Thanks for the hint! I have just applied it but instead of press/release I used press/hold. In this way I can change between clean and drive with a single click and I can jump into lead with hold, from any of them. From lead, with one click go back to drive and with hold to clean. 🤘🏻

Now thinking about it, maybe you can use a footswitch to control and "simulate" a snapshot. LIne6 has limited snapshots for the sake of it recognizing parameter changes in one preset. I know it's possible to edit multiple parameters for different effects ontu one footswitch (hx edit works best), so It's definitely possible. GIve it a shot!

Thank god I saw this video, because otherwise I would NOT have known why my snapshots were bouncing around in a seemingly random way. I had to go reprogram a patch I use that has snapshots because they were giving me strange behaviors until I saw this and understood why.

I'm definitely interested in what you think about how we might get the most versatility out of our 3 (+2 external) foot switches on an HX Stomp. It's like we suddenly got a bunch more footswitches, but all in the same small footprint. My mind is spinning over the possibilities. How many different functions is a single footswitch able to have? Possibilities are endless! You can assign (i think) 8 parameter/bypass assignments without using snapshots. Snapshots can handle I think 64 or something crazy like that

I figured out how to get a single button for snapshots using an external midi device where cc 69, value 8 goes up to the next snapshot. one dedicated snapshot button. very nice. I kinda wish line 6 gave you a button mode for this. the way the stomp lx comes you have to press the left two buttons at the same time which gives you one shot to choose any of 4 snapshots, but say you have a song that goes back and forth between several effects at once - you have to either hold the left to buttons down for a while to turn them into snapshot up down buttons or keep quick pressing both buttons to get them to give the one-time option to switch between the snapshots using the other buttons. boo.

That little Pilot MIDI controller for Stomp just reached a strange state of quasi-obsolescence. Now Wah blocks can be Bypassed by putting an EXP pedal above 95% and "Toe Down", but my EXP/FSW port is taken up by a 2-button switch for Presets. Snapshots can go up/down/previous on a single button, which obviates the need for the Pilot. I have to rethink this whole thing.
Looks like you can only assign the 'stacking' to 1 footswitch. And not have ie. button/FS A switch between Snap 1 and 2 and Button/FS B switch between Snap 3 and 4. I would have loved to fully mimic my Marshall Footswitch with JVM410H and get full control over the 4 channels and 3 modes of each channels. (MIdi switching included...) Let's say it leaves something to be desired for a next update :)

Yes you can customize the command center to do this. Just have to set up the stomps to do what you want. And make sure when you save the preset you're going to, its on the snapshot you want.
On the Stomp this is actually only useful for jumping back and forth between 2 snapshots. If you use all 3 snapshots, no matter which order you do this in it ends up equivalent to Next or Prev ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ... but maybe now that this is possible they might consider giving us more snapshots on the Stomp... here's hoping.
I really need to get on the snapshots. Honestly I've been using the stomp mostly as an amp modeler for headphone practice. Really seems like underutilized gear when I watch what you're doing.
Try it out man! On my main clean amp patch I have SS1 as clean, ss2 turns on an OD and Gate, SS3 has verb and delay kick on. 3 buttons for very different sounds. Makes switching easier. If you get a Dual switch and run it TRS you can have it toggle up and down patches.
Nice! :) I will switch between snapshots but then even switch to a different preset and then in the new preset after some snapshot switching back to the original preset. It's the circle of life! :D haha

Did you factory reset after you updated and then restore your backup? Sometimes if you dont, it causes issues. I havent heard anyone need to double press thus far
@@SteveSterlacci I got it too. If you have Snapshot Reselect set to "Toggle" or Snapshot Edits to "Discard" in your global settings, then it gets a bit mind-bending how they all interact. If you want to use the feature you describe, I suggest setting Snapshot Reselect to "Reload" and Snapshot Edits to "Recall". That fixed my double-press issue
In this example its the same only because i chose the order. You can organize them in a different order, which is what makes it different than NEXT and PREV. so on the full helix you can do 1>3>4>7>2>8>1 for example

Just out of curiosity, i've just purchased a Stomp & am trying to set up an external FS to use Snapshots 1 & 2 only for rhythm & lead but it keeps throwing in Snapshot 3 into the mix for some reason. It sounds like your snapshot 2 is set to go "Snap UP" when you press it. When snap 2 is activated, follow the same steps and set it to where you want to go from snap 2. If you're only using 2, you can also just set snapshots to toggle in global settings

