply the guard nd i see there is two white line appare. But screen working properly so. Is this matter ll work if i make laptop dry in front of sun light???? Plz help help help ????
My MacBook didn't get water damaged, but I shut it down and now no matter what I do it will not turn back on the charger still works. It recently got "fixed" but they gave us the laptop back without charge because of "difficulties that were not in our profession" so I hit the power button and it worked great but it wouldn't sleep so I reset it and nothing then I decided to try and shut it down... This time it has died and the only thing responding is the charger! I need help!!
I let it dry and all, and it seems to be working fine, but my only problem is that it seems like the shift key is stuck. Like everything I type is uppercase, including numbers. Is there a way to open up the keyboard or something?
+GrasssnakeGildedserpent Reaching the keyboard from the backside is very difficult. So you might take out the shift keys from the front side. Then you can see the butterfly buttons. Remove that too to see the damage and try cleaning with IPA if possible. Do all these when the laptop is switched off.
Firstly, could the wifi have been fixed by cleaning the airport as well with isopropanol? Secondly, I bought isopropanol that's used to clean LP record players since that was all my local drugstore had to offer, do you think it will be enough? Lastly, should I open the trackpad as well and look in there since my coffee spill was mostly on the bottom left part of the laptop? (Macbook pro 2015 13'')
Acetone dries up fast. And yes it may change the paper colour to red because its designed for any liquid. But I doubt if it will damage any electronics if the mac was switched off. So keep it switched off and in a well ventilated area until all the nail polish remover is evaporated.
+mediamilan the Mac was turned on when the acetone was poured on it and I turned it on once right after but it turned off right away after. My mac won't turn on and it's passed 3 days
Hi, I spilled some beer on my MBP yesterday. I could say it was a lot not a few drops. Currently, it's upside down to dry. I only opened the lower back and saw that the moisture indicators, are not red, they're white. There are not any obvious liquid stains too. To this end, what would you propose to do? Do you recommend to open the power button after some days or remove the parts and further clean it. I am also confused about the steps on your video. If lots of liquid dropped on the MBP do you suggest to let it dry and clean inside or cleaning it inside directly. Thank you!
+Vivian Dimoraga if you have warranty then use it. Even after powering up if it doesnt work then please clean the logic board. Lots of water or less... If it powers up use it as is and if it doesnt follow the process. Clean it and then check again.
Hi, my had the same, but functional as normal after dry, but performance is very slow (kernel is 270%), and fan is very loud. Any suggestion pls. many thanks,
Hey mediamilan, Very nice video. Helps me to stay motivated that my MacBook Pro will work. After drying for 3 days inside home(I was not able to put it outside for drying as sun did not appear for 3 days :-/), I tried turning it on by putting the charging cable but the cable's light did not turn on and on pressing power button nothing happened. After searching on internet, I reset the SMC by pressing shift+ctrl+option+power button and releasing at same time. With this method, charging cable light turned on but display is still not coming on pressing the power button. Now, I have given my macbook to a service center for further cleaning( kind of same thing what you have shown in video). Can you please share your views about what could be the problem ? Is screen gone damaged or what ?
Thank you so so much it restored my pc and cost less than getting a new Mac and I have extra so if it ever happens again I can repeat this process thnx again
I took it to the apple store and they opened it. They sent me pictures of where the liquid have reached and I think it reached the logic board. However, it works totally fine and it only says for the battery "replace now". That's why it needs to be plugged in order for it to work. Do you think I need to replace the logic board?
My MBPr turns on and makes the chime and all, however it seems the SSD is not being recognized by the computer (please note I didn't try turning it on for 7 full days after it received the water damage). Is it worth opening it up and cleaning the components? Because in my experience, I don't believe I can clean an SSD as it isn't just an exposed PCB like the logic board. Please let me know, thank you.
I just spilled some ware on my MacBook Air. The water did not get into the keyboard as I had on a keyboard protector but the MacBook closed down itself and wouldn't power on again. I set it to dry . Do MacBook close down to protect the components or is this most definitely a short circuit?
Yes. They do shutdown to protect themselves. But that does mean that the water has has gone in through some ports. So please power it on only after two days. Wait. Patience will help.
I am using my MacBook Pro 15 (2013 early) with LCD monitor after water (screen clean liquid) damaged. Water damaged (screen clean liquid) happened 3 month ago. And i did show my MacBook but they want much money, like 500$ to fix video graphic structures. Will your approach be good for my computer. I am waiting your feedback.
I have a MacBook Air. Spilled water on it not long ago. I turned it off right after, then left it off for a while. A few minutes later I turned it on and everything worked fine, or atleast seemed to work, but when I tested how a video would work on it, the video was slower than usual, like the speed was 0.5 rather than normal speed. Another issue is the audio, I didn't hear a thing so I pressed the volume button and it gave me a 'unavailable' sign. Everything else works fine except video speed and audio. Do you know any other ways I can fix the issue other than your steps in the video?
Although i am Very much afraid to take out the parts from the back of my macbook. I am letting it drt for some days, may be order the stuffs i ll need to fix it. Dont know if t will work with my mac or not. :(
I think I may have charged my macbook too soon. It wont turn on however the light shows up when it is "charging" i know it has no battery but the light is green. does that mean the motherboard is fried? I havent tried your repair method yet, I will try this out and see if it works. hope I have not ruined the motherboard
Thanks for the video. I have a liquid damage in my macbook pro. I feel upset because I bought it 4 months ago. It works fine but it should be plugged. What do you think my problem is? Also this happened 3 weeks ago.
+Ithar Alsawwafi Sorry about that. I would suggest you open your Mac and take a look. You can see which board is affected right away. That would help your decision.

