As of today - January 29th, 2024 - Spec Ops: The Line has been permanently removed from the Steam Store and is no longer available for purchase. Let us all have a moment of silence for PC users everywhere who will never get the chance to experience this masterpiece of a game.
I remember the first time I opened up Spec Ops: The Line and being greeted with this hellish yet familiar tune. With the upside down, battle worn American flag, swaying in the wind. I already knew this game was going to be something drastically different.
Dude the flag being upside down is a "fuck you" in soccer culture, we usually flip the rivals emblems as just that. Not sure if that's what the meaning is.
@@abdou.the.heretic He is correct. In U.S. civil and military doctrine, flying the American flag upside down is a signal/message that the bearer(s) of said-flag are in dire danger or distress and require immediate assistance.
@@TheUnslainDragon oh okay! Great to know! there are different meanings to the same symbol across multiple cultures! Fascinating!! Live an other day learn an other thing.
One of the best scariest non-horror video games. Spec Ops is up there with games like Manhunt, Twisted Metal Black, Silent Hill & Bioshock. A psychological roller coaster.
Just completed the game for the first time. Dont understand whats the meaning for this song to keep playing even after Radioman is dead and even after Dubai is dead.
This is Jimmy Hendrix when he played this at the Woodstock festival in the 1970s during the height of the Vietnam war it was made as an anti war protest which this game kinda of feels like.
@@tuauafiafiahoching1753 Interesting, I didn't know it originally sounded like that. I thought the developer's of the game got the song and messed it up to sound more hellish.
The music is representing the state of everyone especially the 33rd. The army battalion is in distress and they are desperate to escape Dubai. The distorted anthem also reflects walker himself from how I conceive it. American anthem normally symbolises justice and good but it’s distorted here to possibly represent walker as well. Walker himself is believing what he is doing is right but is just pouring gasoline on what Conrad the fucking idiot did to Dubai already. By all means though, Conrad is the one who ruined the lives of millions and walker just happen to find himself in it because he admires Conrad too much. Kind of like how US invaded Afghanistan and they were just a small part of it since Middle East has been at war for ages already.
This game is great and I was thinking about it and to confirm my suspicion this is jimi hendrix playing at Woodstock I think the description says it that's sweet dude
Just very recently have I discovered this game. It's a shame that it was removed from Steam and I had to sail Seven Seas to find it. Because this current time and age sorely needs games that criticize wars and represent them the way they are, instead of pushing the glorified shooting galleries like Call of Duty and Battlefield. What I love about it is how your character mentally and physically deteriorates as the game progresses, and he in the end is in such a horrible state that you might as well call it horror game. And not just him, but also your squad mates, main menu screen, loading screen, even quest line and collectible intel all gradually stop sounding and looking professional and become grungy, rusted, mentally broken and angry. Loading screen especially horrified me because it at first represented itself as the average shooter tutorial, only to gradually start showing more and more deranged quotes and images, even breaking the 4th wall, and to finally show the black-and-white image of starving civilians with "twinkle twinkle little star" humming in the background. Not a single jumpscare with distorted sounds or rabid lovecraftian creatures. The only monsters in this game are humans, and especially the player character who is so hardly convinced that he is a hero.
I got the game as a gift from my aunt and she thought it be call of duty, ( the game I sadly was obsessed with at the time 😅) I kinda toss it to The side and didn’t think twice of it, never open. Once I turn thirteen I got tired of cod and saw spec ops and open it up and started to play it , it change something in me and it’s forever stuck in my brain as one of the best videos games hands down.
@@bustasmoke Indeed! Konrad even saved Walker, dragging him into a Humvee or a Chopper (idk) when he was injured. That's why Walker meat rides him so much in the game lol.
Had this playing in my head as I took down my American flag after last nights election results. We as a country chose hate and I refuse to fly the flag again until something changes with us as a nation.
@TheUnslainDragon you know what you're right. I will cry harder. I'm mostly sad for the people in red states who can't help themselves. In the end, you guys won. Democracy has spoken. I'm mad about it, but that's how the system is, and there's no one for us to blame but ourselves. I just hope you don't complain if things go wrong and it starts to affect you too.
