The Disney ride It’s a Small World is a beloved and iconic boat attraction found at several Disney theme parks around the world. First introduced at the 1964-65 New York World’s Fair, the ride was later moved to Disneyland in California and became a signature Disney experience.
Guests board a boat and are taken on a slow-moving journey through vibrantly decorated scenes featuring animatronic dolls dressed in traditional clothing from various cultures. These dolls sing the ride’s famous theme song, “It’s a Small World (After All),” written by the Sherman Brothers. The song promotes a message of unity, peace, and global harmony.
The ride’s design is characterized by whimsical, colorful sets created by Disney artist Mary Blair, whose bold geometric patterns and childlike artistic style became hallmarks of the attraction. Its façade, with its striking white-and-gold clock tower and moving figures, is instantly recognizable.
The “redux” version may refer to updates or redesigns Disney has periodically made to the ride, such as the inclusion of Disney and Pixar characters dressed in culturally appropriate attire in some scenes, enhanced lighting and audio, or modernization of mechanical elements while preserving the original charm and theme of global unity.