I spilled Coke about 5 days ago on my 2015 Macbook Pro. I drained out as much of the liquid I could and dried it. Now, it doesn't start up, I get the chime, the logo and the login screen, but once I enter pw, it goes black. So, i opened the back and there are two red dots. One is over the battery and the other is over the logic part next to the battery. I think I need to try this method. I have all the tools and supplies, I wanted to know how long are you supposed to submerge it into the silica?
+Ambreen Syed About two to three hours should be enough. But when you take out make sure you check the ICs and other parts if they are still wet. Once you are sure then you can start re-assembling. Btw coke is a sugar based liquid. So before you use IPA to clean the board, rinse it with normal water to wash off the sugar stains. Then clean with IPA and a brush.
I spilled a bit coffee on the left side of macbook pro 13 inch retina. Now I can turn it on, but the battery is not working. It seems the battery is no longer connected. When I disconnect the magsafe, it shuts down immediately. Any thoughts? thank you. Very cool video. So informative. Stanley
+Stanley Xu the part of the logic board which use to do power management must have been affected by the coffee. Please clean your logic board with Isopropyl alcohol and try it again.
I accidentally spilled makeup remover (mainly water but some other stuff too) and it got into my screen! The bottom left corner is brighter then the rest and you can see liquid currently my Mac is upside down on a desk and has been for almost a day since I can't get to apple till Friday
Hey , Nice Video :D Anyway i did all the steps on my macbook pro 15 late 2011 , and it worked . Unfortunatly the screen is black , i can hear the chime and all the usual sounds but no display , can u give me any advices ?
Dude your forget to reattach one cable antenna on the wifi, that s why it s not working... Do you know what can i do if the screw on the back won t turn anymore???
+gzaos even if one wire is not connected it is supposed to work with other wires. Anyway before making the video i connected all and I am sure that my right I/O board which is connected to airport card isn't working.

