- It is the NFL's minicamp season, and several QBs are seeking a new deal, including Tua Tagovailoa. When asked about his contract talks with the Miami Dolphins, he simply said that quote: "The market is the market." Joe Burrow currently has the highest average value per season with $55 million, followed by Jared Goff ($53 million), Justin Herbert ($52.5 million), Lamar Jackson ($52 million) and Jalen Hurts ($51 million). Emmanuel Acho, Joy Taylor, LeSean McCoy and James Jones debate whether Tua should set the QB market or not.

I’m all for players getting a bigger cut of the pie than the billionaire owners, but the only reason the pie is getting so big is because of how expensive it is to be a sports fan, in live attendance, TV options, and merchandise. Less affluent (read: younger) fans are going to be less inclined to be fans, and this whole thing could implode or become inaccessible to the average person if this keeps up

Do these people know how many 4th Quarters he's sat out of, how many perfect passes their God Tyreek has dropped that was on the money and would have won a lot of those big games. Do they know how many times Tua calls out of a play to let the RB run in the TD instead of throwing it and getting the TD to boost his stats? Do they know Tua plays behind the 31st worst pass blocking O-Line in the league and the starters have only been healthy together for 1 game last year (70 point game vs Denver). Tua's tape is much much better than his numbers, people just want to try to be proven right about what they thought about him his first 2 years.
His tape against good teams was trash last season though. Just saying. The Bills were 6-6, counted out of the playoffs, nevermind the division and won the division.
Tua should thank the Jags for keeping the spotlight off the dolphins monumental choke job. Only problem it wasn’t a choke, they got exposed by good teams. Couldn’t even win a game at home against the bills to have a home playoff game AMD keep the bills out of the playoffs.

Mahomes gets blamed (which he really doesn't they blame his lack of weapons for sure but he's afforded that luxury because he's great) because he's the best player. My issue is they say Tyreek is the best player but never blame Reek for his shortcomings. If the media considers you the best player and the engine for a team then that player should be blamed for losses.

They fail to mention the QB salaries still take up the same % of the cap as they normally do. The cap is getting higher thus players are getting paid more, but in a sense their pay isn't taking up more space per se although it's constantly getting higher.

Yet looking at his stats, he had a better QBR over his 12.1 games than Burrow has had in either of his 2 championship game playoff runs. Better completion percentage than Burrow's 7-game average too. Scaled to 17 games, Tua would have 1 fewer TDs and 3 more INTs. Burrow averaged 261 yards on 36 attempts vs Tua's 220 on 32 attempts (not counting Tua's game where his ribs were broken less than 5 minutes in). Tua had 2/12 full games go for over 275 passing yards vs Burrow's postseason 1/7. All this while Burrow had substantially better talent on the line + WR1/2/3 + RB.
It's weird how two players similarly helped out by comparable amounts of defense have drastically different narratives surrounding them. Both of his postseason runs, Burrow was bailed out in the wild card game by a turnover in the 4th quarter within the Cinci 10 yard line, the defense forced 2 turnovers overall, and held their opponent below their season point average. Both games were single score games.
Shady got busy in this segment. Listening to these guys talk football is very entertaining.
Reset the market? Just take anything close to 50M a year and say thank you after signing. This fool already tweaked out with his hands after that concussion which is the sign of a massive head injury.

This is why I don't care too much for the sports media in the NE and West Coast. Tua is looked down on for everything and all the other QBs are very talented. Most of those QBs had talent on their teams and coaches to help them out. Tua came in against it all. No good coaching, no wrs, no rbs, o-line was trash and he's coming off of rehab from multiple injuries. No excuses, but facts. McCoy is so vague and watered down in his take I can't take you seriously. Athleticism looks good, but doesn't win often at QB position.
