Ascendance of a bookworm (especially the light novel) uses nearly every moment at it's disposable to propel it's plot forward. No matter what else is happening on screen you will see small changes in the back round. It's why the side stories at the end of each volume are so compelling to read, so much happens that the MC is not paying attention to. Every decision no matter how small builds character, expands the world and themes of the story or well move the plot along and it's usually doing almost all of it at the same time . And it always busy foreshadowing future reveals, plot points and character motivations. It's literally peak writing
Speaking of Ascendance of a Bookworm, I recommend reading the Light Novels... I completely understand your frustration with the bad writing in other shows. That's the same reason I skip alot of them. Writing is too surface level to the point they forget vested interests, relative value of products and market impact of introducing new products. Drives a point back home. There’s been too much dog Isekai’s trying to follow the solid lead of world building, but just terribly failing at it. There’s a lack of actual creativity and they are collecting woman instead of support. AOB stood out because of its amazing world building and character development. I’m a paper back collector for AOB and I have to admit it’s great! Everyone should give it a try.
