    I was lucky enough to live in Heidelberg for 3 years.Heidelberg and the whole Kurpfalz region is amazing. I was able to move back a couple years ago within an hour’s drive. The Korean restaurant is “ON” I believe, very good, as I lived in Korea for four years.

    Whenever I see Audrey explaining, she was really similar to someone. I always pondered whom it might be? Now I have found out whom she looks like. Audrey just looks like Jacinda Ardern, NZ PM. Audrey not just looks like her. Her manner of communicating is also like her. Samuel and Audrey channel is really spectacular. Admirable.

    I love all your videos, but this one particularly. I worked for a unit of Bayer AG in Indiana, and visited Heidelberg on a cloudy, misty Tuesday in November 1986 on a recreational group tour with fellow employees. That included the group tour of the Schloss and thus the interior, but the truly impressive part was that intricate exterior facade. I had seen an article on Heidelberg before the trip and split off by myself after lunch to see the Studentinkarzer. At that time, there was a fellow sitting on the landing of the staircase with a little money box to collect admission, just 1-2 DM per person. One of my coworkers in Indiana was a German on an interim assignment who'd attained his doctorate at Heidelberg. After I got back home, he asked to see my trip pictures. As he went through the stack, he exclaimed "Ach!!! Der Studentinkarzer!!!" when he saw it. He then admitted that he spent something like six years in Heidelberg but never visited it--not even once.

    • @samuelandaudrey
      @samuelandaudrey  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Ahhh, isn't that the truth! When you live in a place, you always think you'll get to the tourist attractions one day. So cool that you got to see the student jail and share the photos with your coworker!

    I have been to the castle. I actually got to see the largest wine barrel. There is a small dance floor on the top of it. In one spot there was a little bridge that you went under. if you look up it is open and hollow. I climbed up inside and on each end there were doors that were locked, I realized that that was a crawl space for soldiers to get from on place to another with out being seen. Me and my friends did some exploring by going over a small chain that said Zutrit Verboten which means entry forbidden. The path led to a cemetary that is on the grounds hidden away from every one. We got caught on our way out by the castle personel and almost got kicked out. We did find out that the big wall with all the windows was actually a way of making attacking armies to think the castle was bigger than it actually was by making the winows smaller as the wall got higher. I just wish i had the money at the time to take a tour. I was in the US army stationed in Darmstadt which is about 40 minutes from there. I was stationed there from 88 to 91, then stayed there after I was released from service for another 4 years.

    Hi guys, German looking for Restaurant recommendations here - I got some really good impressions, thank you!
    I don't want to be "that guy" but you might want to update the Video Timestamps: the last restaurant is called "Hackteufel" - Hack being short for "Hackfleisch", the German term for minced meat and "Teufel" being the German term for devil. This might be helpful for non-natives trying to google it.
    Have a great day!

    There are three more Korean restaurants, all of which are better.... "Soban" and "ON" serve traditional Korean food. Codec serves fried chicken with spicy Korean sauces + mandu.

    Were the operators of the Korean restaurant associated with the US military? I know Heidelberg due to its connection US Army’s command center in Europe and we had an exchange student from there. English must be widely understood. It would be interesting to compare how land occupied by US army is being revitalized with efforts in eastern Germany abandoned by Soviets.

      about the same as land occupied by the french and british army. over the last 30 years a lot of money was put into the eastern states and the infrastructure in the western states is crumbling. it's not as bad as in the US yet, where the infrastructure is a disaster, but people in the western states are starting to complain that too much money is going to the eastern states, which is fair enough.

      after the US germany is the second most popular country for immigration in the world. there are restaurants from all over the world. the likelihood of this korean restaurant (there are a lot of korean restaurants all over germany) being associated with this base is very small.

      I visited Heidelberg back in the pre-ATM days, so I had to carry American Express Traveler's Cheques (remember those?) for incidental expenses and exchange them for smaller DM coins and notes. I speak a small amount of German, usually poorly, so I carefully practiced my request for various denominations of currency in German, went into the American Express office near the old town, and immediately mangled everything I intended to say. The clerk behind the desk smiled and said "Thanks for trying, but this IS American Express...and we know how to speak English in here!" ;-)
