Had the watch 2 years and didn't know that you could do this. Thanks.
Cheers! Just bought the Fenix 5x,great watch, just don't know how to use it!! Your videos are very helpful, thank you.
Can I do this without being on an activity? Also, what numbers do I use to find my grid on a map? There’s a lot of numbers there
Thanks Gordon👍👍👍
Excellent. Pity the Garmin manual doesn't explain this.
Great video, thanks. I am thinking of getting a second hand garmin watch. I want it really just to check BNG as reference, a few times a day (not to have constantly tracking), so would I be right in thinking the battery life would be pretty good in this case? Is there a minimum spec watch you'd advise? As I've seen quite varied prices with different satellite connectivity. Thanks
Thanks , any of the fenix range will do what you require, if you set up save location as a hot key shortcut, this will be the quickest and easiest way to display you grid location, if your after a cheaper option I believe the garmin instinct will also do this
At sec41 you show a screen with the grid coordinates & elevation. You say you have set this up. My 5x doesn’t have this screen. How do I set the map co-odds & elevation screen up?
Hi, thank you for the video, I actually have a Garmin Fenix 6 sapphire, however, all settings on Garmin are very similar. Can you please help me with the dual grid on how to keep it on display? as when it's activated on the ground it seems to return to my watch face having me press the GPS button again for coordinates which is not beneficial for my line of work. Many thanks I will look forward to your response.
Sounds like you are saving a position, You’ll have to be recording an activity for it to remain on the screen , if you just record position it will record that position momentarily and then return to the watch face.
You the man!🤝

Super clear. Thank you. Am looking for a new watch with grid refs that are accessible during activity recording - can you reccomend options pls?
All the Fenix line can display grid references during an activity, so choose the watch that best suits your needs , for me it will be the 6X pro because of the large screen size
Is it not possible to get your grid position outside of the hiking activity?
For example if you’re just in watch mode
Yes it’s possible to set one of the shortcut buttons to either save location or MOB (man overboard) both of which will show your location
possible for mapping on fenix 3?
Can I create a watch face that displays both GPS coordinates (whilst GPS is turned on obviously) as well as time one one screen at the same time?
You just need to create data screen that shows the information you require, it will zap the battery though , as GPS will be enabled.
Thanks for the video!! I'm having some battery draining. didn't know if is due to wrong positioning format . I live in Catalonia if you know the right one for my location will be very helpful. Thanks in advance.
I don’t think the positioning format will affect the battery life , check to see if the backlight settings are set to on all the time , and reduce the brightness , the battery should last at least a week with using GPS activities every day
@@hilux58 Thanks for your answer, don't know about screen bright setting. But backlight setting is at 10% bright and activated only when I push the button. One day normally consum 7% with HR all time and steps counter activate. please If there is screen bright setting let me know. Thanks
There’s no screen brightness setting , with the battery life drain you describe, it seems to be getting about 14 days of charge with 7% drain per which is about normal really , is the watch a 6 or a 6X
@@hilux58 Thanks for your reply my watch is Fénix 5 I bought used 10/10 condition. But ... Only good knows about how many charges have the battery.
14 days is pretty good for a fenix 5 , considering the 6X pro is rated for 21 days , I’d say your battery life is ok 👍
Hi mate I'm trying to add GR to my app (hike) but can't find it in settings even in other settings.
Thank you
Do any of these watches use mils or do they only use degrees?
Yes they use a variety of grid units , all fenix models since the fenix 3 do this
@@hilux58 I've tried with my Instinct Tactical but I can't find a setting to show the coordinates in mils. I want to use OS maps with mils but it only seems to show my coordinates in degrees. I can set the compass to mils but that's no good when I can't see my own coordinates.
You can setup a data field on your watch to display both the bearing in mils from the compass and your OS position
@@hilux58 But your OS position will be in degrees won't it? I'm gonna try again see if it's possible
Can you give me a reference as to what your using it for , is it for tactical ballistics , there maybe a Garmin IQ data field that will do what you need
Why is it 5 figures? Used 4 and 6
Hi , the Fenix displays a 10 digit OS grid reference which is accurate to a 1M square, you should find it more accurate than a 4 or 6 figure reference the 6 digit is accurate within a 100 meter square
@@hilux58
Hi, do you know of any Garmin devices that have 12 digit os grid references? Also, does the grid reference you show take you to Cook's Cairn, Highland? Thanks
Cameron Pack 10 digit is the maximum of any GPS watch I know of , its accurate down to 1m2 so should be accurate enough.
@@hilux58 thanks, I've seen this is to bgr which has two letters which represent two numbers for the grid square that the other 10 digits refer to. Many thanks 👍
Really appreciated this. Had to change another setting on my fenix 7 but it now works a treat. Instant Grid locations.
