    Shielfield is also home to Berwick Speedway which operate in the British speedway Championship. A very good and interesting walk ,a town i have visited for over 60 years.

      Thank you so much! I'm so glad you found the video an interesting watch - I didn't know that about the Speedway link with Shielfield Park, so thank you very much for pointing that out! It really is quite the multi-purpose venue behind the houses, a hidden gem indeed :)

      They are indeed! Colourful cottages aren't something you see too often, but up near the Scottish border there are a good number of them, another charm of this fascinating region :)
      Thank you so much for watching - I really hope you enjoyed the video!

      On the A1068 from Amble to Lesbury you can see Over on your right. Lovely multi coloured cottages on the Aln River at Alnmouth.
      Might be a Northumberland tradition?

    We live just over the Scottish border, but are in Berwick at least 3 times per week. My Eldest daughter lives in Tweedmouth. Thanks for posting.

      It's a beautiful part of the world, especially with that coastal scenery on the way up from Berwick towards Eyemouth and beyond :) That's a rather lovely drive if you get the chance to do it a good few times a week visiting Berwick and Tweedmouth!
      Thank you so much for watching - I'm so glad you enjoyed the video!

    That's awesome!. I was born and bred there, you look up the street I grew up on at 9:33. Me and all my family were christened in the church!. I even found out a lot about Tweedmouth I never knew.

    Good evening! Apologies for the slightly late upload of this walk - I do hope you enjoy it though! Thank you very much too to everybody for over 3,600 subscribers - it's so wonderful to see all of your support :)
    Now, for some bonus information on Tweedmouth, or more specifically Berwick Rangers, who play at Shielfield Park: In 1967, the Rangers beat Glasgow's Rangers 1-0 in the first round of that year's Scottish Cup. The most famous victory in the club's history, it's said that fans of the Borderers went running through Tweedmouth in celebration, overturning cars and causing havoc!
    Also, here's a link to the 2014 procession of the Salmon Queen's coronation, it looks like great fun: th-cam.com/video/TdwatgCP2qc/w-d-xo.html

    its been my goal to jump on a video soon as its been released.. and be the first!.. got there! my partner and me enjoyed the west yorkshire videos, she was brought up in Bradford and has fond memories of the area Skipton, Bingley, etc: more west country ones next time you get a holiday, like Bath, which I assume was a break foe you. hoping you will continue enjoying making these as much as we enjoy the 'virtual' day trips they afford!

    • @LetsWalkUK
      @LetsWalkUK  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much! I'm glad you managed to get to this video first - and I hope you enjoyed watching the walk around Tweedmouth! West Yorkshire has been my base for a long time, and I've still got many W. Yorks walks coming in the near future, though I do like to give a nice balance of regions as much as I can.
      As you say, things further south are a little more out of reach, but I do love visiting places like Bath, and I've even got some more walks from beyond England to come :)
      I'll certainly continue making these videos - I absolutely love visiting and learning about different places all around the country, and if there's anywhere specific you'd like to see, please do let me know, and I'll add it to my list of future destinations!
      Thank you so much for watching and for your very kind comments - I'm so glad you enjoy these videos, it really means a lot to hear :)

    Shame.

    Thank you for this video - with its detailed and colourful history. Though it shows Tweedmouth well, it may be overlooking an important part of it - the foodstores. There are few small towns as well-served. Within easy walking distance of most residents is an Asda, a Marks & Spencer Food Hall and, a little farther-out, a Tesco Superstore. Additionally there's an accessible Homebase, Poundland &c, etc. Supermarkets may be nearer the heart of such a community than its history

    Another splendid video . I did the last stretch of your walk myself a few years back. I was hoping to watch Berwick Rangers play but was hugely disappointed when I reached the ground only to be told the match had been postponed.There were slight traces of snow on the pitch. On my way back to town there were numerous kick abouts going on involving local children . Fortunately, Scotland's rugby match ( played in Edinburgh ) was being screened in a local pub . Draw your own conclusions .

    • @LetsWalkUK
      @LetsWalkUK  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh no! That's such a shame to hear - I wonder why they shut the match down then... Still, I'm glad you had a chance to watch the rugby in the pub - I can imagine that was a little toastier if anything else on that day :)
      Thank you so much for watching - I'm so glad you enjoyed the video, it means a lot to hear!

    I was born here, although I live at the other end of the country now, and it brought back some very happy memories. I've just one query. On the way to Shielfield Park, you say you are walking on Etal Road. When I lived there, it was called Shielfield Terrace. Etal Road started further up Shielfield Terrace on the right, above the football ground. Lovely video and interesting historic facts though.

    • @LetsWalkUK
      @LetsWalkUK  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting to know! It seems that the road names must have changed over time, though there's a bus stop at the bottom of Etal Road called 'Shielfield Terrace' according to the map :)
      Thank you so much for watching - I'm so glad you enjoyed the video and that it brought back some nice memories of Tweedmouth!

    • @dannyjspring
      @dannyjspring ปีที่แล้ว

      It's still called Shielfield Terrace right up until you get to the corner of Cornhill Road, It's after that it becomes Etal Road. In it's entirety its the B6435.

    • @LetsWalkUK

      A good question! And one that has an equally complex answer as the line between Tweedmouth and Berwick. All three of Berwick, Tweedmouth and Spittal fall under the jurisdiction of Berwick Town Council, and as such you could say they all operate as one and the same town. However, Spittal, historically in England like Tweedmouth and with its stunning beach and promenade, very much has its own charm and heritage, so you could count it as a separate place from some perspectives :)
      Thank you so much for watching - I really hope you enjoyed the video!
