Dev Anand was always second billed in films starring Suraiya and for this reason he established his own production company Navketan Films, giving opportunities to directors like Raj Khosla, Guru Dutt and his brother Vijay. For her Nani, Suraiya was a "hen that laid golden eggs." She was already an established star, beautifil and good actress, and an exceptionally talented singer. Nani wasn't about to let her fly the coup. Religion was probably only used as an excuse.

Suraiyyaji was eager to meet Dev sahab..but Dev sahab was not...After a long span of intervel while she received life time achievement award reports say she attended because some reporters told her Dev sahab also attending..She reported to have cried when she realised he was not attending.....She was great epitome of principle and dignity and honesty...

Dev Anand and loser ? He remained married to his wife for 55 years till his death in 2011. Suraiya withered out of the limelight before even the 60s began. If she had the conviction, why didn't she fight back against her family to marry the guy she loved like Nargis Dutt did for Sunil Dutt. Dev Anand had to back out to maintain stability as he was aware of the conservative sentiments of the muslim community. It's Suraiya who's a loser.
Suraiyyaji career gone down in 1955. Dev Sahab remained evergreen actor till the end. Then who is the looser?
