Agreed. dub (no matter what the original and dub language is) isn’t usually better than the original, but sometimes they can be or at least super good! Ghibli dubs sound great
@@Electivedrop chichuro is a little girl though so it makes sense . You don’t have to like the way Daveigh voices sounded but other than that? A little girl playing a little girl makes sense
The very first role that introduced me to Jason Marsden. I was quite impressed that it was him back then I honestly thought Haku was also voiced by a boy.
I never would have thought I would hear Max Goof do an Anime dub, least of all a Ghibli film, but he did do a very admirable job as this character. I've heard people say his voice is miscast, but I honestly don't see it. He actually comes across as much better than Chase, at least to me. I'm not gonna comment on the Japanese voice actor, because I don't watch the Ghibli movies subbed, sorry to say. Anyway, I'd also suggest Colonel Muska from CASTLE IN THE SKY. He's one of my personal favorite characters, and dubbed voice.
@@official_nerd4917 To be honest, it really doesn't matter to me whether the VA is an exact match for the Japanese voice actor/actress or not, just as long as they provide a good performance. Marsden had a lot more experience than James did at the time, for he had, after all, done voice work before. That said, both still gave solid performances for their roles, in part because they had good voice direction. But at the time, there were a number of fans who desperately wanted to believe that Disney was trying to sabotage Ghibli, and they were looking to latch onto anything to "prove their point". And I've seen such people take issue with both Pazu and Haku's VAs. Even little things like Kiki drinking hot chocolate as opposed to coffee, etc., a lot of people just wanted to bash the dubs because they wanted to. But their arguments haven't really found any major impact because there are plenty of fans who continue to enjoy them and don't even give a damn about what such people say. Case in point: at my hometown of Highland Park Outdoor Movie Theater: we showed Spirited, Kiki, and Castle all dubbed to the audience there. Did anybody scream foul or hate the dubs? No. They all enjoyed them. So the reality is that despite what you read on the internet from some fans who want to act like they're "stating facts", the truth is a lot of them are just a vocal minority.
Mark Hamill did amazing as Muska. I've never watched a Ghibli film in dub, I don't think I need to, they are localized masterfully and on purpose for a reason.

I remember watching this when i was younger but I rewatched it again when I found out that it was Miyu Irino's voice who also voices my SUGAMAMA from Haikyuu. Srsly, an Ikemen and an Ikebo (Ikemen Voice)
as a japanese,the english haku sounds cool and more like a man. probably,the english speaking haku could be one of the reasons that make me like english very much.
When you realize... Irino Miyu... was 13 when he voiced Haku. I literally searched up this just to hear how he sounded then. Because I didn't notice when I was watching this many years ago, and certainly not when I watched the English version before I even knew what anime was... a super super long time ago.
He has the perfect voice of a 13 year old boy, like it's high-pitched but still masculine. When a female dubs a boy character, it's almost rare for her to reach this exact pitch, because she still manages to sound like a boyish girl. Really appreciate them using actual children to voice the children
no way, Haku is supposed to be a child too, Irino Miyu was 13 when he voiced Haku. since Haku is a river spirit, his voice is supposed to be soft, soothing, and calm and Irino Miyu did just that.

It's a great movie, but sorry to say that... Haku looks a bit like a transgender.... When I saw it for first time, I couldn't tell.. Is it a boy, or is it a girl.
I vastly prefer his voice in Japanese. I always thought Haku sounded so irritable and rough and even untrustworthy in English. I was blown away when I watched in Japanese for the first time a few weeks ago, because he sounded so gentle and kind and calm, even when he wasn't calm. I suddenly loved a character that I'd never liked very much before. And then I realized I was _supposed_ to feel this way about him, and the English dub had robbed me of that. I came away with far greater appreciation for the film.
ill always choose sub over dub. i dont get why they even dub it, its not anime if it isnt japanese. if its english then its just a cartoon. and i hate it when i search up voice actors of anime characters and the dub actors come first.

I think the English dubs are incredible, bad dubs can ruin a work of art but these were perfect

Jason Marsden did a great job as Haku, whoever said he was miscast was crazy. He has just the right voice for caring, adolescent older brother types.
Honestly, both their voices match haku well. I can't really choose.

Japanese ver is so good in the movie. I’m Japanese, and it’s first time for me to listen Eng ver. I was surprised how Eng ver Haku’s voice is low😅
Miyu Irino is the best voice for Haku. There's such gentleness, warmth, and nuance in that voice which is completely lacking in the dub.
I prefer eng in this one. Probably becuz I grew up with that voice 🥹

Irino Miyu is one of my all time favorite seiyuu...he’s amazing and voices some of my favorite anime characters, as well as Sora from Kingdom Hearts!
