- Here I revisit a spot I hunted once last year, and would like to hunt again this year if the acorn crop is good. This particular place is unique to the area, with a couple stands of mature Shumard oaks, which have been a great early season feed tree for me over the years. I’ve learn so much watching your video, this coming season is my second year hunting. Thank you for sharing
What we call woodsmanship. Being familiar with all of the pieces and parts of a forest and how they tie together. It’s what the newest generation of hunter sorely lacks. Just delighted to see teachers and influencers such as yourself re teaching the craft. Well done.
We always said our grandson has great teaching abilities, & so happy you saw it also.
Totally agree!! Not only is he a good hunter, but he is a great woodsman as well! Definitely a lost craft among my generation. Well done Catman!
Another excellent video Catman. One thing I do is lean at least 3-4 sticks up against the base of the tree.... like a tepee. It makes it easy to find when coming back in including in the dark. I usually use rotten limbs about the size of a mans arm and about 3-4’ tall. It’s amazing how much it helps and the will stand for a year or two. Good luck.
I used to always have good success hunting over dropping persimmon trees here in West Tennessee, but the past 10 years or so it's became more miss that hit for some reason.
Great hunting style , scouting for browse on different small woods plants like that. In river/wet zones orange jewel weed that is heavy browse a very easy way to judge deer numbers and traffic through an area they love the jewel weed!
Just recently started noticing browse on jewel weed. Was surprised they like it.
You always have good tips for the area we live in. What you see is what you get and I appreciate it.
Brother if I hunted in your part of the country, i don't think I'd be able to concentrate on anything but looking out for snakes!
Haha I hear ya. I thought that’s what he meant when he said look on the ground and in the trees. 😂 I’m not planning on scouting in the south without snake boots.
Gotta wear the snake waders- never know how big one will be and high they can strike! Part of living in the Deep South -Alabama
They won’t bother u unless u bother them. Pay attention
Like early scouting always love to fine new tree's to try and hunt on. Deep in south were I am post-oak is first acorn tree to drop.
Nuttall is by far the deer favorite acorns and they drop early as well ! I always bow hunt over nuttall !
Good hunting so I’ll wish you good luck!
Chanterelles been popping up in st louis area for couple weeks now, super early!
Remember you can carry a lot more mushrooms by filling your hat 😁
Thanks for the web address on discussion on identifying oak trees. You should try the Bankhead National Forest in north Alabama. They have a lot of big mature bucks. John 14:6
Love content. Great information!
The Catman on the prowl, these🦌are in trouble in his area.👊🏽They have a future date on the Catman’s dinner table!👍🏽
I also have the plant identification app called PictureThis. According to the paused section of the video that I took a picture of, it's call Jack-in-the-pulpit plant. Others common names of the plant are Indian Turnip, Bog Onion, Brown Dragon, and American wake robin.
It’s not jack in the pulpit, I’ve seen plenty of that
@@CatmanOutdoors try the PictureThis app. If it is a clear photo it finds the match nearly everytime.
Need to do a session on tree, plant identification in Tennessee
Love your scouting vids Cat. I wish you’d come down to North Alabama and help me scout some of this NF land.
Thank you man , Great information,, learned a lot from your knowledge,, loved it !! Good luck brother!! Hard work definitely pays off in everything you do in life!! Later,,
Chanterelles! If you are finding them in your area that means its time for me to get out there.
As young as you are. You should put out some crab apple trees.
Hello from Ozark Missouri!
Catman, could you tell me your opinion of the best size, weight of the three types of catfish that are the best for eating? Thanks for all the information that you share.
Great info catman, I'm surprised you don't ginseng hunt man
This old boy from Nebraska understands lobed white and sharp red oak but are white oaks so named because of the bark? Video went a little fast for me to sort out difference. I usually wait until last week of October first week November but since I retired 4 years ago feel like I should get out while acorns are dropping. I’m public land an think SE Nebraska has predominantly Burr oaks
What part of Tennessee are you at dude , thanks for the info didn’t know about those oaks got them here on my place
Where you at in TN ?
And look down for snakes 🐍
how do you identify Shumard oaks?
watch the ground for snakes too
👍
also is that unidentifiable plant Garlic mustard?
It’s not garlic mustard, although that is pretty common around here in the spring.
Watch out for big foot
It's called ginsing
Wrong leaf count
Where is your lady friend at we've not seen her in your last video's
catman, here's an advice, i love your channel, but lately you been turning your video too fast causing viewers to be nauseous..
