I think it’s less about students coming from wealthy homes and more about CSUB being a small commuter school. Also, many of the kids who attend CSUB are first generation college students that need to make sure they graduate. They can’t risk being kicked out, because the next university is 2 hours away.. unlike Columbia that has other colleges walking distances from theirs. And I notice the culture of Bakersfield in general is very uninteresting in the outside the US, unless it concerns their family living abroad.

I am so glad that most of the colleges and universities in Pomona, Bakersfield, and surrounding areas, do not have protest activity like in NYC and other places. I pay out of State tuition for my kid to attend school in Pomona. I am not rich, every penny counts, and each penny is filled with blood and sweats. Only two more weeks, this semester will be over. I pray everyday for nothing to happen in her school. Whatever happens in those Ivy League schools, I can't afford to care.

As for the Civil Rights movement, that was begun in the late 50's, which had to do with Black Americans in the southern states. It had very little to do with immigrants at that time. The few times was those that were semi-militant, such as certain chapters of the Black Panthers. Then, there's the belief that immigration to this country was set by protest, which lets us know that you haven't done a proper research of this subject. Immigration to the US has been long open since its existence was started. These weren't exclusively well heeled, many were of lesser means and with barely the clothes on their backs. From Ellis Island to San Francisco, millions came to this country, not out of protest, but for a need to begin their own story. Regardless of race, creed, religion, or nationality, they wanted to be free, live free, work as they can and want, without the encumberance of others nor to be so. It was enshrined by two documents, the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution, which includes the Bill of Rights. If you had done your homework you would've figured this out, but since it's evident that you haven't, well I'm not surprised...
Nothing is really happening elsewhere either. The largest of these protest has about 200 people and many of them are not even students. The majority of the others do not even have 50 people protesting. This is a non-issue and the media is running with it for clicks.
Imo, I find just that one lady far more personable and persuasive that the mass protests. Large camps with screaming automatically is intimidating and thus naturally offputting to the undecided. Maybe I am just naive, but it seems like we forgot how to talk to each other and meet in the middle.

I don't remember which specific school, but 50 arrests were made the other day and only 2 were students. Granted, there were many protesters, but the police and school administrators gave the upfront warning, that in one more hour arrests would be made. Most of the students decided to disperse to fight another day.
Would be interesting to consider any analysis on the quality of hired professors at this university. Perhaps if you don’t hire professors who hate our country, or who have their own agenda to destroy our country, you probably don’t have the internal support on campus for this nonsense.

Used to visit Bakersfield for work. Great place and people. Very blue collar and working people. Doesn’t surprise me there are no protest. They are also very kind and compassionate. If the students at Bakersfield are like myself when I was in college and do not have the time or money to blow on noisy non-educational activities they will be better off in the long run. Face time, sounding off for the cameras and being involved in anarchy is no replacement for real education.

the story is that a quiet commuter school isn't engaging in a peaceful protest. Not really a ton of intrigue here... idk why they ran with this
The headline said they didn't understand why that protest was so quiet. So they went to find out...well because only 1 person is there. They are trying to get more people to help her protest. They just can't say that. This isn't a story they are trying to incite a protest and disturb the peace for everyone. They need the daily stories if they can develop some from this one

Interesting though that Bakersfield and the San Joaquin Valley attract many Sikhs, who pursue farming, truck driving and similar blue-collar occupations. They seem to coexist more or less with the Anglo and Hispanic communities there without any major drama, good for them.
All the protesting for another country's war. If they wanted to make a difference, they should pack up and go fight for their beliefs and opinions. College students protesting for an outcome of a war they are not willing to fight themselves. They are willing to sacrifice other people's lives and money for their "enlightened" opinions. Most universities are actually completely peaceful. There aren’t that many Universities with protests going on when you compare the number of universities without protests withe the ones with protests. It’s actually a small fraction of universities.
