I love how Katniss is portrayed. "What did I do?!" She just wanted to speak truthfully to Rue's family... She didn't want a rebellion. She wanted to keep everyone safe. Everyone alive.
I realized how did Katniss changed everyone, from being slave into a warrior.

sakshi lalwani Cheyenne Bonnick That whistle is imitated from the sound of mockingjay bird, while The Mockingjay is the symbol of rebellion, you can watch how the rebel groups literally labelled and propagated Katniss as the Mockingjay in the Mockingjay 1 The Movie. The victory of Katniss and Peeta has sparked the spirit of rebellion amongst the District people. The hand gesture itself represents "salute and hope" if I'm not mistaken or at least that's my interpretation. The District people saw a hope in Katniss, a hope of a better, peaceful future, and the only way to get that is to destroy this Capitol-centered government. President Snow was tremendously worried about the spread of this rebellion spirit, therefore he commanded the Peacekeepers to just destroy anything that relates to the rebellion, even if it was just and oldman whistling while doing that symbolic hand gesture. For example, Cinna, Katniss' stylist/designer/close friend from the Capitol was beaten to death by the Peacekeepers because he made Katniss a Mockingjay-inspired dress. Just my thoughts. :)

Erza Scarlet エルザ • スカレット technically speaking, they're doing their jobs. It's just that this form of peace is screwed up and is ruled through fear, oppression, and violence.
Technically they’re district 2 assholes, who instead of struggling in their district. Decide they want to lord over all the other districts, since they aren’t quite Capitol citizens. See the capitol doesn’t have that many citizens who want to become peacekeepers only a select few. So they use district two as their enforcers. What happens when you give a few prisoners weapons to guard your jail?

The problem is really with President Snow, because he enforced what the Peacekeepers had to do to try and stop the rebellion from spreading

Whenever I watch this scene, it appears that the old man whistles in solidarity for District 12, not as an act of revolution. He always looks so confused about what he’s done, as if he never intended to spark violence.
But sadly, Capitol took it in different way, an act of uprising. Capitol didn't want them to have a symbol of unity.
It’s portrayed as intentional in the books. By this point, the Mockingjay and everything associated with it was a known symbol of rebellion, and to show such defiance so clearly meant harsh punishment.
The act of solidarity is the act of revolution. Those who didn’t keep to their tribe and didn’t hate the others were enemies to the State. Much like today, going off the ideological plantation resulted in death.
I mean the people in the districts know it would be bad if they mingled with other districts
The districts were meant to hate each other though. That’s what the tours were for, to make the other districts resent the winner from another district and keep the districts distracted by each other. When they showed solidarity, the Capitol foamed at the mouth.
People always wonder why she got parts in 20 movies since 2012. THIS IS WHY. She was easily the best pick for Katniss, there's literally no competition. There's no debate of skill or perfection here, it's just pure emotion and reaction, which is what acting should be.

The tune he whistles was Rue and Katniss’s way of saying “we’re okay and we’ll be back soon” - he’s trying to tell Katniss that it’s okay she couldn’t save Rue - she is forgiven.

When I was younger I never understood what he did wrong. Now watching this back I realized that his actions symbolized hope; which brings unity, strength (in numbers), and could potentially lead to rise and action. These are the foundation of a rebellion.
I wish they added the line regarding thresh from the book. It wasn't just 'thanks for sparing my life ok bye'.
She said that she respected him for not teaming up with the careers even though they wanted to; for playing the game on nobody's terms but his own. She had genuine admiration for him.

Jen's acting in this scene is great. Although I actually think Peter's simple reaction of pure shock is almost more effective than Katniss screaming and struggling.
Peeta didn't get visited by Snow. He had no idea how bad this was. So while Katniss is like "you didn't have to do that/he was killed because of me", Peeta is _completely_ thrown.

Okay so I watched this scene for the very first time w my little sister and my reaction was the same as Peeta's and my sister's reaction was the same as Katniss and it's kinda funny cuz my sister and Jennifer Lawrence are both Leo's and me and Josh Hutcherson are both Libras(we have the same birthday too) and I just thought it was kinda cool how we have the most in common w those characters

I love the face katniss/Jennifer makes when the man is shot. It makes the scene feel even more real.
This whole series are really relatable for the situation in my country. the police killed innocent people just because they were protesting against governments decision of deconstructing a historical park to build a shopping mall. then it became the symbol of bigger protests. The protesters were called terrorists while the ISIS was actually allowed (the police didn't do anything about them having real guns and walking around in the main streets) to make their propaganda freely. sorry for the politics. "president snow" has to pay for what he has done to my country.

I think the sentence "Remember who the real enemy is" and the whole policy of the books that the government tried to turn the districts one against another is exactly what's happening in every single war. As someone would say, "Rich man's war, poor man's blood"

It named after the park that goverment intended to turn into a mall. Which made people to start prostesting against it. It started as a civil disobedience but the goverment didn't let it stay that way and tricked everything and everyone like they always do
something about the fact that it was Rue who started that whistle with Katniss just gets me every time i think about it. It is so significant to everything Katniss represents after that that it just touches my heart.

It feels like Katniss from Hunger Games is one of the few characters in TV and movies today that have the right emotional reactions.
One of my favorite scenes, Katniss's speech. It gets me every time. I just find it cruel that the tributes only meet when they go to the capitol, and then the winner has to tell them about it. The people the victor kills, its just sad. And yet through all this, Rue was an amazing friend to Katniss even though they had a couple days together.

The moment that man saluted like that I started crying. I read the books. I knew exactly what was coming, and the music swelling, the crowd taking up the salute, and the peacekeepers beginning to move just got me. And that man showed absolutely no fear when they took him. He knew full well what he had done and was ready to die for it.

The fact that Katniss instills hope without even knowing herself is the true symbol of a people's leader.

The acting is amazing in this scene. Katniss' face when she is admiring Peeta as he has a passion for what he speaks about and very good with words, whilst then doing what we'd all find difficult to hold ourselves back from, and thats seeing injustice happen right in front of you.
What's sad is Katniss never wanted any of this. She just wanted to apologize that she couldn't save Rue. She didn't want to start anything. She just wanted to be in her district and hunt.

I saw all the movies for the first time this weekend. When that man was shot dead i couldn't help the tears from falling. This 'post apocalyptic future' really got to me, i hope the future won't be anything like this, since it will already be bad enough.

This scene is fantastic. I read the books before the films came out so obviously, I knew it was going to happen, but it still hit me somehow. The man, then the crowd, putting up three fingers still shocked me. Say whatever you want about the rest of her career, but she was fantastic in these films.
