awesome !! that will really help me out.. Im actually looking for a mic to be used on a jazz bass drum tuned very high with lots of mids and tones... which one mic would I need to match my pre amps? please... im using scarlette 18i20 gen3 & the Clarett 8pre
+Bert-pd3ct Thanks so much Bert. Well I have a cheat with that...when in conversation face to face, you don't have the benefit of jump cuts or multiple takes...with these videos I do. =) So it really is mainly the format that allows me to keep anything interesting. HAHA! Thank you so much though!
Hi Bandrew. I am using a microphone with a frequency response of 80Hz to 12kHz, and in post processing I apply bass roll off at 60Hz. Why do I hear changes in audio? Meaning that there is a low cut which I can hear after applying the EQ. Isn't it supposed to give no effects since 60Hz is outside the frequency response? Thanks.
+Podcastage no problem! Keep doing what you do man, I have a question. I am currently using the blue yeti (yes I fell in that trap), and been playing with an EQ with DAWs (Ableton and reaper) to kind of emulate the crisp sound I'm looking for. The sound I'm trying to achieve is like the shure sm7b (the mic I believe you are using), that they use on "Hot 97, Sway in the Morning." The lows are incredibly boosted if I'm not mistaken but I really like that full almost 'NPR' sound. I want to be able to achieve that sound with a fair budget ($150-225) including the audio interface. Been considering a few different mics, but now that I see all these great sub $20 mics on your channel, would I be able to buy an exceptional audio interface with a built in EQ, and just boost the range with one of those? Just curious.
King F/A That's absolutely one way to do it. You may be able to get away with something like the Pyle PDMIC58, Shure SM48, or Shure SM58 and a $100 interface. You could just do some subtractive eq to shape the sound a bit in the DAW. I haven't done too much testing of different usb interfaces really...I mainly did the research for what I got and that's it.
Good video & explanation of sound waves & frequencies. The difficult part to understand is how sound is picked up by the mic, transmitted as an electrical current & then reconfigured back to sound again, or something like that............. :)
What would you say the best budget mic is for filming skits where the mic is farther, voice-overs, recording while gaming, and just other general usage ?
can you not manipulate an EQ curve to totally cancel out the frequency response of a microphone? i.e. make it totally flat so boost all the areas where the response graph dips below the centre line and cut all the areas where it surpasses it.
Bro a headphone has 5hz - 23000hz where as another headphone has 18hz - 23000 hz. If both headphones are bass focused and use same type of spares and all. Then which will be enrich in BASS?
This is not quite correct as you are confusing frequency range with frequency response. The response is a description of those frequencies within the range which the microphone is more or less sensitive to compared to other frequencies. So a completely flat response implies all frequencies which are capable of being recorded by the mic are done so at one equal sound level comparatively.
One more explanation video needed. What is low end? What is high end? I cant find much difference in voice when you pull down the low end, and no difference when u pulled high end?
+MutualGrid Photoshop Tutorials I don't know what else to tell you or how else to explain it. @3:50, I start to cut the LOW END frequencies pretty drastically and if you can't tell a difference when I get up near 500 Hz, I don't know what to tell you. @4:32, I start to cut the HIGH END frequencies really drastically down to 4000 Hz, and if you can't tell a difference, I don't know what to tell you. I legitimately have no way of explaining it any better than this demonstration at the time codes I listed.
This is from a year ago, so you probably figured this out by now, but I'll leave this here for anyone else scrolling through these old comment threads. Basically, if you couldn't tell any difference when he was cutting back on the high or low end of his voice, then that means you have either some pretty serious problems with your ears, or a really poor set of speakers / headphones. High end means sounds closer in pitch to the highest frequencies humans can here, and vice versa for the low end. So if you could tell no difference when he was cutting out the high and low end sounds then that means that your ears are damaged to the point that they can't pick up sounds of particularly high and low frequencies, or that your speakers are bad enough to only be able to put out a very limited frequency range.
+BuzzDrew_In Are you plugging the 3.5mm jack directly into your computer? If you are then your input gain is set relatively high. That is most likely your issue. As I mention in the BM100 review video. I'm using a USB Audio Adapter, and that's probably the only thing that I am able to determine as different between our scenarios.
Yeah i'm plugged into the Sabrent Usb as well but have a small static sound within the background, I understand if you dont know, Much appreciated for help
Can you make a video explaining what does something mean in microphone specs? so we can know is it a good microphone just by looking and specs. just like this but for all of them.
+Sami-ul Hoque I would love to do some give aways, but I am still not at the point where I can afford it. On top of that, if I do a giveaway on youtube, I would need to look into legal stuff so I'm not held liable for any stuff. On top of those hurdles, giveaways typically just draw subscribers to the channel who don't care about the content or the videos or the community, they just want free stuff. So when you're doing a give away, it taints the audience with people who don't interact, and that's a HORRIBLE thing because that's what I really like about this community so far. So basically. It's a huge headache. But one day I'm sure I'll get there.
+Anusha Sivakumar If you're on mac I would recommend Garageband. It is super easy. I don't have a recommendation for windows since I have not recorded on a windows machine in over 10 years.
Podcastage No problem, with any other DAWs it's not really worth starting to learn or it's going to be way too difficult. FL Studio has quite a friendly interface and it's functionality is just as great as any other DAWs, rest depends on people's opinions and preferences.
--- 5:23 Really messed up there, you forgot to mention this only goes towards EQing --- Any 16 bit audio stream's ceiling is 0dB and it's going to be limited by that, trying to go over that is going to cause clipping (over the 0dB) and the audio will become distorted at that point, not regainable, cause you cannot make quality where it's not at, out of the blue - it'll be like polishing a turd and good luck with that. --- However this is avoidable if the audio is 32 bit it will save any sound above 0dB just fine and you won't lose quality in the end product (the audio file) // So in this case you can amplify it down the dB it is peaking over the 0dB and still maintain clear quality with no distortion and quality loss.
+Soop I assumed that was clear. During that portion, I'm talking about the tuning of the microphones EQ and not setting your input settings. I guess I was wrong.
Definition of frequency response with respect to micro phone "Range of sound wave that the diaphragm inside the microphone is going to capable of picking up"
+MutualGrid Photoshop Tutorials I received a lot of requests for this one and I didn't make note of it. Sorry if you feel like I have wronged you in some way by not mentioning you. I'm also sorry you didn't get anything out of this video. I did my best to break the theory and ideas down. I guess I have failed you on multiple fronts.
awesome !!
that will really help me out..

