3:45, you meant to say "aerobic process". In my experience, you don't need a bin at all. Where I live, we often get high winds, but the compost never blows away. As long as it stays moist, it locks itself down. Although the bins look nice and tidy. I also like to mix some straw in with the compost. The straw creates more air pockets and circulation and does not flatten out like leaves and grass. With straw you are not subjected to turning the pile over as often and get a much faster decomposition.
I have never seen someone to add t-shirts or cotton materials into the mixture and thank you for letting us know that the stuffs are also usable in compost making. In India, generally people don't use t-shirts as compost ingredient. They frequently use vegetable left overs, dry leaves and flowers as main ingredient and The remaining process is as same as yours, only they use plastic pot or bucket as a compost maker, which is the small difference.
Good video. Clear, simple instructions and demonstartion. You should be ateacher. Well done. DR Joginder Singh-Principal -Nottingham Teaching College UK
Do you add any dirt to it in the process as well? I've seen another video where a guy added some. I'm trying to get something together for a work project with my clients.
I plan to sell mine by the bag when I get to that point. Or start another bin so you can have an alternate source. One you pull from and one that's breaking down.
You said to limit the amount of citrus to added to the compost. I have always wondered about that, but haven’t much information about it. Can you explain why?
Looks like you have a rainy climate...you want to cover the pile with something waterproof as without the pile will become waterlogged after heavy rains. To get compost in six months the piles needs to be fully turned which is much easier if one side of the enclosure can open for access.
You seem to have Just the opposite quantities of Carbon material in PROPORTION to Nitrogen material which is of utmost important to Effective breakdown/ composting in addition to water and air. You will get compost but not efficient quantity.
Hello Katie, We have been composting for the last three years oak tree leaves, coffee grounds, paper and cardboard. My husband does not want to add food scraps in case it attracks animals and pests. Is there a way to avoid this problem? Thank you, regards, Lucy
Hi, I have never had any issues with food scraps attracting animals as I only ever use things that are raw and have never been cooked’ Have a go and see what happens? Should you get any unwanted visitors then go back to your original way of doing it - I’m sure it will be fine.
I use a wire mesh 300 x 90 cm and connect both ends with cable ties. The mesh itself is about 1.5 x 1.5 cm. It works for me and it looks good and minimal. My piles are nice and round. Happy composting.
You can compost most things even road kill stay clear of those pine trees and leylandi hedge apparently they don’t break down quick but it can decompose
It's not about whether it has carbon or not but rather the carbon:nitrogen ratio. Paper, cardboard, dried leaves etc have higher C:N ratio, usually called 'browns' in composting. 'Greens', like garden clippings, food waste, etc, have higher N:C ratio.
I've learned so much from the two videos I watched today. Thank YOU!
I'm so glad!

Saint Michael just pile it up on soil layer grass and dry stuff leave nature to do it’s job
Thank you for this comment! I thought I was crazy for a second.
I don't know why, I find your videos so relaxing and peaceful and out of this world. You inspire me to make a garden. I will. Great job :)
I composted an old pair of jeans, after a year or so all you could find was the zip, pockets and yellow thread.
Well basically a jean is pretty much beside the dye and metal zippers and buttons 100% natural. cause (denim) jeans are made from cotton.
You're a weirdo

healthiest balanced diet compost i have seen for a while' love your Northern accent ( yep I'm a southern softy that went uni in B)
Cool, thanks
Egg shells take forever to decompose. Try drying them in a sunny window then grid with a spice or coffee grinder.

Thanks, we'll pass the compliment along
You have the most posh compost I've ever seen.
What should I do if mold grows in the soil?
Jumpers in the compost, love it! :)
Do you add any dirt to it in the process as well? I've seen another video where a guy added some. I'm trying to get something together for a work project with my clients.
Thank you so much for this wonderful creative idea👏
Never experienced composting.
I'll try to have it.
This is just what I was looking for thank you
Hi,
Whay didn't you line all four sides?
Regards,
Bill.
can you use this compost for growing veg
Yeah, use it for anything in the garden
Katie reminds me of the character Ygritte from Game of Thrones; the fierce & wonderful wildling.
Thank you for your knowledge shared.
It takes 6 months? What are things I can do for my plants now? They all died once I moved them from pot to ground. Please help!
Can i compost only with kitchen waste and other green material?.
Well ok, I can use Katie in my garden :)
Do you need a lid for your compost
Wonderful work
So what do you do when its full, no more room to add, ?
I plan to sell mine by the bag when I get to that point. Or start another bin so you can have an alternate source. One you pull from and one that's breaking down.
@@Kamishax great idea thanks hun
I love her accent
That’s really good idea also I saw people used car tires to store the compost 😊

I was wondering the same thing, maybe it's to do with the PH level of the compost?
It’s the oils in the citrus that is not good for composting
4:45 for when you really need to get rid of evide..cough documents.
Try a staple gun for the fabric
Thanks for the tip!
Many thanks for your kind sharing, you have very good contributions to human world
Thank You.
Can I add stuffs everyday to the compost?if so,how wil it be composted in 6 months
Best way is add red worms, you can get them at a garden center

@@jelly4jesus what do you mean?
Winter???
I want to make it big project. But i am scared if i opened it oopppsss.. A BIG FAT SNAKE!
😂😂😂
My teacher said to watch this video as homework
Should it have soil under it
Yes, you enter the pile to be touching the ground.
Does anyone else worry about the ink in printed paper and composting?
In a lot of gardening channels they say ink even colorful ink nowadays are not toxic so it's okay to use ^^
Wow your place is so beautiful
how long will take it to be a perfect compost? a month?
A few months. YOu could add a bio activator to speed it up (available at garden centres).
You seem to have Just the opposite quantities of Carbon material in PROPORTION to Nitrogen material which is of utmost important to Effective breakdown/ composting in addition to water and air. You will get compost but not efficient quantity.
nice video sister
hello maam why are closed the one side and why are nyou not close the other sides any reason of that if yes please guide me
I love your accent!
I am going to Dow that like you
Why do you need to cover it up with a black cloth?
It's supposed to be a shady area.
To keep it warm
Unfortunately we can't do that in the city. That would attract too many critters to come into our yards looking for hidden treasure.
Can garlic and onion spicy peppers be composted?
I would say yes!

Jacques-L Dubé Vegetable food scraps (uncooked) is fine.
but no meat scraps.
this will attract pests, and create a serious stink.
Silverline ToolsTV thank you, I am goinf for it!
👍👍

I must use a wood box? Plastic won't do the trick to hold the compost?

I'm watching in 2020😉🤗💯
3:45 its the opposite, aerobic
No one ever mentioned wee wee as a starter
don't cut-flowers contain pesticides because they're not meant to eat?
I think in this instance she has used flowers from her own garden so maybe they're pesticide free?
You said an anerobic process, that is without oxygen, you mean aerobic, with oxygen.
make sure you have not shredded plastic cards so you don't introduce plastic to your compost
You can compost most things even road kill stay clear of those pine trees and leylandi hedge apparently they don’t break down quick but it can decompose
I use a plastic garden bin 💁♂️
Technically almost everything in that bin has carbon.

'Aerobic' process, as in the presence of air. Not 'anaerobic', as stated here, which is what you get in swamps or peat bogs.
I love you
Naa lagi jacket? Nag compost ka because..?
3:35 "aerobic" not anearobic
Aerobic actually not anaerobic which means whith out air
You are so pretty
So many people say don't compost meat and dairy I've developed a way you can without adding to the compost pile and without attracting rodents!
My Family Garden how do you compost meat?
@@arnie3631 I did a video on the subject it's explained in that