some water went into Macbook from back joint of screen, so will this process work for my macbook too ? the macbook has been waiting for 1 day, and the water was not that much. so what process should i do ? thank you.
Just clean it. After you do then you can be sure that you have crossed one step. But its Macbook Pro if the screen doesn't work then the whole module have to be removed.
Hello, i spilled sweet tea on my MacBook Air. I followed all steps and could successfully get it turned on. But i have one problem. Fan noise is very loud and cpu(gpu also because it is integrated) is 2x times slower. App helps reduce fan noise but does not help with cpu perfomance. I tried doing SMC and PRAM reset but none of that helped. I would be very grateful if you could help me.
hi! yesterday some water fell on the the side, near the ports of my mbp. I have tried hairdriers, rice and turning it upside down and open the whole day. It doesnt turn on, it males a faint clicking noise when I press the power button what can I do? if the amount of water that fell is very little, will apple technicians know that my mac has had water damage? thank you
+Javier Molina You can give it to Apple. If the water has not reached the color changing paper then Apple guys will not know. But I doubt it. You can try and you wont loose anything. If they do it good. If they don't then you can open it yourself. Clean it up and get it working. The result. You will be more confident on fixing things.
+mediamilan Thank you very much! This morning I have used the hairdryer method during 30 min in the ports in which the water fell. I left the laptop in my desk and I don't know how, but it started booting up alone. It works perfectly now. Thanks for your help!
Thats great to know. But do not use too much hairdryer as i may melt components. I can even desolder smaller resistors on logic board. Let is just dry.
Half glass of milk spill on the my Mac book pro. I did not open it for 3 days. Now I got the tool kit and opened the Mac Book. I observe that, the dot which you indicated in your video in Red Color is still showing me in White Color. So is my macbook in good condition? Can I start the Mac machine?
+sathish885 Nope. If you still see it in white then please take it to the service center and ask them to open it. Btw there are three to four places which has these white dots that turn to red. So you need to check all. If all are white then service center is the best option.
I just spilled half cup of water on my MBP like 10 minutes ago and I'm here watching this video.... it seems like everything is working fine except the trackpad, but it was already broken so I wouldn't know. I hope my MBP is a tough one..
+Xueyang Wu even mine worked for an entire day. After shutting it down for the night the next day it dint work. It takes time for water to slowly seep in. I wish i had anyone to tell me to stop doing anything and let it dry upside down. Then i wouldnt have to open my MBP.
Thanks for the video. My son's mbp was on a table and someone spilt milk. Aparently the milk got into the computer I brought it to apple but they wanted $750 to repair even though i have the app care. Do you think you method will work for me? It's been about a month - haven't tried to turn the computer on in three weeks or so. thoughts on best way to proceed. If your video does not help me, is the logic board something i can order and install myself?
+Pam Plotkin Thanks for the detailed information. Here are some thoughts/answers 1. Milk is does not evaporate completely. It leaves stain. So after u remove the logic board you can see the spill areas. Wash the logic board in water and then clean it with IPA. Water will not damage ur board until you apply power to it. So you can use water. Do not worry. But make sure its all dry before you put it together. 2. 90% of the time the method shown in the video works. But by some bad luck it does not then you can replace the logic board urself. But I suggest that you try cleaning first. Because I am sure that will solve your problem.
Thanks for the great video! I'm thinking about trying this on my 2014 Macbook Pro. I spilled water on the keyboard and after a minute or so it turned off and never turned back on. A few months later I tried again and it turned on for 5 minutes, booting up my session before the spill, but then turned off and wouldn't turn back on. It showed 0% battery and it won't charge, so I think the issue is a relatively simple one.
I spilled wine on my MacBook a couple of hours ago. It's not like yours, mine has that CD thing. I immediately tried to turn it off but it doesn't worked, at first the screen flashed, then it was black. Then off by itself. A friend told me to submerge it in water so it was easier to clean and desperately I did. Now I am really scared I completely ffff it up. It's drying on my table now :( any advice?
+Liliana Reyes submerging in water is a good idea. But just drain all the water and keep it dry for a very long time so all water is gone. Use some kind of silicone absorbent to speed up the process. Just don't switch it on in a hurry.

Very good vid I'm gonna try it , I have a mac air a few years old and of course I spilled water on it . I wonder if the hard drive is affected as well ? Ps thank you for the vid Alan
+mediamilan And if there will be short circuit, after you make the motherboard clean (by your method from this video), the hardware components will work? Right? Or there is a possibility, after you dropped water on the MBP, yo`ll have to buy new hardware components? Thanks
Good video and well presented :) i have a mbpr which had a small amount of coffee spilt on the lower section of keyboard. It was workibg fine, then 2 weeks after the event, the screen turned off. Machine still boots, but no display :( Its still under apple care, but i know if the liquid sensor has been activated it will be rejected. Do you know if its possible to check these sensors without removing the battery? As you probably know the battery is glued in, so pretty hard to check without leaving a trace for apple to know ive had it apart :D
+Jon Bkk the battery is places in your trackpad area. So there are no sensors there. The spill sensors are only in the motherboard. So you can open the back cover and check.

