- Hidden in the rock structures of the ancient Turkish region of Cappadocia, some of the world’s oldest Christian churches are carved in stone. The Göreme Open Air Museum is a cluster of chapels, monasteries and churches that date back to the 4th century. These unique stone structures, formed from a 2.6 million-year-old volcanic eruption, house 10 separate churches that make up the museum. Inside each church, Byzantine-era frescoes adorn the walls. Thanks to its extensive history and unique geology, the Göreme Open Air Museum became one of Turkey’s first two places to be designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Did the Christians build the first Churches in 4th century ? Or did I don't get it?
uA muenchen there was large christian population in middle east during 4th century until they were driven out by islamic expansion, this is why most surviving churches in the middle east are the ones which are hidden or secluded.
Christians were the majority in the region till about the 1300s from around the 4th century onwards.
Islamic expansionism ended that
one day we take these places back

Instead of fighting, let’s focus on getting to know religions first.
didn't knew turkey got a Christian past.
Are u being serious?
what you taught that islam is from begining of the world, it's youngest monotheistic religion, and it's a bad copy of Christianity
@@marybee1594 Bad copy? Where did you get that from? We literally don’t drink alcohol, don’t have weird denominations like Evangelists, and Islam is the bad copy?
Eastern Roman empire covered Turkey before
Armenian Churches*
At the time it was the eastern Roman Empire, so Byzantine orthodox
there are turkish churches as well
Greek
That Church had no Icon in the Christian era. When the byzantine and ottoman empire conquered turkey there Orthodox people began to place icons on the former Christian Church ... Christians in the First Century Have No Icon
That is not true. Other than the icons drawn by St. Luke. You have the christian frescos in the catacombs. However I think the bigger issue you are trying to draw at is that you don't believe in the use of icons. I would presume this is because you are protestant. I would encourage to reflect on your faith, study christian history and what early christians believed and what the apostles taught, where the Holy Bible came from/ and how it was compiled. I will think after a while it will become clear that historically speaking and after learn the faith of the apostles, You will see how false protestant doctrines are.
I think those were Armenian churches
Aram Baghsarian Its orthodox churches
Panagiotis Stathatos i know
Aram Baghsarian you're correct
Aram Baghsarian Cappadocia is in turkey?
No, those were orthodox churches.
...It's pronounced Cappado-SHA, not Cappado-KIA. *facepalms*
Kerian Halcyon
It could be the Greek vs the Latin pronunciation perhaps.
In turkish we say cappado-kia
Kerian Halcyon In greece its called Kapado-kia
thats how you say it in Turkish
Lol no it's correct how he pronounces it.
