I'm a huge Slipknot fan ever since the beginning, but Custer is one of their worst songs. They are trying too hard to be heavy and there is little substance. I would say react to Sic, Heretic Anthem, Unsainted, and Birth of the Cruel.

They change masks every album cycle, you should check out their song Unsainted from their newest album. It was released to introduce the new masks and it has some really cool visuals in it. Plus it has a great balance of heavy and melody.
Oh also, if you want other bands to check out, look at the Slipknot singers other band Stone Sour and their song Bother. It's night and day from Slipknot and shows his versatility as an artist.
I've attended nearly 200 Hard Rock & Metal shows since I was 17. My baptism into metal was surviving the pit, while standing at 5'6" and weighing in at only 165 lb. In my experience, we battle hardened MaGGoTs are the most humble, relatable and compassionate fan base when coming together for these experiences.