+mediamilan ok thanks. I checked 8 of the 10 liquid indicators - the ones i could see without removing components. The other 2 arent in the area of the spill, so its gone to apple today. Fingers crossed they fix it! :)
+Lowaza Yes. I does technically void the warranty. But you can get away with it if you use a proper screw driver and IF it does not leave any tool marks.
Hello, will this work even if the SSD has been damaged? I spilled water on the table where my MacBook was and I didn’t realise water had gone in. When I took it to Apple, I was told that it would cost around £1500 to repair which is more than what the new one costs. Would really appreciate your help! Thank you
Windex on the toothbrush works just as good with all the money u used u could have just payed to get fix wow a lot of high price stuff mine had smell so don't know if cleaning will work but I going to try another place if that does not work I try cleaning my self if not I just pay for to the new part or get a new mode I got expencive software I use for animation so needed
***** The sound card is detected. The sound even works fine using bluetooth external speakers. but nothing from the laptop's speakers or the aux jack. it's unfortunate
***** I actually reinstalled the whole operating system twice and still the same issue. When I click f10 and f11 I get the message showing that the sound is going up or down. But nothing off of the speaker or the audio jack. Only Bluetooth speakers work. This is after 2 month of 1 year warranty.

Hi I live in Mumbai, yesterday I spilled around half a cup of water on my Retina MacBook Pro 13". I tried booting it and now I've diagnosed that the boot disk is not detected. Everything else seems to be fine like the processor, battery, keyboard, trackpad, display, logic board, USB and HDMI ports. What should I do? I really don't want to lose my data! Feeling frustrated. I feel like I should contact Apple support. What should I do?
Hello, I spilled Pepsi Max on the keyboard. I followed your steps to dry the liquid out. After 4 days, the macbook turns on and everything is okay, except the keyboard, which suffers from eratic behaviour : the keys will type anything but what they're supposed to. Will I recover the keyboard if I follow the rest of your procedure, or should I change it ?
I spilled vitamin water on my retina display that has an UPPERCASE keyboard cover attached. I tried to turn it off and turn my laptop upside down as fast as i could. Im letting it sit, but i think it turned off after i spilled the vitamin water. if i have a cover how does it still RUIN MY MACBOOK. PLEASE HELP :(
+Tyler Hong there are other way it can seep into your board. A drop at the right place is enough to make the machine stop. Vitamin water has sugar and minerals. So make sure you wash the board with water and then IPA to get it working again.

+Olu Ayanbiola Wishing you good luck. Just make sure you clean all the board. Irrespective if you can see the damage or no. Because the damage could be very small too and invisible. So brushing the entire board with Alcohol will greatly help. Let me know how it goes.
+mediamilan but my spill was from the side of my mac being closed and not on the keyboard. Is this better or worse than if the spill of water was on my keyboard? also, it was a very small spill.
+Noah youdonteneedtoknow if it has spilled from the side then it is better follow the steps in the video to open and clean it. Because there is a huge possibility of it reaching the motherboard. Do not switch on the mac until you clean it entirely.
He should have cleaned the silver rctic paste from the chip and reapplied it. Why not , if you go so much trouble of cleaning and dismantling the laptop.
I have a few questions. I spilled pickle juice on my mac it won't turn on or charge at all. Will this still work for me? Is Isopropyl rubbing alcohol 99% the same as the one you stated? Are the silica things necessary?
Yes IPA and rubbing alcohol are the same. Please wash the boards first in water and then use IPA to clean the boards. Silica just helps dry things faster. Otherwise you can let the boards dry for about a day before putting it together. Basically we just need to make sure there isn't any water before you assemble it.
+mediamilan I really don't want to take it apart though, I've done the first step and its working fine, is there anything I need to do to keep it working okay?
+phan trash If I were you I would atleast open just the back cover to spot any spill damage. That would confirm if the spill has reached the logic board. Just to be sure. If it hasn't and no visible damage then I would just continue to enjoy working.
Update on how it went with the coffee? My mbpr bathed in coffee earlier today and I immediately turned it off, turned it upside down and started drying it out. I ordered the tools to open it so I'll be able to start looking at it next week.
It was only a small spill but enough went on it to potentially do some harm. I turned mine upside down and left it for about a week, I turned it on and it was fine. I didn't need to open it up. I'd leave it a bit longer if I were you and see if it works.
Nice video. I love your sense of humor. I'm not sure why you took the heat sink off. I wouldn't of thought that would of mattered. That said, it was a little scary to see how poorly Apple covered the GPU with thermal paste.
you dont need the silicon beeds if you use pure iso - alcohol, it will evaporate quickly and you also need to clean the old CPU past, and apply fresh layer of thermal paste.
mediamilan that's what's weird. Hardly any water damage at all. When I opened it up there is no trace of water damage anywhere. My friend spilled a glass of water on the table and mac book just quit working. There was no water on it at all. Now it's collecting dust.