Hey Steve, thanks for sharing your knowledge. I have a question, I've only made a few presets in my HX Stomp, mostly amp Sims with reverb and it seems like I'm running out of processing power. Is this normal and what to do?
Ugh. so close for me, but not fully there. I wish...first: If you're gonna customize your buttons in CS to do whatever you want, that if you (for instance) do stackable snapshots....that the damn rings around the buttons still light up. Let us customize a different color per action on that button. Snap 1 (blue), to Snap 2 (red), back to Snap 1 (blue). I mean w/out light indicators in a real world gig scenario, its suicide. COME ON LINE 6! Also, when in blank slate pedalboard view....using CS to customize 1 button for snaps, another for say a stomp on/off...and say the 3rd for the tuner....DON'T TAKE the 2 button preset bank up/down feature away. That now forces you to use an external switch...for preset banking. COME ON LINE 6. :)
I tried this on the Helix and it kinda got buggy when toggling between two snapshots. Every 3rd or 4th press, it would go back to the snapshot on release, and sometimes it would not even go to the next snapshot.
I’m having a bit of a problem when assigning snapshots using command center. I’m not trying to stack snapshots. I have 4 snapshots and I’m just trying to assign 4 separate footswitches like I always have. When I press any of the footswitches all the snapshot assignments change to next snapshot. Is this a bug issue or am I missing something?
@@SteveSterlacci I’m assuming you mean Global Settings>Footswitches>Snapshot Mode Switches>Auto Return or Manual Return. I tried both but I’m still having the same issue. I also did the factory reset after the update.
I can't get this to work, followed it like 100 times, trying to make my snapshot 2 hit it to go to Snapshot 5, then back to 2. I didnt clear out all the presets in command center, cause i dont want to mess the patch up. but footswitch 3 which is my snapshot 2 is not assigned in the global assignments
Great video! This is really useful, but when I set it up, it takes 2 attempts to switch to a preset. So if I am on preset1 and I set Footswitch1 to take me to preset2, the first time I press it, nothing happens. Then once I press it a second time (even if it is several minutes later) it works. It is not an issue with my unit, as far as I can tell, since assigning individual effects to footswitches works fine. Any idea what I could be doing wrong?
@@SteveSterlacci I did not. In the end I made it work by having it go to the target preset both on push and release. Then it works every time. I guess, I will give factory resetting a go. Thanks!
You're only able to do + or - 1 for the next snapshot. Now you can pick whatever order you want. So you can do 1,3,2,1 if you choose to. Its more easy to see on the full helix having 8 snaps and more options for combinations
Help, I followed what you did except im using fs 1 to toggle Prev Snapshot and fs 2 to Next snapshot. Set up footswitches 4 and 5 to toggle presets up and down. On some presets, the snapshots toggle immediately as they should, but on other presets I have to press twice to get snapshots to toggle. I'm confused.
Are the leds some indicator of what is going on? The presets that work, FS 1 &2 are not lit up but only light up when pressed. On the presets that don't work right, FS 1 & 2 leds are lit constant
Also, I'm assigning the snapshot toggling (fs1 & 2)in command center (per preset because I couldn't figure out how to make this global). FS 4 and 5 I set globally to toggle presets in global settings
No. I was afraid of the words "factory reset"...😬. But I fixed it somehow. I cleared the assignments for the presets and resigned the Snapshot toggles and it worked....smh

You can already bypass blocks in each snapshot, and the snapshot icon never goes away. Only the name changes!

Definitely less useful on the stomp. You've always been able to do next/previous. On the big helix we have a ton more options with the order

Unfortunately, i dont think so. This is where fractal can beat out Line 6. You can do this anywhere on an FM9 or 3

Check your global settings that its still set the same as before. Globals sometimes reset with updates
Great video Steve! Just out of curiosity, i've just purchased a Stomp & am trying to set up an external FS to use Snapshots 1 & 2 only for rhythm & lead but it keeps throwing in Snapshot 3 into the mix for some reason. Can Snapshot 3 be disabled somehow? Any idea what i'm doing wrong? Thanx in advance
It sounds like your snapshot 2 is set to go "Snap UP" when you press it. When snap 2 is activated, follow the same steps and set it to where you want to go from snap 2. If you're only using 2, you can also just set snapshots to toggle in global settings

Note: on the stomp, you could just as well use next/prev; also, you could assign that button globally.

