    It's going to be beautiful - can't wait to see it finished. Big cheer for Simon! Andrea, the garden is really coming along thanks to you and your mum, and let's not forget Omar, earning the money to pay for the build. Wishing you much love and happiness.

    Your flowers are beautiful! The corn looks good. Corn usually grows quickly. Idea: if you put your courgettes in the food processor, put them in zip lock bags - 8 ounces per bag - then throw them in the freezer. During the winter, you'll have enough to make a sweet bread, we call it zucchini bread, which is lovely to have with tea or toasted for breakfast. Do the same with carrots and make carrot bread. Yummy!

    Very well done, Adrea! I assembled two very large, flat pack (not Ikea) cupboards decades ago. One is fine, the other - well I can get the doors to close, but they are definitely not square. I have lived with that for over 20 years. It's fine. You are just practicing for your real kitchen!

    When harvesting carrots. If you push them down before you try to pull them out, it loosens the soil around the carrot and it is much easier to pull them out.

From where I sit you approach your tasks believing in yourself and only waver when you see results that aren’t perfect. But you always problem solve out of the dilemma. You should look into doing a traditional Haudenesaunee style Three Sisters garden! Basically you co-plant corn, beans, and squash in the same plot. They all help each other grow - corn provides the structure for the beans, and the squash shades the soil to help keep it moist.

    When you plant try to put water on the earth before you put down the plant not after. That way your plant get the water and not the seeds of weeds. My Mom had a cookbook that was just zucchini. Most often she used it in zucchini bread, or chocolate cake. My aunt makes them into "noodles ". I have also made a custard pie with zucchini. And of course there's always vegetable soup, and stir fries. Fruit leather I would blend with another fruit, like plumes or strawberries. I'm trying to remember what exactly went in the apple, tomato, zucchini muffins; I want to say apple pie spice? You could probably add carrots and zucchini to the tomato soup cake? That would be good with snickerdoodle hummus. Dehydrated as chips, and as pickles were my other thoughts, but I don't think I actually liked them, but everyone is different and your family might.
    Anyone else have zucchini recipes to add?

    • @TheIndigoEscape
      @TheIndigoEscape  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @joantrotter3005 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TheIndigoEscape, we were especially fond of it in chocolate cake! And the tomato soup cake tastes more like a spicy fruit cake, not how we normally think of tomatoes tasting. There was an ice cream up in Washington state years ago that was tomato, and I thought it tasted more like strawberry but not quite? And carrot puree works well in Mac and Cheese. Grow the next carrots in the sandiest soil that nothing else will grow in. Do you guys eat coleslaw? I have a good sauce if you want the recipe.

    Hi Andrea I saw an old video of you with two fantastic carpenters Josh and Manuel. Another YT Make Do Grow are looking for carpenters and somebody who can do roof tiling. I know they are also in Central Portugal. Maybe these two carpenters can do the job. Have a great week to all of you. Granny South Africa❤

      I'm not sure if Jos and Manel would be able to go as far as Serta, where MDG are based. That would be a 1- hour drive one way. You could mention it to them and see if they want to seek contact.

    It's all coming along nicely. The stone wall in the kitchen will look great. I'm just a bit confused though, will you have to go outside to get to the bedroom ? There doesn't seem to be a door leading from the kitchen.

    I was wondering if you have anymore old roof tiles. If you do, you could just keep adding them on top the ones you have in your garden beds to heighten them and keep building up your soil. Add all your sawdust to your soil as well as it open it up more

    • @TheIndigoEscape
      @TheIndigoEscape  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      We do but Im not sure if I will use them for the beds anymore because when it rains, the water sits for ages as you have to bury the tiles. Brilliant for the summer, not so much during the spring. Some plants died like that :/
      It is also frankly a lot of work to place them. Im thinking more in the winter to raise the beds with heat treated wood.

    I have been wanting to ask this for a while. Are those oranges/ citrus on the tree edible, because every once in a while I see a bag of oranges on the kitchen counter. Made we wonder. But also want to say at 19.17 in this video you can really imagine what your new part of the complex will be like. Looks lovely. Good job all four of you.

      Hey! No, unfortunately they are ornamental oranges. I dont understand the function of an ornamental fruit tree... but here we are. The smell is delicious but dont be fooled! The insides are of a light orange to yellow and has the worst taste ever. I think a Lemon would be better to eat it right up than one of these oranges...

    • @TheIndigoEscape
      @TheIndigoEscape  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Because one room is a bedroom and we wanted to keep separate for privacy and the other room is a dining room/kitchen. We could have added a door inside towards the room but then the layout would have suffered.

    Cuppla comments, which you *might* not like....so apologies in advance. Andrea I understand you need to feel like you are doing stuff, and you need to produce footage for the weekly videos, but rushing in where fools fear to tread will always end in tears. As you've found.
    That 'burned' edge of the table extension could simply have been planed with a hand plane or an electric planer. Pretty sure you've got at least one of them..?? If not, I know you have a belt sander, so that would have done a better job quicker than that lightweight finishing sander you used. If you worry about rounding the edges over, using the big belt sander, an old chippies trick is to clamp the job piece in between two bits of similar size scrap, so the wide bed of the sander goes out at each side onto the scrap, keeping the main part flat, without rounding over the edges on things like that table edge.
    While that aluminium extrusion (was that the word you were looking for) is ok for the job, you could have installed it a bit better, making it flush with the surface. Not sure if you'd be brave enough to do this yet, but it is simple enough if you set it up carefully in the shed, on the bench, and measure everything very carefully, but what you need to do is to use a small router to cut a small amount out of the surface of the benchtop so the 'T' of the extrusion can sit down flush with the surface of the bench. You probably still could do that.
    And now I've pointed it out, every time you look at it, you will curse!
    The bathroom cupboard...?? Shit happens. Simon was of course correct, make the doors fit so that when you look at them from the other room, they look square.
    But it helps before you start on such a job in future to double check that the sides are parallel to each other and that the internal corners are square. You "assumed" they were, and so the door didn't fit. And every time you "assume"......you make an 'ass' out of 'you' and 'me'..!
    Finally, something to show off to Simon. He was giving you a lesson in the use of a plumb bob. Did he tell you why it's called a plumb bob?
    Because back in the day, when the Roman engineers (who invented it) made theirs, they used the most available metal - lead. And lead in Latin is plumbum. You will note lead's abbreviation in the Periodic Table is 'Pb', which is also from plumbum. So plumbum, over time, became 'plumb bob'. And even though Simon's is made from brass, originally, it was a lead weight.
    And the 'straight vertically' that you check with a spirit level is called getting the surface 'plumb', while a horizontal surface is made 'level'.
    And the term 'plumb' comes from..??? You guessed it, the Romans 'plumbum'.
    So, ask Simon if he knows this, and if not, show off a bit.... [wink]

      Hi Mark,
      I appreciate the comment. To be honest, it was more to get some more things done before Omar came back. Yes, it is also about making content and do want to feel valuable as well here by doing the smaller jobs I can do myself. Im unlikely to achieve 99% first time around and Im almost okay with that. Unfortunately, We don't have a planer and we also don't have a belt sander. We brought one from the UK but it doesn't work. If I did, it's very likely I would have used those tools instead as they are much better. The burn marked it's almost gone but I really don't mind how little it shows.
      I think if we had more tools some of the finishes can be a lot slicker.
      Thanks for the Roman fact, I will be sharing with Omar and Simon tomorrow!
