Hey Austin I have bad news brother Jeff LaBar of Cinderella passed away today could you give him a shout out brother? I'd like to share a story about how versatile Jeff was I seen him play with Mötley Crüe once while Mick Mars was dealing with court and legal stuff after Mick shot his wife in the ass Jeff set in with Mötley from my best memory anyway. I just remember Jeff just killing it with Mötley Crüe and Cinderella really are a underrated band because of the glam thing but, I always have thought Cinderella had some of the best blues fused rock n' roll I've ever heard. I seen Cinderella with Poison in Indianapolis in like 2014 or something like that and he killed his playing was awesome please give thean some love and a shout out if you could bud I'd appreciate it. One of my late mother's favorite songs was "Don't know what you've got till it's gone" so his death hurts just that much more.......take care of yourself Austin please man take care of yourself thank you for doing what you do.

That Les Paul Being the first to have a Floyd Rose isn't really disputed by anyone, Neal Schon was given serial #3. #1 and #2 to EVH and Steve Vai, not put onto Les Pauls. #4 Went to Brad Gillis of Nightranger who also put it on a Les Paul.

Pat Thrall had one of the very first Floyd Roses ever. A prototype that was so early in the design that it didn't even yet have different heights for the saddles. Cool as it was, he complained that the bridge didn't match the radius of the fingerboard so set-up had to find the compromise between playable action and buzz. Later units did have saddles that met fingerboard radius. But still in early testing phases, the unit was very basic just for proof of concept.
But no, not on a Les Paul.
Point is, these guys were getting early units before production and public sales. So they would surely be able to know for sure if theirs was the first to have or do this or that.
Oh... and, "anyways" is not a real word in any language.

An interesting fact I’d saw n a video about Neal Schon, whenever he purchase a new guitar he sends it off to his Luthier to have the frets leveled down to only 2/3rds their original height. Neal stated that he prefers the “worn-in” feel. He stated this while holding a brand new PRS Prototype guitar that he just received and was forwarding it to his Luther to have the frets lowered!

I was at the PRS factory while they were building the Doubleneck Dragons. It was amazing to see it in it's unfinished state, without the inlays (which were done by someone on the eastern shore of MD), then seeing the finished product. My eyes popped a bit when they told me what they were selling for and that they were sold out before even being produced. I have friends that have worked in the factory and been given the private tour, even hanging our with Paul in his office trying out a 12 string that I don't know if it ever saw the light of day. It was easily the best playing 12 string electric I've ever played and having him ask me my opinion about it was neato.

One of the very first guitarists to actually use a tremolo in a Les Paul was Michael James Kennedy. Guitarist for the Nicky Hopkins group on Mercy records,Nicky Hopkins was the original Rolling Stones pianist/keyboard player. Kennedy had an original stock 1958 vintage Fender tremolo in a 1952 gold top Gibson Les Paul that was refinished to a beautiful sunburst.

I've got a 1977 Gibson Les Paul Pro Deluxe I got dirt cheap, routed for humbuckers. Best Les Paul I've had out of 30 or so. Weighs 11 lbs. but doesn't feel like it on a strap. The neck and frets with ebony board is what makes it. Best neck shape and feel ever with really big ass original frets. Probably why Neal bonded with his.

About the 77 LP. Eddie VH got the first Floyd, Neal got the second. That was when Floyd was making them in his garage. Neal's playing the guitar in your own video in 1981. Pretty safe to say no one did it in a LP or just about any other guitar before him. Brad Gillis got the 3rd Floyd ever made & put it in his 62 strat but claims he got another & put it in his LP Custom & he is on video using that with Ozzy in late 82 so maybe Brad may have been 1st in a LP but we know Neal had it by 80 or 81 & Brad wasn't very well known at all in 81.

One thing I've noticed watching the Escape Tour videos where he plays that guitar - it isn't being sold with the original Floyd that was fitted back then. A first generation Floyd w/o fine tuners. If I were buying that guitar, I would want it in the configuration it was in during that tour.

Canadian guitarist Aldo Nova also had one of the very first Les Pauls with a Floyd Rose. You can see him using it in his videos in the early 80’s seen on MTV & also he was using it live in concert
These are Aldo Nova’s own words in a comment:
Again, Subject tour 1983. Now tell me, is there anything more
    beautiful than a Les Paul...?
This one has a Floyd Rose bridge on it
installed by Floyd Rose himself before a
New Years Eve show in Seattle opening
for Heart. Night Ranger was on that bill
also, and the audience had a blast
celebrating New Years Eve with some
good music to ring in the New Year. I
still have that guitar by the way, FYl... Aldo Nova. I don’t know who was first. Aldo Nova or Neil Schon.
One of the very first guitarists to actually use a tremolo in a Les Paul was Michael James Kennedy. Guitarist for the Nicky Hopkins group on Mercy records, who was the original Rolling Stones pianist/keyboard player. Kennedy had an original stock 1958 vintage Fender tremolo in a 1952 gold top Gibson Les Paul that was refinished to a beautiful sunburst.

Schon is a fine player and I'm sure he was just configuring his tools to fit the popular styles of that time. In the 80's you had to have a blazing widdly-widdly guitar solos along with lots of tapping, harmonic squeals and whammy dive-bombing to get the hot gigs and sell records. Not trying to dis Neal....just commenting on the trend...lived through it so it's just IMHO. Cheers!