I ve been watching many of your videoclips.. dude, u r the best on TH-cam
Simple and to the point explanation of a complex subject. Kudos.
I already knew that but I still watched it. XD
Thanks for the explanation! Now I understand a bit more about mics, headsets, etc. Well, you learn something new everyday.
+Quocamole1206 That's the best thing to do. Learn something new every single day.
thanks for this educational video that really help understanding why I'm study the circuit of frequency response !!
very good explanation, fist part reminds me of my ham radio technical exam.
it is quite difficult to explain something, without losing interest
+Bert-pd3ct Thanks so much Bert. Well I have a cheat with that...when in conversation face to face, you don't have the benefit of jump cuts or multiple takes...with these videos I do. =) So it really is mainly the format that allows me to keep anything interesting. HAHA! Thank you so much though!
your video quality (Your Thumbnail and all that) led me to believe you were a massive youtuber well done, keep up the good work.
+Sami-ul Hoque You are too kind!
The online tone generator was like a hearing test lol. This also helped me understand what it means, thanks :D
They use tone generators just like that for hearing tests. =)
You deserve about 500k sub bro ;) ur awesome so i hope u'll grow up on youtube
+Marco Perazzolo Thanks so much. =)
Im a simple guy, I found good channel, I click subscribe
Thanks so much man!
Thanks.
If I’m remembering correctly the figure of 80hz - 12 kHz typically means those are frequencies before the frequencies decrease greater than 3db.
Thanks so much. It's really easy to understand when explaining with the microphone effects.
Thanks again for another great video. The tone generator and EQ sweeps really helped!
I love your channel man, literally been looking for a guy that reviews microphones like you for a long time!
+King F/A Well happy to help. =) Thanks so much for the kind words. =)

The yeti seems to have more high end than the SM7b. The Sm7b really rolls off frequencies around 18kHz.
+Podcastage ah I noticed that and thanks for the specifics! What interface are you using?
Nice, thanks! What software were u using for the eq?
Good video & explanation of sound waves & frequencies. The difficult part to understand is how sound is picked up by the mic, transmitted as an electrical current & then reconfigured back to sound again, or something like that............. :)
Trying to get a mic for my TH-cam channel, and your video has been so clear and interactive too. Thank you.
I wish they could teach us in these ways in our colleges. This is an interesting stuff. Thanks buddy
I actually learned something, great job.
+Aramis Awesome! Thank you!
so how's the good frequency response for headphone / speakers look like ?
You deserve a lot more subs!!! A lot more! I don't even care about my mic but I like your videos. Educational and funny.
+Yuanzhi Bao Thanks so much! I really appreciate that. =)
What would you say the best budget mic is for filming skits where the mic is farther, voice-overs, recording while gaming, and just other general usage ?
+Knucklehead Plays Check my shotgun mic review I did a few days ago. I think that would be your best option,.
+Podcastage thanks. I will definitely check that out
The good ol days. :’) usb sound cards, newer mics and dog shit usb to xlr cable reviews 😂 Those where the days man. Happy new year brother! 🎉

Hey,can u tell what's up with the 3db(gain) cut off on a frequency response.
What is this softwear you are using for this frequency cutting??
Bro a headphone has 5hz - 23000hz where as another headphone has 18hz - 23000 hz. If both headphones are bass focused and use same type of spares and all. Then which will be enrich in BASS?
Thanks for the video. It was really informative.
Great video man! I was just wondering though? What mic are you using?
+Mike Doherty Thanks MIKE! And it's the Shure SM7b.
This was beautiful. Thank you.

Sorry to bug you, I was just wondering if you know how to remove Microphone Static, Since I use the BM100-FX

+Chempo Sure. The one problem is that it will probably be extremely long.
+Podcastage wow thx for quick reply. keep up with your videos. they are really helpful
+Podcastage you can make for each separate video.
That may be how it has to be done.
+Podcastage make a mini-series with a playlist :D
nt1 vs c414 frequency response review and if possible compare it with tlm 103
good explanations on frequencies nice ..
what mic ur using in vid? i booked fifine mic is it good?
What software are you using?
veru Logic
super helpful, thank you good sir!
Great video m8
What daw were you using when you were eq ing?
Thanks, I actually understood that.
Awesome man! That's what I like to hear. =)
Is the NT-USB a good microphone according to frequency response?
