    This is the best grafting video I have seen. The grafting is done low in the seed plant and looks good. In Malaysia the grafting is done more than a foot above the base of the seed plant.

    I took your advice that you gave. I asked if the tree has already set fruit. When can I take a cutting for scion wood. You said after the fruiting period when the new growth starts. The fruit was still hanging on the tree but new growth started with swollen buds on the growth. I took those cuttings 1 month ago and I grafted on to two of my seedlings. And yessssssss😁😁 the one is taking. New leaves are growing now on my graft. Yeeeesssss. So exciting. I'm actually headed into winter. We are in autumn now but I have my grafted tree indoors so it will be safe until spring. But thanks for that advice. My friend planted an avacado tree from seed but didn't have space to plant it out, and he gave it away to a family friend member and that guy planted it in the ground. That avacado tree grows better avacados than any variety I ever tasted. Creamy, sweet, it's huge avacados too. So now that I successfully grafted a tree in spring I'm going to try and get a cutting from that tree of my friend and try to grow it. Buy I just wanted to say thanks because I took your advice and it helped because I was unsure about when to take a cutting and what to look for.

    Great video brother. Does it matter at all what kind of avocado seed you start with or what kind you graft on? Thank you.

    • @SleepyLizard
      @SleepyLizard  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      for avocado there's not really a go-to rootstock variety but we try to use big seeds like from the Lula or Walden avocado.
      As for what cuttings you graft on that depends on your taste, you chose whatever variety you want to eat.

    I'm inclined to believe that the environment that you graft in is more important than the grafting technique. I grafted several avocados in December and all failed. At my latitude there is not enough sunshine or warmth to get the buds to push. I will try again closer to summer, with more mature seedlings.

    I'm a beginner gardener in SWFL. I've had an avocado seedling planted for the last year or so. I recently repotted it in a bigger pot, and it has a great root system and a strong stem. Is it too late to graft my seedling tree? Is it recommended to graft the seedling tree as soon as it is ready to be grafted?
    This video was so helpful. Could you also do a quick video going into more detail about what exactly is being cut in the beginning of the video? I'm going to look for a mature tree around me and see if I can get a cutting (with proper permission), but I'm not entirely sure where I should cut.

    • @SleepyLizard
      @SleepyLizard  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ashley, it's not too late to graft your seedling. You can graft at anytime. In fact I have a 20 year old tree I'm going to graft next month.
      I will do a vid in the future with more detail on how to select the cutting. You've got nurseries over there in southwest FL. I'm sure you can ask one of the workers to get you a cutting or two.
