Began at the bottom and over a 20 year period became a supervisor, quality control manager to a team of ladies. My Grandma was born in 1900 in London, UK, so she left school at 12, but because of the law couldn't legally start work until 14. Grandma got pregnant with her second child and had to leave her position and not return. My Grandma earned more money than her husband. All very rare in those times. I remember as a child her Singer sewing machine in a room they called a kitchen. Mary was my first guide, then my other Grandma Grace and now it's my Dad. My other maternal Grandma also machined and sewed clothing for herself, my Mum and me. I have lots of memories of sewing and tailoring, professional and as a hobby.
