When she said something about the triangle separating the thigh and stuff, I almost wheezed- I don’t think she realized which part it’s meant to represent. I’m a horse illustrator and I believe that she did an amazing job considering her inexperience with this sort of I guess difference from her drawing preferences (her characters, clothes, etc.) I’m proud! Keep it up 👍

"That little bump" on the leg is generally called the hock! I'm so impressed with how well you drew them, especially how quickly you understand the anatomy!

Here’s a few horse facts!
The little part of the mane on their forehead is called a forelock!
That bump where you were trying to name a bone I believe is called a hock.
That horse was so muscly because Clydesdales (that breed of horse) were bred to be workhorses, pulling carts and plowing fields.
Horses with blue eyes are called glass-eyes!
I could go on and on, but I’ll stop there. :)

Horses are my favorite animal! I’ve been in art block for a while and I think drawing horses will be a good warm up, thank you for motivating me to get better and helping me draw out of my comfort zone!

Fun fact, horses usually don’t look at things head on like humans a lot of other animals do (tigers, wolves, etc), this is a defense mechanism to see on coming predators, now those of us who have played Skyrim know that the horses there look at us head on,

as someone who has loved horses ever since i was a baby and is also an equine artist, this is video title definitely excited me! i've studied horses and their anatomy for around 10+ years so i understand it well, it's pretty amazing isn't it? this is totally my favorite video of yours so far, and i gotta say, for someone who is super new to horse anatomy, you did pretty well!! legs are definitely the hardest part when it comes to drawing horses, and even now i still will struggle sometimes, so this was so fun to watch. :)
as someone who mostly draws horses: the legs will always be the hard part, it’s just the thing 😂 you learn the anatomy and angles but you’ll still go to line a sketch and be like “what the hell is that?”

My favorite horse to draw are Clydesdales! They are just very bulky and round, while also being sharp in their stance. I love them!
I love when you do these kinds of studies. It makes me feel better that not all my sketches are pretty and reminds me that its about the process. I also love seeing how other artists use reference. Thanks for a great video!

Your videos always create inspiration. Something that I see other artists do to compensate for drawings ending up too big, is to add a little scrap paper to extend the page

I've been drawing horses a lot lately, both in psd and pen, I do agree that drawing in pen can help you understand that you can make mistakes but it takes a bit more of brainwork to fix or work off of that mistake. It also helps when you have mistakes that you take too hard or keep bottled up, it allows you to understand that you can let go of those mistakes
ive personally been working on horses too!!!! they used to come out resembling a canine, but watching your videos to see your process has made them look like equines. so thanks rin

Something I’ve been doing lately which is really fun is doing the rough sketch with the highlighter and then go over it with a pen, it’s cool to a thick highlighter sketch then add details with the pen.

I love using highliters and ballpoint pens! They are a great combo! Also the colourless blender with ballpoint pen! The way it smudges looks so good!!

I love your animal drawing videos. I mean, I like art and i like you so I show up to your videos anyway, but I myself draw a lot of animals and love seeing other artists do the same.

The calcaneus (hock) is on the hind legs. The “bump” on the front legs that you’re seeing is the horses carpus (knee) where the radius meets the metacarpal (cannon) bone
Also, it helps to find spacing if you draw little circles/blocks for each leg joint and the shoulder/hip/jaw/muzzle, then add in the more detailed “horse”

Me: WHAT MISTAKES!??! YOUR ART IS PERFECT!
They all look great! I used to draw horses, pegasai, kelpies, kirins and unicorns all the time. I haven't drawn any seriously in a few years, but watching you do these sketches kind of makes me want to do something similar haha. I love that style of sketch, especially for horses (and deer) for some reason, the really defining lines for their muscles and the angles. For some reason my most favorite one you did was the one of the horse running from behind lol. I just love the way you did the muscles on its hind legs and hind quarters. Also I miss using ball point pens for sketching, I should dig them out again!
These are gorgeous! I think the one thing that maybe takes the sketches away from horse and towards a bovine is the way you have an idea of a dog-like head + snout situation, rather that a continuous straight skull shape with eyes firmly on the sides of it, not looking over a snout.
And an anatomy tip! Usually with horses the length of the head, sloping shoulder and lower front leg are the same. That might help with the sizing issues you mention here
This is super interesting to follow! An adult illustrator with all the compositional and breaking down skills there is very different than children practising horses, which is what i did and what i've seen in horse art circles a lot.

I'm enjoying how ur branching out lately from just people. You had hamsters sketches, the koi video, then you were doing the sage and her cat. I'm proud of you and it's really cool to watch you grow and expand. I know recently you said you started to expand because u started to break down everything into shapes. Something else you could try is building a character based on a silhouette or looking at voids instead of solids. It can be fun to do.
