Patrick Charton, un Hommage

Patrick Charton was not only one of the greatest luthiers of our time, he was first and foremost a wonderful man, a true friend, an example for all who knew him.
As a bass maker, no challenge was beyond his open mind and his inventiveness. When i threw crazy ideas at him, he never pronounced the word "impossible". Rather, he added some even crazier ideas of his own and made them work. I cherish the two basses he built for me to my own specifications, and when i play them, Patrick is still there. Listening, watching over me, encouraging me.
His friendship was simple, honest, and pure. The kind of guy you could count on at any time. Patrick was an educated man with many interests. We could talk about almost any subject and i always came away a richer man.
We will always remember him, his smile, his positive attitude, his craft and artistry. When we think of him, we can still hear his "Excellent, excellent!" resonate in our minds.
Merci Patrick. Tu nous manques.

Yes he was. Hardly a day goes by without us thinking of him. His picture is hanging on our wall, and he continues to inspire me. Grateful to have known him.
