Not really, depends on the brands market, it used to be more common to focus on the quality than it is now, higher end or bigger brands don’t focus on the quality as much as smaller/newer/cheaper brands because they can’t compete with the high end brands in terms of status. With things that are more techy you will se more commercials focusing on quality but as soon as it becomes a commodity it turns into a status item or a bargain item. It’s likely that these Asian legging brands are not using technological innovations as the sell point for their leggings because it’s not what their public is looking for, specially because they have different uses for each public, one is more sport focused while the other is more casual use. This video then highlights more how each culture uses/views leggings as a product rather than how they sell products in general.

americans mostly wear black and grey leggings in public too but sometimes you'll see someone wearing colorful patterned ones like those especially for dance classes or yoga. it just depends on the person's personality. no one would look at them weirdly if they did wear super colorful leggings, it would just be kind of eye-catching so i think most people stick to black.

As someone who doesn't show much skin when swimming (I'm Muslim), I'd definitely wear a legging like that in water! I have done it but with a regular legging, so I had to wear a long top over it since it is see-through.
In East Asian culture, very white and healthy skin is prized. You can’t wear a bikini out or you risk getting tanned, or sun spots, early onset wrinkles. I’ve seen girls on the beach with a full rash guard and massive sun hats. Women of Muslim cultures also wear them in the water. Their moral code on modesty shouldn’t prevent them from enjoying the water. I believe they even sell hijabs made of swim-friendly material. Leggings are great to be cute and fashionable while also maintaining their lifestyle 🥰
The way the Asian leggings ads depict leggings make me think of them as the kind of leggings you’d buy for little girls here in the US. Just stretchy pants. They don’t say working out or athleticism like the Western ads depict. They say “shove these under your dress/tunic/kurta/sweater/hoodie” not “oh yay gym time”.

I think theres good and bad part of any culture. We've definitely seen an increase in products that are advertised for all sizes. Just look at the lulu website and you can see that most of their items will show you how the clothes look on all sizes

They are just comfy and surprisingly durable despite the fact I work in a warehouse distribution center. I rarely even wear jeans anymore due to the comfort issue. Still, leggings do roll down, stretch out, or show off more than I want if I buy the cheap ones so these commercials were welcome. I also found it interesting how Asian markets tended to focus less on flashy prints and more on practicality. Personally, I adore loud prints. I stand out at work due to my love of flashy colors.
I wear leging to Class when I was in University there. Many University student wear Leging and sport clothes and Sport Shoes to Class every day in US. I usually wear black leging with sweater or hoodie with my Nike or addidas Shoes to class.

Turns out, it appears Americans sense of color and fashion correlate with how well the economy is doing usually. So the 90s we had a lot of brighter colors and even in the early 2000s then the economy crashed and the colors diluted to more darker colors. Since we still haven't recovered from that crash, makes sense we aren't into crazy colors.
These commercials are based on the specific culture and clothing habits in each region and therefore is apt for marketing to consumer in their respective regions.

I'm not familiar with the Korean brands they showcased, but I was curious - are they *leggings* brands, or are they general clothing brands that happen to sell and advertise leggings? Because the US and UK commercials were all from brands that heavily specialize in leggings, and some are quite premium brands as well. As opposed to the Japanese commercial for example, which was from generic affordable fashion chain GU. It kind of makes sense that big fashion brands would focus more on the daily fashion of leggings while specialized companies would be very direct about their practicality.
It’s common to see colorful/patterned leggings and basic monochrome leggings when people work out The way I see it is that with colorful leggings you don’t have to worry about matching your clothes and can throw on whatever bra/shirt/sweater you want with whichever shoes and they’ll match because the statement piece is the leggings I wear whichever depending on my mood tbh
This was interesting to see the different styles of commercials! although I did feel like the korean one was very similar to something you'd see in the west

Because the US and UK commercials were all from brands that heavily specialize in leggings, and some are quite premium brands as well. As opposed to the Japanese commercial for example, which was from generic affordable fashion chain GU. It kind of makes sense that big fashion brands would focus more on the daily fashion of leggings while specialized companies would be very direct about their practicality.
It’s common to see colorful/patterned leggings and basic monochrome leggings when people work out
The way I see it is that with colorful leggings you don’t have to worry about matching your clothes and can throw on whatever bra/shirt/sweater you want with whichever shoes and they’ll match because the statement piece is the leggings
I wear whichever depending on my mood tbh

personally, i prefer the style of the Korean ads but the message from the US ads. i mean, i like the message of the US ads but the filming and editing style of the Korean ads. my preferences could be because i am much more used to that style and content over the others shown. anyway, i really enjoyed the video and have learned some more about different styles in different cultures. thanks OSSC

We Brits lives on leggings, it’s part of wardrobe staple like jeans. Because it’s comfy, wam and you can wear them anywhere. They comes in different patterns and for sports or casual style . So they are here to stay 🙂🇬🇧😎

The indian ad is not really workout leggings they are more for everyday use under kurta and all the workout legging ads are different
