Love you guys and the coverage. Would love to see the whole cards scoreboard at least when they start putting, miss seeing it all at the same time during play.
I don't understand why a lot of courses make the rough OB. Especially here, the rough is so challenging that it would basically act like an OB stroke, but there's always the chance of an incredible shot out of the woods or a putt through an impossible gap. Why take that element of the game away? Other than that, this course is super fun to watch, and I'm super excited to watch the coverage, it's just that one little thing that always bothers me.
Probably because people would whine about having to play in the thorns here in Austin. But I agree with you; the best OB is enforced by the course itself, not by the rulebook.
Some woods have a lot of thorns, and it's better to mark them as OB. That said, there were a fair number of clearly arbitrary OB areas marked off that (I think) made certain landing zones or areas basically not worth going for. This leads to less interesting disc golf in my opinion. Definitely bring the challenge, but give the players more leeway to throw exciting shots.
Although I agree with what you’re saying, I played on a course recently that had a lot of OB and I remember telling someone else complaining about this exact thing, the OB plays a part on the mental game on top of the course due to shot selection and all that. Its an extra factor to consider
I think it's good to have tough courses like this on tour that aren't just races. People can relate more with the struggles 😅 and it makes the birdies that much more spectacular.
@@dogma8073 think without the insane wind it's not actually that bad. We saw a ton of -3 and a few -5 scores in round 1, everyone is easily 2 strokes better or more without that wind

I know I’m super tardy to the party, but I’ll still say this: I actually think it’s refreshing to see a course - and an event - that doesn’t just hand out birdies every hole. Anyway; love y’all and continue the 10/10 coverage!

5:43 If you want to see Simon’s line on hole 1, you should mention Gatekeeper’s coverage, which includes Simon’s shot. It’s great that there is so much coverage.
As someone who has been to Antarctica multiple times.... Nate is right, you don't want to go there. Maybe once but that's enough. There are actually a few disc golf courses on the continent. I've played the "course" at McMurdo Station; between the wind and dodging heavy vehicles I might give it a pass
I like the idea of making a course where par can be a good score. But risk-reward is better to watch than a hole where almost everyone is laying up from 100'. Seems like too many holes where only the most elite distance players can theoretically birdie and it might not be worth trying to.
I think this is a great encapsulation of the problems on this particular set of layouts on this course. I think the course has a ton of potential, and I hope there are lessons learned in case the tour returns here next year.
Last week I get. He won Waco last year. This week, I have no proof other than what I see, but did you notice, all 4 post coverage channels had Lonestar members. I smell a payoff.
I love this sport so much. I always look forward to Jomez coverage and really only watch the other companies while I'm waiting on these to drop. No slight to them, just that Jomez has BigSexyBarri and they are unmatched for commentary.
Without the wind I feel like this course is really awesome. Kyle hitting that birdie on hole 9 just feels so much more consequential and important than normal. And bogeys feel like a huge detriment to your tournament
I've never been a fan of the three commentators set up, but Sexton teaching Uli about Antartic fauna was as good as any exchange ever aired on this channel.
Honestly, I appreciate the change of pace this challenging course provides since obtaining "par" actually means something now. I'll take this over a birdie fest every day of the week.
He’s always tried to bottle it up when on camera. There’s nothing new here to see. If he’s annoyed enough he’ll still snap… it just might take slightly longer now.
I think the best thing I can say about this course is that the land is available to make future improvements. When it’s refined it should probably look unrecognizable to its current state.

I have to admit, I kind of like the course. It isn't super polished and it could be improved in minor ways, but it's nice to see pros getting punished for being overaggressive and constantly trying to rip 600-foot turnovers in windy conditions with tight fairways. There were plenty of bogies that could have been pars if they had just thrown more conservative shots. It puts more pressure on the players' decision-making skills, which I like to see! :)
Uli looks exhausted. Hope you're taking care of yourself brother! Don't mean it as an insult. I'm still counting on you winning a major! Can't wait for the day! 😁🥏🥏🥏
I just started watching this but I'm proud to say I'd probably score pretty similar to these guys through 2 just because I'd throw like half the distance but I wouldn't reach ob 🤧
I must say I enjoyed seeing Nikko check that anger on hole 6. He's maturing. Mental game is tough sometimes and I think if he gets his head right he's got real champion potential.
Hole 4 is an example of course design encouraging the rules not mattering. There are no mandatories on the hole, the second shot basically requires the player to commit a stance violation to throw to the “second landing area”. If you draw a line from the pole directly to the player’s lie that’s where the stance area is… they’re all running up toward where they are throwing while the basket is to their left, basically.
