I am here on 19.07.23 Yesterday we said goodbye to Lester Sterling, saxophonist and founding member of the legendary band, The Skatalites, at his Service of Thanksgiving at the Holy Cross Church in Half Way Tree. It was his wish to buried in Jamaica after living in the United States for a number of years.
Lester ‘Ska’ Sterling was the last remaining member of the original Skatalites horns men. In 1988, he was awarded the Order of Distinction for his pioneering contribution to the development of Ska and Reggae music.
We are so pleased and thankful that his widow, Theresa, has donated the saxophone with which he made such great music to the Jamaica Music Museum.

NICE! The two of us dancing in the dining room of our very old house in the very north of the Netherlands, just after this upload by JAFET ELISEL started. Ha! Being a lover of many types of music since I could afford vinyl records at the age of 13 and being 70+ right now, Ska , Reggae and Son were my favourites and Disco as a student. And many, many more, from classical to nowadays music. Like Balkan!

We skanked all night long back in the 90s when The Skatalites came to town in Riverside, CA. I was one of the lucky few to get in to the shows at Spanky's Café and The Showcase in Corona. Thanks for the memories!
