    In this video, I'll share a new way to hold a heavy pair of binoculars - that makes stargazing SO much easier.
    The Para Light parallelogram combo from Starlight Innovations is a lightweight and portable solution that makes visual observing more enjoyable.

    I have a similar homebuilt parallelogram on an old celestron CGEM tripod. Use it with different counterweights for either 10x50s or 25x100s. Suspend the binoculars over a zero gravity chair and it's like floating while looking through a window into space. Just a wonderfully unique stargazing experience.

    Amen to your wonderful closing words. Visual astronomy is something one never tires of. The rest can become a rather wreckingly-costly exercise in gear-whoring and ego. Here, you gave us all a salutary reminder of the simple wonders of visual observing, which kicked the whole hobby off for most of us - often at a young age. Still, this is a very costly mount it has to be said (though you did not).

    All jokes aside, the tripod legs themselves cost almost more than a complete Orion monster parallelogram system, and it was made in someone’s wood shop. I’m going to give this a a yea na yea…na. Don’t sell out your viewers Trevor. Tell us what is the best option. Even if they give for free, you should tell us the truth when there are better cheaper options out there. Do better.

    With this design you are right on the tripod with very little room since the pivot point is so close to the binoculars. Look at the two models that Orion has that you can actually lay back in a lawn chair and use. I know you would prefer to buy Canadien, but I don't consider these the best option for the money.

      @@deathrager2404 - how is it shit? Also, as a fellow astronomer who owns a very nice 8 inch Schmidt Cassegrain, I still appreciate my binoculars. I can go out on my own after everyone has gone to bed and just point them at the sky. Binoculars are not a poor relation to a telescope, they are a different type of viewing - you might find yourself surprised - I've seen the moons of Jupiter, Andromeda, the stars of the trapezium in Orion and some globular clusters with my old 10 by 50s.

    I don't know if this has been mentioned in the video or in the comments, but it's probably called a parallelogram since (at e.g. 5:00 you can see) the wood frame forms a parallelogram. Incase you don't know, it's a shape, like a square or circle.

    Hey, I was wondering if an attempt at astrophotography would be possible with an equatorial mount and only a motor drive for the RA axis, would the image be steady enough to take long exposure images? Please keep in mind that results you would consider trash would probably be pure magic to me, I’m on a serious budget, I’d say about €1200 but would love to take this up.

    Mind making a good video about basic Observation and sky navigation tips and techniques with binoculars?
    I've been trying to find a good video to show someone who is new to astronomy and binoculars but most videos only cover a handful of tips, or are simply about choosing which pair to buy.

    • @Disnamesucksass
      @Disnamesucksass 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Perhaps basics like how to use a starchart like the paper ones and an app like sky-portal to find objects. Basic star hopping, making triangles with stars on the map and in the sky to help correctly identify what you are looking at is correct, stuff like that.
      These are things I've all explained, but I just noticed a lack of videos out there with all this information in one place, or even video series on youtube. Love your work by the way, thanks to a lot of your tips I'm really enjoying astrophotography, even though I have only 3 deep sky photos im remotely happy with.

      @mctylr1 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The biggest issue I imagine is that there is too much content for a single video. The other is that there is often a blend of theory (or explanation) and practical demonstrations requiring the right conditions in the appropriate season that would drastic increase the production effort necessary to produce a high quality video with computer graphics and animations for explanations and demonstrations. Not a bad goal, I just don't think a single amateur could easily do it themselves.

    which binos would you recommend for astronomy?

    • @mctylr1
      @mctylr1 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you already have a pair of binoculars, just try them. If you want to purchase a pair primarily for astronomy then, typically any non-zoom style with between 7 to 10 times magnification (7x to 10x), and 42 to 50mm aperture (the lens size at the light gather end) is the range for adults to comfortable hold steady, and recommended for beginners. In astronomy the aperture, has the bigger impact for improved visibility of faint objects. The metaphor of larger aperture being bigger "light buckets" for gathering more light to see faint objects. While magnification is useful, it also amplifies any shaking as well as enlarging the image. Particular recommendations depend on your budget, but most modern binoculars are good, and the best models cost more. 10x50 benefit and larger models all but require a support to keep them steady. Many astronomical oriented binos come with a tripod adaptor, but I suggest a using a monopod (i.e. just a single pole with an mount) for most sizes. I use a monopod on my 10x50 and 15x70 binoculars. I most often use a small 8x42 pair hand held because they are convenient to use.