I am glad that a video that I did 3yrs ago is still useful for many. Did you say welcome my Mac?
Thank you!
Great job, you really saved my life. My mac air is running perfectly after follow your steps. I was in panic and hopeless..
I am happy it helped even after so many years.
thanks man, I bought everything you said cleaned it with tooth brush. and it's working now I can't believe it. but I could not remove panel completely something was holding, so i cleaned the top part only.
+Alexander Mouradov I am glad you liked it. Thank you.
Thank you for this video! The steps were easy to follow, and now my MacBook Pro is up and running again.
+Jenna Behrens thats good to know. Thank you for sharing
but my macbook in dot shading in screen due to water damage i m clean the macbook but not responce as well please guide
If your Mac Arena Slowene you have User to much Paste. It Isolator the Chip
I have this issue, except for me the rust is also underneath the component that you touch with your tweezers at 3:23, you didn't remove this part and it is connected to the battery I believe. How would I clean this part? Thanks
Can you please ping me on my Facebook page to show me which part exactly are you talking about. I saw the video at 3:23 but wasn't able to understand.
Hey! I poured water on my Macbook pro about 7 months ago and I let it dry for about a week but it didnt work... I pulled it out and tried turning it on today and I can hear that sound and light on my keyboard but I see nothing on the screen should I do this too??
My macbook had slight water leaked into it. The indicator didnt turn pink though, its still white?
Hello, my macbook pro was spilled by lactovisoy, this is a kind of baby suplement to protein liquid, so i dont know what to do.
Wash the board and follow the same process
your method works really well, thanks a lot for sharing your tutorial, i have just fix my sister macbook pro retina from water damage, its up and running smoothly now
Thats great news.
Angel Rosario any update? I have the same scenario
Buy the iFixit ones.
branden truss did you clean the mac by removing all of the screws and each component with the IPA or did you just clean once you removed the back case and disconnected the battery?
dominos reid once I remove the screws I can't get All the screws out to do the other side I didn't use iPa I used regular alcohol And a toothbrush
AMAZING! I am motivated to fix my macbook by myself! Had liquid damage and sent the machine to the Genius Bar but they told me I have to change the SSD and also the logic board. On top of that, they can't retrieve my data from the drive. Any idea? thanks!!
how did that go for you? im in the same situation :/
+Tyg Dyltyn same situation here. Not trying to pay half of the price of the original computer to get it fixed.
same situationwith the ssd and logic board. did this work out for you?
.
Never had this issue but it's nice to know how to fix it..I never eat or drink near my Laptops or computers...great video!
+Kushinda Perera Thank you.
I've been researching into Mac speed ups and found an awesome resource at Mels Speed Method (check it out on google)
Great video man. Question.....I spilled water on my MacBook pro 2013 and it wouldn't turn on unless plugged in. Would the battery be faulty?
If the battery is faulty it would have swollen by now. Must be the circuit which connects the logic board to the battery
Can u help me in repairing my MacBook Pro 13 ? Please
My macbook pro is spilled with lil water and immediately i put it upside down
later my laptop working fine but only thing is i can see cloudy patches on 25% of my screen... How can i getrid of them please help me..... :(
how come you didnt replace the thermal paste?
+ProducedBy10A I did.
Great video, I just bought a used macbook pro same 2015 model at very expensive price i did test everything before buying and after 2 weeks it suddenly shutdown, then it only gives me the repeated 3 error tones when i try to turn it on went to a repair shop and they told me its very probably that the memory got screwed up and probably needs all motherboard replaced also told me that probably that it had some humidity signs and seller might have heated the circuitry to work temporarly, i am puzzled and confused at what to do
Yes please clean it. Ram is actually fused to the motherboard so if anything wrong all has to be changed. But I think when you clean it should work.
