Cell extractions are a necessary de-escalation method employed when inmates refuse to adhere to correctional policy or direct instruction from authority. An inmate refusing to be restrained and initiating conflict from his individual cell infects the entire pod and emboldens his “fellow residents,” often resulting in flooding of the tiers, destruction of state property, and the setting of fires. If all officers in Eastham just said, “oh, alright. Let me know when I can come back” upon an inmate’s refusal to accept restraints, they would lose control of not just the pod but the entire unit immediately. Cell extractions are inherently physical but they are a necessary tool in operating any detention facility (whether it be a county jail, state jail, state/federal prison, or forensic psychiatric hospital). Not only are officers made aware of the potential dangers associated with cell extractions (and more generally simply working in a prison), but the dedicated cell extraction teams are acutely aware that risk accompanies what they are voluntarily participating in. This is a tragedy no doubt but it is not at all “indicative” of any corruption, conspiracy, or negligence on behalf of TDCJ or The State. There is a reason this story still captures headlines and that is because it is a tremendously unusual outcome.

Cell extraction as you say is not voluntary in the field. A extraction consist of measures and quite a few before you even go into a cell.

Anyone who dares to work in any prison system needs to find another means of employment. Especially, when dealing with TDCJ. I went through the system years ago at the Connally Unit. I witnessed the escape of the Texas Seven. The corruption I've seen still amazes me to this day. It's a free for all and life or death once you get in there. I really should write a book.

Ex employee of tdcj and federal bureau of prisons the government.
The federal prison system is more corrupt gping up to wardens, assistant wardens to the rank.
In both systems there is that good ole boy clique buddy system.
They do not like it when you question matters when it spoken verbally in tdcj. It is suppose to be on paper the policy. It is not suppose to be just verbal.
In both tdcj and thecfederal they are short on guards endangering both guards and inmates.
A guard is nit suppose to die or get killed on abstraction of an inmate.

I just recently got out of TDC and I'm telling they do not care about inmate or officers. I've seen so much in there this time around and truly disappointed on how things there are kept from the public. Plane State jail and Carol young medical unit someone needs to go in unexpected and see what we all see there. I've seen inmates dying at Carol young and laying in soil in their own urine and crap and hear them say no you can't help clean it up. People are human no matter what they do. There is some officers that care about rehabilitation and some it's just a paycheck. Texas doesn't care I promise you not even about their employees

However, they are still humans who are hurt & broken...Some guards are disrespectful and hateful...🫤 and treat the inmates horribly. We can't look down on no one, regardless! God loves all people of all colors and backgrounds. We need to show love & respect towards each other whether in prison or not. Spread love and not hate! The world has enough hate! 🤨
