    My partner and I just started culturing Nannochloropsis Oculata but you're really selling me on starting a Tetraselmis culture!

      Tetraselmis is an awesome strain to culture yourself!

    Have been running a culture of Tetraselmis and Rhodomonas for months from TSA. The rhodomonas is just recently starting to finally color up during the growth cycle. The tank seems much cleaner and the corals pop since adding both for sure.

      Only use tetraselmis at the moment, not entirely sure what it's doing to my corals in my mixed reef. If corals aren't consuming it directly, my copepods are definitely reproducing thus corals and fish have more of a natural diet. That said will continue unless I don't see improvement in corals

      We highly recommend the addition of phytoplankton to your system, we are feeding it all the time around here at the farm facilities!

    I would listen to an hour about Tatraselmis. Way interesting.
    I've been brainstorming a new system and was thinking of incorporating phyto into it and this video had great timing to made me even more sure to incorporate it now. 👍🏻👍🏻

      Love to hear that! Glad this video was everything you were looking for! A great strain to add to your reef tanks at home no doubt!

    I have a question regarding culturing the phyto:
    Do you run the light 24/7 ?
    I just started my culture.. I only run my light 16 hours on and 8 hours off. Is this okay or should I run it for 24 hours on?
    Thanks for the awesome video and amazing info !

    If there's already bottled fatty acids and aminos, what's the benefit of dosing the live forms?

    Taras, I have a 2 1/2 yr old 40 gal. Gorgonian, softy, lps tank. Very minimalist, no skimmer and no mechanical filtration, 5 gallon water change per week. Dealing with dinos at the moment and would like to try using pods and phyto, do I need to be worried about what eventually happens to the phyto in my tank since it won't get skimmed out? Also, if I siphon the dinos out of the sand am I also siphoning out my pods? Really enjoy your videos!

      Your gorgonians, corals, and microfauna will surely enjoy the phytoplankton and it could be helpful dependent on what Dino strain you have, have you tried getting a sample under a microscope? We just did a video on Dinos that could be helpful!

    Can you operate a UV sterilizer and steal use this? I was wondering if because the UV kills it it loses all nutritional value?

    • @TopShelfAquatics
      @TopShelfAquatics  หลายเดือนก่อน

      The UV can be fairly harsh on the green phytoplankton and it generally doesn't fair well going through one.

      @@TopShelfAquatics That makes sense. Do you turn off your UV for 12 hours or something of the like after feeding phytoplankton? I know that TSA use to run monster UVs from some of the other farm videos. Thank you so much! I'm thinking about buying some and wanted to know how to work it. :)