Hello I love the video I unfortunately made the error of trying to power my system on again though it did work it stopped working after 30 seconds of being on do you think it’s worth performing this also is there a chance that I’d have to replace my keyboard and my battery? Thanks a lot
Is it safe to clean the ssd with the isopropyl if you see residue on it??
Yes. SSD is just another circuit board like the logic board. It does not have any mechanical parts. So you can clean them the same.
+mediamilan ty, will try the cleaning, warranty finished about a month ago, I didnt tell them about the spill obiously, thx again
Can you just put the computer in a glad lock bag with the cat liter. or just a blow dryer?
Nice work!! Do I have to remove the heat sink and apply thermal paste? Can I skip this step?
Hi what is the percentage of the isopropyl did you use?? I have the 91% will that get the job done?
Yes 91% is good enough.
+T Jansson unless the boards is fried just cleaning with ANY isopropyl alcohol should be enough.
Hi! Thanks for the video.. in my case only the display had been damaged by the water. What should I do? thank you
Hi Defrancos. The display is a single unit and has to be changed entirely.
same issue here. how can you solved ur screen problem mate?
@@acercesalih I changed the entire screen ( entire cover) solved the problem.
I spilled acetone nail polish remover on mine. 😞 Any tips for me? Also will the paper turn red if it's in contact with the acetone remover
Then it must have affected the circuit. Please open up and clean with IPA.
It works with none problem except some sticky buttons! Thanks!
Hi, my had the same, but functional as normal after dry, but performance is very slow (kernel is 270%), and fan is very loud. Any suggestion pls. many thanks,
+Pom Rutchapon I am sorry but please see how the logic board is by opening the back cover. May be that answers.
+Pom Rutchapon I am sorry but please see how the logic board is by opening the back cover. May be that answers.
Will this still work after a week? I spilled only a little
Hey mediamilan,
Very nice video.
Did you hear the Mac chime sound on boot up?
Nopes, no chime sound. Not even fan started.
+Nishank Singla Then the logic board needs cleaning. Lemme know how it works out after you get it from the service center.
Sure, I definitely let you know. What do you think about screen ? Does it also gets damaged ?
+Nishank Singla I dont think so. But it also depends on where the water was spilt.
Thank you so so much it restored my pc and cost less than getting a new Mac and I have extra so if it ever happens again I can repeat this process thnx again
+Gabriella Jones I am happy this video helped.
np I'm much more happy than you though i promise now i can do my work =3
I took it to the apple store and they opened it. They sent me pictures of where the liquid have reached and I think it reached the logic board. However, it works totally fine and it only says for the battery "replace now". That's why it needs to be plugged in order for it to work. Do you think I need to replace the logic board?
+Ithar Alsawwafi that would be too costly. I believe in about $900 range. So try cleaning it yourself first.
+mediamilan even if about a month have passed? Thanks a lot and I'll try my best to clean it.
It woudn't hurt to try. If it works that would be great isn't it?
What is the actual color of the indicator? is it blue? or something?
It usually is white in colour. But after water damage it turns red.
+mediamilan thank you I will let you know!
+Hitts1980 I think it may have splashed in the thunderbolt or the usb
I am using my MacBook Pro 15 (2013 early) with LCD monitor after water (screen clean liquid) damaged. Water damaged (screen clean liquid) happened 3 month ago. And i did show my MacBook but they want much money, like 500$ to fix video graphic structures. Will your approach be good for my computer. I am waiting your feedback.
I hope we live in the same country. I could have helped you with fixing your Mac.
+Mahmoud Chakik the water must have seeped into keyboard. Hope you are able to solve it
Although i am Very much afraid to take out the parts from the back of my macbook. I am letting it drt for some days, may be order the stuffs i ll need to fix it. Dont know if t will work with my mac or not. :(
+Kundan Agrawal What is the model of your Mac?
Are the screws outside, on the lower case, the same as the ones inside (on the motherboard)? And will this work on a Macbook Air?
Also, I've heard that you'll need to reapply thermal paste but this video doesnt mention it
+KMT 132 check the video till the end. I have shown applying thermal paste.

