- The origin of this compilation video is simply that I wanted a complete version of the soundtrack to listen to in the background while I was working, but could only find individual tracks on TH-cam. Thanks to SquareEnix for letting people like me enjoy this classic RPG music.

I'm 50 years old. I've heard a lot. And I listen to a lot. And this particular remaster that we're listening to now is the best I've ever heard. Hands down

Im not a gamer person..most of my life I let a looot of games by the midle. But recently I watch someone reacting to FF ost... I was like OMG that is from a videogame!? I MUST play it. So here I am, just ended the opera part(snes ver). This game is too much, even has the art of Amano, my favourite illustrator. This one, Im gonna play it till the end.

Nobuo Uematsu is a damn genius. Magitek Research Facility is one of the coolest compositions I've ever heard in a video game.

The person in charge of remastering this soundtrack must have had a buddy that played the saxophone. It’s very prominent in some spots. Heck, the Narshe music now sounds like soft jazz. 😊

Terra's theme is special.... struck a chord the very first time I heard it... melancholy yet hopeful... helped me through a rough patch. This remix does her theme justice.
Best character theme in the series along with Aerith's.
Seriously this theme is so powerful I was listening to it long before I even played FF6.
@shishinonaito imo it's one of the weaker FF6 character themes it's still good but
I prefer a majority of the others and I definitely don't find it as meaningful or emotionally impactful as Celes's
Also its held back by it only really one by name it's never used for Terra in game to the point where I don't even get why it's her theme it feels irrelevant to her

I remembered that I got goosebumps when I saw tiny pixels characters singing an opera on the stage.... 😭
It was 30 years ago.
You know, my grandma was the typical "why do kids play videogames instead of going outside?" type of grandma, but she loved music. I played FF3/6 at her house while my mom was working late, and when the opera section started she stopped, sat down, and just watched and listened.
She said she had no idea video games could have such pretty music and stories. I think my grandma changed a bit that day. It was an awesome moment. Also close to 30 years ago 🥲

I believe the video games that we played when we were kids are still standing out from those in nowadays, in the point of making concepts and creating sounds.
It's because they couldn't depend on the super real graphic at that time and the development environment were very limited.

i have said it multiple times and ill say it again. Final Fantasy VI has the best video game soundtrack of all time.
I played the game recently and absolutely loved the game. But i dont thinl its nowhere near as good as other final fantasy games. Maybe its part nostalgia? I think FF9 has the best and that game was part of my childhood.
I think FFVII has somewhat higher high marks than FFVI does, but FFVI is a more consistent (if shorter) soundtrack overall than FFVII. Really not a single "just okay" track on the OST.

Dang it, I didn't expect the remaster soundtrack to be this different. One reason more to buy the PS4 bundle.
It's insane to me that Square didn't release these soundtracks physically. Not even in Japan.
Right? I was still wondering whether or not buy the bundle, but this is just astonishing and makes a huge difference. After finding this video I don't understand why SE doesn't advertise the arranged soundtracks more intensely.
At least it’s not like dragon quest where they lock the orchestral arrangements under a cd separate from the game

I actually got goosebumps. I've always wanted the music to FFVI to get treatment like this. In fact, the music getting redone was much MUCH more important than the actual visuals. The music tells the story sooooo much in so many ways. Now more than ever I understand why people regard the FFVI ost as one of the greatest in gaming ever.

One of the vocals in Techno de Chocobo sounds just like a part in the Haruhi Suzumiya OST where they sing "SOS."

I'm strongly interested on how the track "the magic house" was impacted by zeitgeist shift. In the old version the feeling is different from the new one, that was totally influenced by the Harry Potter movies (just listen to strings and winds sections).

I like what they tried to do, but the mixed quality of the tracks (e.g., you get full orchestral awesomeness on one track, then some cheap synthesizer noise on Metamorphosis) really did this a disservice. Or the songs were "re-interpreted" and no longer fit the game section they're used in (the Narshe theme, in particular, now belongs in a 1980s softcore porn movie and Slam Shuffle is just stupid and synthy; it's like circus music now instead of being the soundtrack to a seedy town full of thieves and liars...yet another fail from Kataoka, who wasn't content with fucking up Narshe's theme).
If they'd tighten this up and kick Kataoka out, this could be the best OST ever made in the history of video games.
I'm hoping Square Enix uploads these remastered versions on youtube or spotify at some point.

Nope, samples have just gotten a lot better since the 90s! There are a few tracks where you can hear they recorded a soloist, like the sax for Narshe and Zozo or the whistling for Shadow's theme or the trumpet in the regular battle theme. Some of the string orchestra and brass lines also sound like they're recorded by live musicians, but most of the music is still samples. It's a cool technique called hybrid scoring where recording some of the instruments live makes the sampled stuff sound more real.

Call me slow, but until now i noticed Sabin's techniques are all based on Hokuto no Ken:
His Pummel is Hokuto Hyakurersu Ken
His Aura Bolt is Tenha Kassatsu
And Bum Rush is Musou Tensei
It's mostly very good, I do miss some of the original synth instruments though, specifically the fretless(?) bass

Terra's theme no banjo, 0/5
Some sound really nice, like Relm's theme. But others are poorly mixed like Mines of Narshe. Kefka's Tower is too noisy so I can't pick out the instruments hardly at all. There's too much reverb on a lot of instruments as well.
What? The mines of Narshe is sooo amazing and JAZZY!!! It’s sooo catchy and chill! I almost never wanted to leave this cave.
