You are indeed an "EXTREMEST"! Living up to your name. I have absolutely zero lathe/milling knowledge but I loved this sort of thing while I was in high school. Unfortunately Africa being what it is, realising your dream is for the few privileged ones. Anyways, if you should by any chance stray into Johannesburg please let me know. I will happily pay for your hotel bills as long as I can, show you around and ask you about those crazy skills you have and perhaps persuade you to consider me for your "spanner boy" even if I am now 56. Thank you for everything you do and share.
Perhaps, like a shaper, a clapper mount for the cutting tool would prevent dragging the bit on the back stroke, particularly on steel stock. Did the barrel warp after welding on the mount for the tool post. Nice workmanship!
Interesting build. But to be honest I can see some problems on the horizon to. I can't imagine that the tool post is going to withstand much in the way of roughing out in the way that a shaper would. Lots of leverage going on to those four tool post screws.
Wow! What a show! I'm a machinist myself and I think there's some room for accuracy improvement. Probably caused by the equipment you own. But, sir, hats of for your video! Damn this is swift, smooth and looks so easy! I hope the young folks get motivated and start machining too. I'm curious to know how much time it cost to make this video. Thank you and all the best, Job
@@leaningr Self explanatory if you are familiar with machining and welding operations. I had to watch to the end to understand what was being slotted and how the components would accomplish the task.
The level of entitlement/self-agrandizing of some ppl. A guy makes an epic build/video with endless creativity and years of skill that you watch for free but because it's not exactly as desired you a) Wont even tap a thumbs up button b) Think the world revolves around you to the point that you think a Like is worth more than his effort/that your decision to Like has even the slightest impact on his choice of info presentation or that he would even read your comment let alone make a decision based on it. In fact he would prob be less inclined to do what you want because of your self-obsessed bullsh3t
have seen the idea before and thinking on mounting sumting like it vertically on my milling machine , that and a divider should allow me to make splined hubs
To be sure. But for custom sized slots, perhaps internal slots which don't go end to end, this is a well thought out tool. I started on shapers and slotters and could have used one of these as well.😊
He already has three... the lathes !! 😏 (I've mounted parts to be bored on the lathe saddle and ran a boring bar between centres for smaller work) I presume you mean the portable line-borers that are tack welded onto heavy machinery for repair... yeah, that would be a nice project !.. 😉 😎👍☘️🍺
All that skill but in the tool room I worked in you would have been terminated for not using the lathe safely by leaving the chuck key in the chuck when leaving to use the mill. In vocational school people was getting 0 for the day for leaving to chuck key in the lathe chuck. Practice safety !!
I'm not sure which is more impressive - the build, or the video production! I wish I was as skilled in either of them!
Practice practice practice

An outstanding and exceptionally impressive construction and video! All I can say is WOW!
Very smart solution. I'm impressed...

A clapper would really make sense for some larger work.
Interesting build. But to be honest I can see some problems on the horizon to. I can't imagine that the tool post is going to withstand much in the way of roughing out in the way that a shaper would. Lots of leverage going on to those four tool post screws.
I always imagine myself working like this, but then reality strikes and takes over.

Probably months considering all the planned out camera angles. Too, they only show a fraction of what footage was actually shot.
Great video and a great tool that we don't see homemade very often. We shared this video on our homemade tools forum last week 😎
Watching your videos makes me feel like I should have become a machinist instead of a mechanic. Seems so satisfying...
Nicely done, as always.
Wonderful key cutter in action :)
ultimate brilliance of your craftsmanship. I learn a lot from your videos. Thank you!
With a bit more work to the lathe by adding a ClickSprings style indexer mechanism, you could cut splines.

The day you will talk and explain things, I will gladly give you a thumbs up!
For a good connoisseur, the images are more than enough.
Explain what? Pretty much self explanatory.
You should start by cleaning the machines, that's where you can learn the most.

Una solución precisa y maravillosa solo acta para verdaderos profesionales.

C'est beau! C'est très beau! A ton of skills and an awesome entertaining moment. Thank you Sir!
Friendly reminder to never leave the chuck key in the chuck.
Meraviglioso video e un grande lavoro complimentissimi
And this year's award for 'Gilding the Lily' goes to . . . . . .
The Slotter that wanted to Shape or was it the Shaper who wanted to Slot? Nice build!
Toolmaking at it´s very finest....excellent job.
Thanks for the show mate 🍻 🇦🇺
You are the Master! Great Video! Greetings from Finland, we have 10cm / 4" Snow on ground! ❄️❄️❄️
Very good machining. I do some but I am amature comparing to you I would not take this project on my own I would buy set of die and broch instead LOL
nice machining
Profi!! Respect! Good lack!
Amazing job my friend congratulations
Great project, well videoed.
Outstanding job!
Glad you like it!
22:43 everything reminds me of her... :D
Nice Work and great editing from start to finish!
Excellent job 👍❤
My wife has one of these but she has different tooling on the end of hers.
😂😂
How do you lock the lathe chuck?
Светлая голова и золотые руки!

Thanku sir very nice. ❤
That is great project❤
good music is playing. What's the name?
what music is used as background, esp around min 10.?
+ uma ferramenta top ❤❤❤
Using CF when milling a slot but not threading. Those threading inserts I know for a fact aren't cheap!
My mind is going to dirty places watching this machine perform it's intended purpose. 😅
that's badazz!!
Nice tool, but the same end result can be made with a broach and an arbor press. Much less complicated.
To be sure. But for custom sized slots, perhaps internal slots which don't go end to end, this is a well thought out tool. I started on shapers and slotters and could have used one of these as well.😊
Geniiiiiiiisssssssssssss!!!!!!!!
"Slotting Machine" Is that what we call a broaching machine?
Make your own line boring machine

Для того чтобы делать шпоночные пазы можно было купить пошивочный инструмент! Я об этом не знал своё время и купил целый 3 тонный станок (((
Super 👍
@11:30 brotato music?!
Why not a shaper tho?
Bravissimo
Muito bom gratidao
23:28 "shorts"😂
Did he just did i have 3 lathes flex?
I have three lathes, you don't?
i've seen these kind of machines somewhere.. it think it was po.... something :S

God the music gets monotonous. Rather have no music than this xD