Please clean your logic board with Isopropyl alcohol and try it again.
great. I will try. thanks so much.
I accidentally spilled makeup remover (mainly water but some other stuff too) and it got into my screen! The bottom left corner is brighter then the rest and you can see liquid currently my Mac is upside down on a desk and has been for almost a day since I can't get to apple till Friday
did you manage to get the nail polish remover out by just turning your laptop upside down?
+Blaise Sepac my screen is still messed up but its nothing major just kinda bright
Niamh S. did you get it to Apple? What did they do to it? Is it working ?
Hey , Nice Video :D Anyway i did all the steps on my macbook pro 15 late 2011 , and it worked .
Unfortunatly the screen is black , i can hear the chime and all the usual sounds but no display , can u give me any advices ?
+B2P- BornToPlay Check the cable that connects the LCD for damage. If it looks alright then may be the display is gone.

But its Macbook Pro if the screen doesn't work then the whole module have to be removed.
mediamilan now there is a another problem which macbook shot itself and not opening while watching a movie ! Can you help me ? Thank you
Hello, i spilled sweet tea on my MacBook Air.
Fan is a mechanical part and if the coil is spoilt that could cause this issue.
But you can find an easy replacement for the fan.
hi! yesterday some water fell on the the side, near the ports of my mbp. I have tried hairdriers, rice and turning it upside down and open the whole day. It doesnt turn on, it males a faint clicking noise when I press the power button
what can I do? if the amount of water that fell is very little, will apple technicians know that my mac has had water damage? thank you
+Javier Molina You can give it to Apple.
I know, I did it very carefully, as I used the cold air mode (it is actually not cold, but about 20 Celsius). Thanks!
Half glass of milk spill on the my Mac book pro. I did not open it for 3 days. Now I got the tool kit and opened the Mac Book. I observe that, the dot which you indicated in your video in Red
Color is still showing me in White Color.
Here are some thoughts/answers
Just don't switch it on in a hurry.

worked fine, thank you!
Yay!! Positive outcome. Nice!
Very good vid I'm gonna try it , I have a mac air a few years old and of course I spilled water on it . I wonder if the hard drive is affected as well ? Ps thank you for the vid Alan
Cool. Let me know how it goes.
One question, is there any chance that dropping any water on the mbp will eventually broke any hardware components?
+Cotfas VLAD NICOLAE it may short circuit. But no break anything.
+Cotfas VLAD NICOLAE it may short circuit. But no break anything.

+Jon Bkk Did they fix it?
Jason Roy they did!...new screen and new logic board :)
Does your warranty become void if you open the back/bottom of the Macbook pro retina as you've done in the video?
+Lowaza Yes. I does technically void the warranty. But you can get away with it if you use a proper screw driver and IF it does not leave any tool marks.
Hello, will this work even if the SSD has been damaged? I spilled water on the table where my MacBook was and I didn’t realise water had gone in. When I took it to Apple, I was told that it would cost around £1500 to repair which is more than what the new one costs. Would really appreciate your help! Thank you
I would suggest to buy the SSD alone and test it out. Or swap with someone you know just to test before buying a new SSD
Do you need to let i dry for 3 days before you open up the MacBook?
+Fashion 9.D Yes. Why go through all the trouble of cleaning the Mac if you can just let it dry and hope that solves the issue.
Very useful. Thanks for the video.
+Mark Cook thank you