I'm relatively new to the hx stomp xl and wondering if I can stack two snapshots to toggle between two amps and use the other 5 footswitches to change fx? Atm I'm using all 6 in stomp mode bit with just one amp patch
You can just assign amps to footswitches like they're pedals and have them toggle using the same mode you're using

@@SteveSterlacci snapshots are not switched by one switch. For instance. While in 1 snapshot , assign switch 1 to go to 2 snapshot , just like you show. I press the switch, nothing happens. I think I need to reset it to factory settings again and then load my date. Let's see what happens. Then I'll write.
@@SteveSterlacci I figured it out, I just had to scroll through the next page! :) Everything works, but only for 3 nimbs - for a maximum of 1 switch. And you say that you can assign up to 9 pictures! How to do it ?
Is it possible to have 3 states with one Footswitch by not using snapshots? A: Fx1 on/Fx2 off, B: FX 2 on/FX 1 off, C: both off...ist there a way to do that?
It does exactly what you're asking, but you do need snapshots to do it

I found out, I had to define press and release to go to the next snap...

I have a question, I've only made a few presets in my HX Stomp, mostly amp Sims with reverb and it seems like I'm running out of processing power. Is this normal and what to do?
Are you using pitch fx at all? Those are major eaters. Otherwise, doesnt sound like you should be running out. Some amps eat more dsp though
Ugh. so close for me, but not fully there. I wish...first: If you're gonna customize your buttons in CS to do whatever you want, that if you (for instance) do stackable snapshots....that the damn rings around the buttons still light up. Let us customize a different color per action on that button. Snap 1 (blue), to Snap 2 (red), back to Snap 1 (blue). I mean w/out light indicators in a real world gig scenario, its suicide. COME ON LINE 6! Also, when in blank slate pedalboard view....using CS to customize 1 button for snaps, another for say a stomp on/off...and say the 3rd for the tuner....DON'T TAKE the 2 button preset bank up/down feature away. That now forces you to use an external switch...for preset banking. COME ON LINE 6. :)

I tried this on the Helix and it kinda got buggy when toggling between two snapshots. Every 3rd or 4th press, it would go back to the snapshot on release, and sometimes it would not even go to the next snapshot.
I’m having a bit of a problem when assigning snapshots using command center. I’m not trying to stack snapshots. I have 4 snapshots and I’m just trying to assign 4 separate footswitches like I always have. When I press any of the footswitches all the snapshot assignments change to next snapshot. Is this a bug issue or am I missing something?
Check to make sure you have snapshot return off in your global settings, or make sure you did your factory reset after updating
@@SteveSterlacci I’m assuming you mean Global Settings>Footswitches>Snapshot Mode Switches>Auto Return or Manual Return. I tried both but I’m still having the same issue. I also did the factory reset after the update.
@Karl Galea so there may be an issue in command center. I have a tutorial for customizing your layout that may help if you search it on the channel
I can't get this to work, followed it like 100 times, trying to make my snapshot 2 hit it to go to Snapshot 5, then back to 2. I didnt clear out all the presets in command center, cause i dont want to mess the patch up. but footswitch 3 which is my snapshot 2 is not assigned in the global assignments

Great video! This is really useful, but when I set it up, it takes 2 attempts to switch to a preset. So if I am on preset1 and I set Footswitch1 to take me to preset2, the first time I press it, nothing happens. Then once I press it a second time (even if it is several minutes later) it works. It is not an issue with my unit, as far as I can tell, since assigning individual effects to footswitches works fine. Any idea what I could be doing wrong?

@@SteveSterlacci I did not. In the end I made it work by having it go to the target preset both on push and release. Then it works every time. I guess, I will give factory resetting a go. Thanks!
Yeah. You shouldn't need to do that. Just make sure you backup and then re install the backup after reset
I’ve already use this “stackable snapshots”, but I don’t updated my Hx 🤔
You're only able to do + or - 1 for the next snapshot. Now you can pick whatever order you want. So you can do 1,3,2,1 if you choose to. Its more easy to see on the full helix having 8 snaps and more options for combinations
Help, I followed what you did except im using fs 1 to toggle Prev Snapshot and fs 2 to Next snapshot. Set up footswitches 4 and 5 to toggle presets up and down. On some presets, the snapshots toggle immediately as they should, but on other presets I have to press twice to get snapshots to toggle. I'm confused.
Are the leds some indicator of what is going on? The presets that work, FS 1 &2 are not lit up but only light up when pressed. On the presets that don't work right, FS 1 & 2 leds are lit constant
Also, I'm assigning the snapshot toggling (fs1 & 2)in command center (per preset because I couldn't figure out how to make this global). FS 4 and 5 I set globally to toggle presets in global settings

No. I was afraid of the words "factory reset"...😬. But I fixed it somehow. I cleared the assignments for the presets and resigned the Snapshot toggles and it worked....smh
What all does the factory reset.....reset? I'm afraid of losing settings

Its the exact same process. I showed it on the stomp because it was easier to show the camera. Follow the exact same steps

I think it was supposed to come out before it, but had bugs. The QC update was pretty substantial IMO. Still has a bit to go, but great progress!
