I love these old COMDEX episodes..you seen a lot of innovation. Stuff that was years ahead of its time, and other stuff that never took off. Its cool looking back as if you are a time traveler watching predictions.

Right? I'm always blown away by these old Computer Chronicles episodes and consistently impressed by the innovation shown nearly 40 years ago. It makes me less impressed with what I see coming out now.

RIP Charles Rich. He ended up being a big part of A.I. development, a research scientist at MIT and professor at WPI among other things. Passed away from pancreatic cancer in 2018

I love that idea of calling your friends overseas for the price of a local call. For many years now you've been able to talk to anybody anywhere in the world for free. I've been called many names in many different languages, it's great.

8:00 this was the pre-cursor to Peleton. Crazy they had that idea back in 1995.

Browse the internet using a real life 3D interface? Did anyone get beyond the initial ‘Wow, never thought of that’ excitement and really dive into whether it adds tangible value.

The 1995 Comdex convention in Las Vegas NV looks like it was very nice. I believe that I would have liked to see a lot of the stuff up close and personal. But I don't have the amount of money to afford attending such an event as Comdex.

We are now starting to see 3D environments becoming mature in applications such as Oculus and Valve Index. Crazy to see how these early concepts have evolved 25+ years later

I acquired a dozen 1GB Jazz cartridges and a drive in 1999 for 10 bucks. It was slow but it was how I would boot up newly acquired legacy mac systems that I would buy at the flea markets at De Anza college in Cupertino and Los Positas in Livermore. Back when you just needed a the finder and system file and maybe some extensions depending on what you were doing. And gas was under 2 bucks a gallon.

20:55 I can tell you I would have bought that mouse. I bought the Logitech G600 for exactly that reason. Only I use the very right button as middleclick. If you use blender for example it is insanely comfortable that way.

The business version of that is the 3DConnexion (owned by Logitech) CadMouse. It's a 3-button plus scroll wheel mouse specifically for 3D modeling apps.

3D web browsing never took off, just like 3D on your tv.
Just 5 years ago, all new highend tvs came with 3D glasses.
Now, no tv includes them anymore...

3D never took off coz there's no 3d content to watch. I still miss my HTC Evo 3d, it had 3d cameras and you could watch those 3d pictures on the 3d display of the phone, it was absolutely amazing.