Windex on the toothbrush works just as good with all the money u used u could have just payed to get fix wow a lot of high price stuff mine had smell so don't know if cleaning will work but I going to try another place if that does not work I try cleaning my self if not I just pay for to the new part or get a new mode I got expencive software I use for animation so needed
Cool and informative video!
Thank you!
Will this work with 91% alcohol
i cant hear anything on my laptop it work perfectly but no sound btw i open cc if i need help

i did not try it but i am pretty sure it wont work can you help me plz
I have the same issue currently for a laptop my 2015 macbook. The only way I get sound is through bluetooth. Out of warranty unfortunately.
+Vaibhav Síngh then I believe the water must have reached you PCI data HDD. You can try contacting Apple. May be of help.

Great job thanx for this i will try this
Lovely video. Greetings from Kentucky.
+nihonxs please follow the procedure before changing. Because the problem could me in the logic board too. Unless you clean it you will never know.
Ok thanks !
So make sure you wash the board with water and then IPA to get it working again.

so just cleaning the board should fix my water damaged mac retina?
yes cleaning the board and letting if dry enough should be enough.
+mediamilan trying right now, i really hope so.
+Olu Ayanbiola Wishing you good luck. Just make sure you clean all the board. Irrespective if you can see the damage or no. Because the damage could be very small too and invisible. So brushing the entire board with Alcohol will greatly help. Let me know how it goes.
+mediamilan its back on, thanks for the video.
+Olu Ayanbiola that's awesome to know. wohooo!!
Hey you must replace the thermal grease
It is basic step!!!
It did it multiple times after the video.
so for the first step I should just leave my mac for 4 days without touching it or trying to charge it?
+Noah youdonteneedtoknow If the spill is very less then let it dry out.
+mediamilan alright i will get a technician i know to do what you said hopefully this mac will work since i bought less than 2 weeks ago.
+Noah youdonteneedtoknow you are the in the same place as I was when this water damage happened. Hopefully you will be too. Wish you good luck.
Very good video, thank you very much.
Cool. Thanks.
He should have cleaned the silver rctic paste from the chip and reapplied it. Why not , if you go so much trouble of cleaning and dismantling the laptop.
I did that eventually.
Very helpful!
Does this work for a coffee spill?
+phan trash Yes it would. Make sure you brush off thoroughly the coffee residues from the logic board.
Thank you very much!
Nice video. I love your sense of humor.
I'm not sure why you took the heat sink off. I wouldn't of thought that would of mattered. That said, it was a little scary to see how poorly Apple covered the GPU with thermal paste.
+Bryan Cady Thanks for the tip about heat sink. I dint know that while I was removing the parts.
I was drunk and threw up all over mine and now it's broken do I follow the same steps?
+Tom Gray yes. Please do and clean all parts. It should work.
+mediamilan I was worried about what to do so decided to take it to a professional
Great! Let me know if everything works right. Thanks.
Is there really a red dot that indicates when you have water damage on your computer?
it's actually there in all electronic products that you buy now.
So if I where to open up my computer and it was water damaged the red light would be on?
+Alan Sanchez Its not a bulb. Its a paper that is normally white in colour. But when comes in contact with water it turns red.
Oh ok thank you very much for the fast reply I really appreciate it.
+Alan Sanchez My pleasure
you dont need the silicon beeds if you use pure iso - alcohol, it will evaporate quickly and you also need to clean the old CPU past, and apply fresh layer of thermal paste.
Lol I got a similar screwdriver set to that with a lifetime warranty for $6.
+Merihobu Lucky you!
hehe im Polish I am living in Uk and I am watch Indian vidioWTF man you are good but i love Indian food...and so I am going to visit your Country!
+mariusz p You are welcome to our country anytime. Ping me when you are here.
Didn't work for me.
+svtzeater must be a deep damage
mediamilan that's what's weird. Hardly any water damage at all. When I opened it up there is no trace of water damage anywhere.
My friend spilled a glass of water on the table and mac book just quit working. There was no water on it at all. Now it's collecting dust.
